As a Texan, the pep talk for Texas A&M is appreciated. Also, as a Texan, Texas A&M has a singular focus of beating Texas and any other loss is irrelevant, so long as that one objective is met. The decade since joining the SEC has been good for Texas A&M because the Aggies haven't had to put their focus on only beating Texas to have a relevant brand. Inside the culture of each Aggie team, I'm sure the focus will continue to be to go out and fight and win against all opponents whether they are named Texas or not; the problem will come in when the boosters and power brokers running their NIL funding get involved and start pushing hard for Texas to again become the sole focus.

The Texas fans' bluster is the same old refrain. 9 years out--our recruiting is better, our facilities are better, and our coaching is better than theirs. A&M isn't going to miss a beat, simply because bovine excrement has returned to our door. The whole theory coming out of Austin is that A&M's elite recruiting these days is only because "SEC". A&M started recruiting at an elite level when Jimbo Fisher arrived, not when they went to the SEC. A&M is also the oldest and largest public university in Texas. Road trips to LSU, Ole Miss, Georgia, and Tennessee? Or ISU, Baylor, OSU and Kansas? Another no-brainer. And talk about huge rivalry games, we are bringing some great ones to the conference right off the bat, OU-UT, and renewing A&M-UT, Arkansas-UT and OU-Mizzou. Look at basketball and baseball competition this creates. This is gonna be great. Hook Em and thrilled to be joining the best league in college sports.

JP - You nailed it. There's not a recruit at A&M that didn't choose them over either OU or tu. That isn't going to change. I do have a serious question though - If the university knew about this and you're the AD or Coach Fisher are you not bent? Specifically that you got "blindsided" at Media Days, on the podium? I may just be being a fan here but both looked caught off guard when asked. Additionally blowhard fans on every side can say what they want, the dudes on the field aren't worried about any opponent. If Texas or Oklahoma think Aggies, Razorbacks, Tigers (of any color), etc etc that actually wear the uniform are worried.... well they should go back to their extra medium t shirts and skinny jeans in their office and put the pipe down. Few if any recruits in the SEC didn't have offers and make visits to those two schools before choosing wherever they landed.

The problem with your argument, which is a mostly good argument, is the recruits mostly didn't choose OK and UT because they weren't getting SEC coverage. Alabama is going to out recruit everyone. But A&M and the rest in the conference probably arent going to out recruit OU in TX at all with OU now getting SEC coverage and having an arguably better program (with our history A&m will have to beat us a few times to prove me wrong, lsu might out recruit us but I doubt it with geography being in our favor) and if TX can get their shit together which should have happened by now they'll steal back recruits too. So cut A&M improvement since entering SEC by maybe half. That sucks for them. Good for us so can't say I care but I get why they'd be upset. We can all agree on 1 thing though TX would be a hell of a lot less annoying if they had any recent wins to back up their arrogance.

@@saraho8540 thank you for a well written and cordial response. How is OU in a better place geographically than Arkansas, LSU, A&M, and tu for Texas recruits? Y'all are going to need a new sales pitch. Jimbo was recruiting Texas while at FSU. I think a lot of the OU and tu fans still think it's the 00's. No more Mack Brown and Bob Stoops. OU seems to have a great staff, tu is unproven at best. My opinion is that you guys, both schools, are about to find out.... A&M walked in with a generational QB in Manziel, Mike Evans who was unheard of, and a NFL o line. It took one year for Sumlin to get figured out. I understand your program is storied, but like both Saban and Fisher say every year... "What team? That was last year. This team is a new team every year."
@saraho85403 жыл бұрын
@@samstone7302we are very close to TX so we've always recruited from there crazy well. Texas schools are the best geographically because the parents can make it to home games really quickly and cheaply but because we actually win and go to play offs we recruit the best there currently. (Except Alabama because they have so many championships they probably don't even need to do pay for play to get the best anywhere). The best argument for ou will recruit 2nd best though is we currently are recruiting that well and we just uped our status by saying you'll be seen at sec instead of big 12 and sec gets the best media coverage. You could easily argue well that means A & M or maybe LSU should get the best recruits and might prove right long term depending really on how well ou does against them and other schools in the sec, but a&m has already been using that pull so they'll likely lose a few recruits to ou the 1st 3 yrs. And if ou and TX do well then A&M will really be the team that suffers the most from that.

And if you disagree with that, then consider this: Nick Saban and Alabama have been in the conference for a long time and for the past 20 years, they have been a yearly contender and quite often a national champion and they still get the same money as everyone else. They do not have outsized power as clearly proven by how many times the SEC as a whole has pissed off Nick Saban. They do what's good for the conference, not just 1 or 2 teams. The reality is that Texas' presence in the SEC is going to affect A&M's ability to recruit at the same level within the state, because they've lost the lure of being the only school from Texas in the conference. All things being equal, young athletes are going to prefer living in Austin over College Station if they have the same opportunity to play in the best conference. Yes, having Jimbo Fisher as coach will help keep recruiting levels good, but there's no doubt they will take a hit and there's nothing they can do about it unless they can magically relocate their school to a place that people actually want to live. At the same time, it could be good from a competition standpoint if division realignment moves Alabama to the eastern division and A&M doesn't have to play them every year, giving them a better chance to make the SEC Championship game and the CFP. Plus we get the rivalry game back, so there's some good and some bad here, I think.
