Something I find absolutely infuriating about this game is how trade ships are handled as a collective group, so if the leader of the market is in a war and has ships sunk during raids, even if you're not involved in the war your trade will tank. Combine this with wars sometime going on for ages, and you can have your economy collapse even though your ships shouldn't be affected by the war.
@brutusthebear90502 жыл бұрын
Damn, really makes you want to end that war, right? Why should your economy crash and citizens die because, I dunno, the Archduke of Austia was assassinated. (In case it wasn't clear, your complaint is exactly why the US joined World War 1. It's good that this is in Vicky 3)
@Gustav_Kuriga2 жыл бұрын
@@brutusthebear9050 That would make sense... if I was actually trading with the nations in question. But A) in your example you could say the US was the "leader" of the market in Victoria 3, and B) in my example, I am a smaller country with literally no connection to the warring countries (not trading with any of them besides Qing, and that war is with Prussia who has no territories close to Qing and a far smaller fleet). Prussia shouldn't even be able to project its fleet as far as it does in game to the point where it is sinking the entirety of the Qing merchant marine (not even mine). Furthermore, as the game works currently, I can't intervene in the middle of a war as it is, I have to enter in the diplomatic play stage if I'm even eligible, which is a very opaque process. So even if what you were saying were true, I would not be able to act in a way that represents the situation in reality that you described. By the way, that is only the stated reason for joining the war. In actuality it was an excuse when for much of the war we were trading with both sides. A combination of propaganda, the Zimmerman telegram, and Woodrow Wilson's political maneuvering lead to the US joining on the British side.
@aidenaune7008 Жыл бұрын
because they are using their ships to buy and sell goods too. if they lose ships, you lose trade, even with other nations in the market who will more than happily buy all your exports, most of it still goes through the main nation's ports before going to the secondary nations, and is still carried by the main nation's boats.

Just watched your Texas play-through. I agree, it is hard. In my play-through, I was able to stay independent through the full century. I did this by playing France against the USA to get the later to back down from their Diplo Play against me. I also Found a custom union with France to be much more stable than yours with USA was. At least until I became more of a threat to them as another Great Power, but by then I was strong enough(and properly prepared) to run my own Market. I was able to beat Mexico time and again by amphibious assault into Veracruz and capturing Mex. Capital as well as most of its Southern States. I just did a good Indian Territories run, all I did is to go for professional army, become a US state, boom your eco, get shrapnel arty and 40 divisions, and go to war with the Americans while getting a protective EU power (usually the UK or France) to defend you. I actually 1v1'd the US for independence, but I got lucky with an incredible general. I took Texas and a treaty port in Louisiana, and actually got them to agree to a customs union with me while I conquered all of Mexico later The other way is to refuse statehood, go for professional army, get good relations with EU powers to defend yourself, and conquer mexico (about 20 divisions will do it) and basically become them later.

@@oppionatedindividual8256 belive me, it's very hard. Like Texas, you haveno population and no GDP. You migth have better numbers then quite a few countries, but your situation makes any expansion almost impossible. Getting Colonial Laws early on (You don't have them at the start) migth mean you get 1 more state at maximum, you will still not be able to advance anywhere else, since you are a puppet of the USA. You usually also cannot rebel against the USA since you don't have the population to figth them, even if a major power backs you, they will still just take your territory and slowly win. The most reliable way to actually do this is by getting Mexico into your independence War, pray that you somehow get your independence, then take Texas (if they were eaten along the way, you just have to restart) and lastly expand into Mexico. The Nation is not the worst start, but it is quite a lot worse than almost all starts. It beats the 3 Nations in the Yemen Region since if you build a single Battalion you can take over the other 2 and then figth other easy Neighbors. It beats African Nations for the smae reason. Even the smallest German minor can if they manouver properly get support of one great Power that helps them Win, so it is very much among the hardest starts. Edit: You cannot get a Colonial Law in the beginning since you don't have Colonization invented, so it's even harder.

The party swap isn't that black and white. Democrats and Republicans have definetly changed but you have to ask when? Did the party swap happen before FDR? FDR kept the military seperated and was most certainly not someone who fought for civil rights while also turning the US into a large welfare state. It's easy for democrats to say "the parties swapped" to seperate themselves from the party's history of extreme racism and try to deflect that to the Republicans. In the end it's not so much historical fact but more so political manuvering.
@caesar-dynastysports2 жыл бұрын
@@motto1834 It's not a fake story at all. It was literally Richard Nixon's strategy to get elected. Many states, ruby red states, in the South still have more registered Democrats than they do Republicans but voting trends would you lead you to believe the opposite. You can see the change in the GOP's platform beginning in 1948. The Republican Party began to espouse support for states' rights, for example. That's a sharp departure from the Party of Lincoln. In many Southern states, ruby red Southern states, there are still more registered Democrats than registered Republicans. Cast your eyes back to last week and tell me if that makes sense to you as all of these states elect Republican supermajorities. Texas has had complete Republican leadership for 27 years and majority leadership for 40. What do you think happened? All those Democrats decided to stop voting for their party of choice because they didn't want to be liberal anymore? Or the more likely explanation of the Democrats who had been in power changed their political affiliation to Republican and conservative Southern Democrats aren't Democrats anymore? Alabama Governor Kay Ivey was a Democrat until 2002. Ivey has never been a liberal. In 1957 and 1965, it was Southern Democrats blocking Civil Rights legislation. In 2022, the Texas Republican Party included repealing Civil Rights legislation as part of their platform. Southern Democrats were against Brown. Who is the party of school choice (code for segregation) in 2022? Hmmmm.... Parties change platforms all the time anyway. Republican messiah Ronald Reagan is the reason that California has the gun laws it does (the 1967 Mulford Act if you want sources). Unless your stance is the parties didn't switch, just all the people in them. Basically, Democrats up until FDR were conservatives and Republicans were liberals. Now, Democrats are "liberals" and Republicans are conservatives. Claiming anything else is just false. But, sure. It's a fake story. As people always say, go to a Klan rally and tell them that they're Democrats in 2022 and see how accepting of that they are.

@@motto1834 I don’t think there was a switch between parties either, but the Democratic Party absolutely did a 180 on the policies they promote, it took a while but they used to be the baddies, and still are according to who you’re talking to

@@motto1834 You can look at an image of the 1860 Presidential Election and see the North voting overwhelmingly Republican and the South voting Democrat. Seems like there absolutely was a switch over time to me.

About the whole reloading for debug mode - I think it's stupid and I don't like how it's a thing in the new PDX titles, I don't get why it's not an easily accessible just hotkey like it is in, for example, eu4 and then the other stuff that is beyond just console is not toggleable with having console. Personally I originally learnt EU4 and Enjoyed the game when I was crap at it by using console. so, yk. It's a tool that normal players will use and I can't see why they've changed it to make it more annoying to get to. Plus if you don't care about playing ironman you can use it to make more interesting scenarios with changing alliances etc. etc.

Because I don’t think it’s a feature meant for the player, it’s meant for bug testers and developers to change things in-game, it’s like the old dev rooms in fallout with all the op gear

@@burtreynolds8030 I think it is because it's a feature many players use and many websites are created to explain functioning within the console for players themselves. They just decided to take away that feature based on what exactly?
@combrade-t2 жыл бұрын
@@burtreynolds8030 Okay and? just because that's the intended audience doesn't mean that's going to be all who use it. And they actively put in more code such that you will have this stuff on only if you launch the game with the debug code, rather than just e.g. EU4 where it just won't work if you have ironman mode on. There was no reason to change it as such, because people can enjoy playing with a feature even if it's something not necessarily intended to be played with normally - and it doesn't make sense to put needless roadblocks in the way of that. besides, if it is for bug testers - finding the bugs is going to be due to playing the game and interacting with all its systems for a lot of time, in which there's no reason to subject to the ugly debug info at all times instead making it easy to toggle on/off to check if something odd is going on.

As a Texan it pains me to say this but the developers put _virtually no thought_ into _Texas_ in this game. They couldn't even be assed to do the borders properly nor did they research how to Texan war for independence happened in real life. They also were too stupid, ignorant, or uncaring to understand how Texas became a state (in real life history, Texas was not simply permitted to join the US because of its slaves and the balance of slave and free states that the US had during the actual historical period of time was strived to be kept even). I'm glad you had fun doing this Laith because in my own playthroughs I became so disgusted with the absolutely anti-historical and frankly malicious treatment of my birthplace that I stopped playing it and moved on to other countries.

Paradox knew the sentiments about the war... months before release. Sort of like how those behind the Sonic movie knew the sentiments about *that thing* months before release. The difference? The Sonic movie was fixed.

You can’t just reverse course on the entire war system without delaying the game by almost a year. People would’ve complained about that too.

Did you miss the recent dev diaries talking about all the changes coming to war, big patch 1.1 is like 50% just war, it’s a little harder to fix an entire game mechanic than to shrink the eyes of a cgi character
