Another reminder that police need the publics help to do their job effectively, which is a lesson for police officers to care about the public trust they create or destroy with their actions. We Own This city on HBO was based on the true story of a corrupt police squad who were stealing drugs and guns from evidence or people during traffic stops, and selling them back on the street. They also were known by the public for lying and abusing, to the extent that no jury in that area trusted the word of the police, based on their experiences

The governments of several foreign countries where most of the scammers are based, need to go after the criminals. Our politicians need to put more pressure on those countries for that to happen, because the authorities in those countries don't seem to care. One way we can convince our politicians to do something about this, is by putting pressure on US-based **companies** who outsource their technical support and other telephone customer service jobs to the same foreign countries. That outsourcing is part of why it is easier for people with certain accents to sound like they are legitimate representatives of certain companies. But until those countries do something about the scammers, our corporations shouldn't be hiring legitimate call centers there either. That's the only way it's going to stop -- when the people living in those countries feel the financial strain of not having American dollars paying their call centers, then they can put pressure on their own law-enforcement agencies and politicians to do something about it. The most the authorities can do here in the United States is go after the local "mules" and drop shipment mailing companies who facilitate sending the victim's cash overseas. That is absolutely something they should do a better job with. But as long as people can do banking online, and on their phones, there's not much authorities can do to stop the electronic transfers of money overseas. And unless somebody notices someone buying gift cards like in the story, that can't be stopped either.

The banks do. My friend 71 yrs old, an educated woman, fell for the exact scam and lost $23,500. She called me four hours after it happened. My questions did the caller have an accent? Yes. Did the bank teller caution you? Yes. Did any red flags go off driving $23,500 in cash from a bank to a gas station? It seemed so real. She said got a call her bank account was compromised. The bank needed her to remove the money and deposit it into a bitcoin machine. She talked to two Indian males who convinced her the tellers were in on her account be compromised. (I asked her if the tellers questioned her). She said they asked her if anyone asked her to remove the money, but she was told to say no because the teller was in on it. The teller asked her what the money was for and she was told to say she was buying a used car, so she did. The teller tried to warn her of scams, but she she thought the teller was in on it. Got her money, drove to a gas station and deposited $23,500. Then the callers told her all her accounts were compromised and told her she needed to remove all her money. This time go to another branch. She did, she went to another branch and the teller could see the previous transaction. Same routine questions and same answers, the teller had to convince her she was being scammed. The police were notified. I would think they would seize the machine and force the parties involved to prove ownership of the cash but that is not how it works. The police would NOT take a report and referred her to the FBI. The FBI said fill out a document online and we will get back to you. It’s been a year and she has never heard back from the FBI.

I worked at Walgreens in 2019 when an old woman asked to buy apple gift cards. Out of curiosity I asked her why and she said it’s to fix her windows laptop. I realized she was being scammed and begged her to not do it. I even got my manager involved and we just pleaded with her to not buy the cards. She got upset saying we didn’t know what we were talking about. She said she would purchase them somewhere else. We even followed her out the store asking her not to do it. All the customers were saying we were heroes but I still felt bad.

The scammers had control of her desktop computer with Anydesk. They had her on the phone too, maybe a landline phone and the scammers who have a hooked fish are relentless, the most expert scammers take over from the entry level scammers and they don’t stop until the mark is wiped out. 1. Her bank 2. Her family 3. The police. All good to contact. Scammer Payback on KZbin has finally gotten the police in the USA and India to step up but it took years. Jim browning too. He finds their exact building location and identifies each scammer and the boss. He published their Facebook family pages with luxury trips and cars. Local Indians hate them too. When scammers neighbors, parents, in-laws, religious community, law enforcement, sees what they are doing, they come down hard. Romance scammers might be an even bigger business. Both are huge and we aren’t doing much to stop it effectively.

I ask how they got my number and then scream take my number out of your system...they hang up fast then because they KNOW that they are supposed to stop calling when you say that so they try to "not hear" you say that. Our government needs to have a little chat with the country where these scammers originate from. They are not hard to find, even with the pitiful attempt to show a local number when they call you.

Thousands of episodes describing the typical American flashy, “wealthy” private jet-flying common thieves. Google “American Greed”. Americans are literally stealing each others homes from squatting to stealing property titles. Remove the logs out of your own very eyes. You’ll do and say anything to avert attention from your culture of embezzlement, fraud, corruption, bribery…I mean “lobbying”.😅

They tried their damnest to contact the woman to stop her, to contact the business she was at (they did manage to get an employee to try and disuade her but she wasn't having any of it.) and even was in contact with the local area's dispatch, but they said it was a her issue and nobody was ever dispatched out to stop her sending the scammers money.
