And the SEC West will have 4 elite programs (Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, and LSU). Auburn being the weakest of the "Elite" in the East and Texas being the weakest of the "elite" in the West. Alabama being the strongest team in the East; Oklahoma the strongest in the West. Josh hit the nail on the head here. I mean I'm not gonna sit here and say the thought of A&M and Texas playing again DIDN'T excite me at first, but this is way bigger than any individual matchups like that. College football is stripping away the best part of the game (the diversity of fanbases and the chance for big upsets) because of the desire to make as much money as possible off of an already profitable sport. If only this wasn't already pretty much a done deal.

Keep in mind three major developments has/is changing college football. This is a horizon forward decision. NIL, transfer portal.....and 12 team playoff is turning the sport into a semi-pro league. They’ve beaten Alabama & Florida both in seasons when they were awarded a mythical FBS football national championship !!! I’ve watched Oklahoma get down pretty big in some Big 12 conference games throughout the years, just from Oklahoma to come back in the 2nd half of those games to win them. If you do something like that in most SEC games, well than it’s about a 99% chance that you’re gonna lose that game, regardless of who you are or who you’re playing against !!! Oklahoma will be competitive in the SEC, but they won’t be reeling off 5 & 6 straight conference championships in a row in the SEC like what they’ve been able to do in the Big 12 !!!! I don’t know how many conference championships Oklahoma has won since the 2000 season without looking it up, but I know it’s been a lot of them. Yet look at how competitive the SEC has been over that same time period !!! Number of SEC conference championships in football since the 2000 season. #1. Alabama - 7 2009, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018 & 2020. #2. LSU - 5 2001, 2003, 2007, 2011 & 2019. #3. Auburn - 3 2004, 2010 & 2013. #3. Florida - 3 2000, 2006 & 2008. #3. Georgia - 3 2002, 2005 & 2017. Five different teams thats won 3 or more conference championships since the 2000 season !!! Tennessee, South Carolina & Missouri have all played in the SEC conference championship game during that same time period as well !!! Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Ole Miss & Texas A&M are the only SEC member schools that have never played in the SEC conference championship game. Both Arkansas & Mississippi St. played in the SEC conference championship game during the 1990’s. LSU’s upset win over #2 ranked Tennessee in the 2001 SEC conference championship game knocked Tennessee out of the 2001 BCS mythical FBS football national championship game against #1 ranked Miami. In the 2014 season a late game 4th & 26 conversion by Arkansas against Ole Miss, lead to a late game score and win for Arkansas over Ole Miss. That Ole Miss loss to Arkansas knocked Ole Miss out of the 2014 SEC championship game, while allowing for an Alabama team that Ole Miss had beaten during the regular season to play in the SEC championship game over them !!! There hasn’t been that much diversity within any other conference over that same time period !!!

As an LSU fan I actually think UT would and can compete right away just fine...maybe not make or win the conference right away BUT if they join just look at how quickly A&M was able to recruit and improve stadium and facilities as well as hire Jimbo after joining SEC, now throw in Texas and it's $ and with Sark already recruiting great now he would only get a boost there in joining sec and Texas is loaded with top tier talent this year and for years to come as they always are and have been, just more abundantly so this year and following...OU has talent and would also make adjustments necessary to get further up to par and speed with the conference and be just fine competing for division titles or sec championships every 3 to 4 years I'd say for sure...meaning they get a veteran squad together and loaded with juniors and seniors playing both sides of ball along with an elite level QB like they always have and produce along with using transfer portal available now they'd be in it and as competitive as my Tigers and at least Auburn and A&M is in the west specifically. ...I dont mention Alabama as Bama is it's own elite tier of level of accomplishments etc in not only sec but all of college football during any era the game's been played lol

@@Phantomplasma430 I agree on UT being at or barely above a 500 team right now in sec as it stands, but if Sarkisian runs a tight ship and keeps up recruiting as he currently is doing, which only would get a boost by joining sec, then with their location, money pool, facilities, education etc would be completely capable and should by all means likely to bring in talent and staff needed to make them a true upper tier sec program within 3 to 5 years time...I'd say even quicker as the elite talent in Texas alone this year and next is outrageous and abundant as many top 100 players are from Texas, and if in sec I believe they get more of them than A&M if not immediately then soon, and with transfer portal changes and availability now too I think they could be ready to truly compete in sec within a short period of time...not saying win division or league that fast but be in the running for and a team to count on competing for those accolades after several years if what I stated occurs for them. And OU I believe could compete fine and bring in more recruits to get them over hump they've been at and unable to get past in previous seasons as they'd be able to recruit some players and actually obtain in positions of need they haven't been able to routinely fill after joining sec and having a bigger pool of talent available and interested that want to play in the best league in college football and may have otherwise passed on OU's program in big 12....just my worthless 2 cents and opinion though

Understand this, none of the SEC teams or any other conference for that matter really WANT to play OU week in & week out with only 3-4 days preparation.... inspite of what fans say, that's a coaching reality. It's fine if you're given +4 weeks to prepare.... you gotta chance. Those chances are greatly reduced if you're having to face THAT offense with only 3 days prep. Nobody is afraid of Texas right now. That's just silly and more than a little bit delusional. A&M was one spot away from the playoffs last year while Texas was firing their coach. Texas is averaging 5 losses per year every year since 2009. Oklahoma State is only averaging 3 losses per season during that time...maybe we SEC folks should be looking at them instead?

This super conference thing is exciting and scary. It adds competition on hand but it also wrecks some conferences at the same time. Personally, I think the SEC is competitive as is, especially the West. I can see a ton of collateral damage if this move were to go through.
@ReadR00ster13 жыл бұрын
I don't think anyone in the schools involved would not love the idea because it's consolidating their agency because it will be hard to stop seasons.
@frostisbestinworld3 жыл бұрын
As a Texas fan I like the move because of recruiting. It seems like we’ve never been able to pull the big lineman or 5 ⭐️ guys outside of wide receiver and db because they want to go to the SEC or OSU/Clemson. This should benefit OU in the same way which will be scary because those big linebackers who refuse to be in any other conference could do some damage teamed with Riley’s offensive mind.

The only thing I disagree with is the blaming of NIL/transfer portal. Amateurism didn’t die because the players got paid. It died when the coaches got paid. No amateur sport needs 8 figure salary coaches on their payroll. Of course players would demand their fair share after that.

There's been rumors, not sure how true they are, that certain SEC programs( Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, and South Carolina)have an alliance to keep out other major programs from their states(FSU & Miami, GT, Louisville, and Clemson). If this is true, I could see A&M trying to get in on this agreement. What I'm more concerned about is, if this happens, what happens to lesser programs in the SEC? Do underachievers get shown the door? For anyone thinking there is not a precedent for that, Temple was removed from the old Big East for not being competitive. Could that happen to Vanderbilt, South Carolina, Kentucky, or anyone else who struggles to maintain top-tier programs?
@thefuzzman3 жыл бұрын
Actually, there's a "gentleman's agreement" that a university has the ability to block another school from the same state joining. It was made with former SEC commissioner Slive. So, in theory, A&M could stop Texas from joining. But, like I said, that agreement was with a former commissioner, so, who knows now?
@JJWestmoreland843 жыл бұрын
@@thefuzzman I had heard that, but I didn't think there was really a way to verify that. Seems like that could lead to some legal issues if it were proven.

@@JJWestmoreland84 I guess that "agreement" wasn't worth the promise that was made. And A&M actually approved their addition.

Just for fun. Big Ten and ACC merger. Geographically, it kinda makes sense. The rivalries would be awesome for both football AND basketball. Notre Dame might FINALLY be forced into joining a conference. It would be a money making juggernaut that the SEC would have trouble keeping up with. That’s the super conference that I want to see. But for now, it’s just fun to theorize.
