Since making this video I've built a new mid pipe assembly from scratch using a Bassani X pipe and high flow cats. You can see here... kzbin.info/www/bejne/ppWxln6mo8h2lac Some changes were needed after the heads and cam swap to clean up the sound.

I mentioned before but not in the video, if you disconnect your steering shaft on a C5 make sure you tie down your steering wheel so that it cannot rotate. Rotating it while disconnected can cause damage and confusion to the steering wheel position sensor. I've not had any problems with this the couple of times I've disconnected it.

@@PNW_Car_Mods Yes, I was gonna ask you how you were monetizing these. I'm glad to hear KZbin haven't caught you yet. So, it's sort of a weird question, but do you think the C6 1 7/8 Texas Speed headers and X-pipe can fit on the C5? Other 1 7/8 options are quite heavy on the old wallet. I've been looking everywhere on the forums and such, but haven't found anyone who tried to fit any aftermarket C6 exhaust. Just got done watching this video, too. That was a fast reply! Keep doing what you're doing!

Also forgot to add during the video, it's come to my awareness that you have to be very careful with the magnasteer system and the steering wheel sensor. So when the steering shaft is disconnected don't let he steering wheel spin around. Tie the wheel down with a strap or a bungee before the shaft is removed from the rack.

Great video. I think its funny that the TSP headers both need to go in from the top and the Speed engineering headers both go in from the bottom. Must have been built at different ends of China from each other,lol. I will say I have no steering shaft issues with the SE headers though and didn't have to take it loose to get them in either. And they were the larger 1 7/8". Also didnt need o2 extensions BUT both of these issues may had been due to harness or mechanical differences between our cars since yours is an earlier C5 and mine is a later C5. Anyway, I'm still waiting to hear this thing with the new heads and cam so hurry it up brother!!! LOL

I have a 2002 C5 and I installed a set of long tubes on it. The total cost for the all new exhaust was $3,000.00 I sent them off to "Jet Hot" and had them ceramic coated inside and out, and now I have o2 sensors setting off the engine lite. So now I have to spend another $500.00 to get it tuned. And the headers cause it to run VERY RICH! They also make it VERY hard to start. I have to turn the key to the on position and then wait for the pump to stop ticking.Then back off and then it will start. If I knew this would be so costly and such a PITA I NEVER WOULD HAVE INSTALLED THEM! The long tubes force you to relocate the Upstream o2 senses further down stream so the computer gets an inaccurate reading because the sensors do NOT get hot enough. And YES I am running 4 Cats. I have not driven the car in a year. I also want to instal a nice lumpy cam but if I do I will have to spend another $400.00 on a second tune. So I figured I would wait until I installed the cam to only spend the $500.00. I need to find whatever the biggest cam I can run without having to replace the torque converter. I do have the "G90" rear gear option.

Definitely something wrong with your installation Rick. I can't over the internet say what that may be though. I've never had any problems with headers on my LS powered cars. Even untuned. Yeah you would get a check engine light but they always ran fine and started up without problems. Hope you get it sorted out without spending a fortune.
@ricksteelcustoms3196
@ricksteelcustoms3196 3 жыл бұрын
@@PNW_Car_Mods Yes my 2002 Corvette runs AWESOME. It always has, even after the headers. The problem is the check engine light is on, it will not start on the first try, and it is running very rich because the up stream O2 sensors are about 2 feet further down from where they were placed by the GM engineers. I know that the problem is that the O2 sensors are NOT getting hot enough even though they have built in heaters, they still rely on EGTs to get them even hotter, about 650 degrees. I checked them and they are about 475 degrees. So the computer is reading the cold O2 sensors as a lean condition and compensating for a lean fuel mixture by adding more fuel even though there is nothing wrong with the mixture. So I will get the tuner to check it and I am guessing they will be able to delete the O2 sensors from the computer or somehow program the ECU to simply compensate for the colder O2s and adjust the fuel mixture ratios back to factor specs. And I am not 100% certain the starting issue is because of the headers. Although it started doing this right after the installation was completed. I have already replaced the ignition switch on this car twice. They can do some VERY WONKEY things to the way theses cars run, drive and start. They have several what looks like old style ignition points that get carbon build up just like points. The first time the ignition switch gave me issues it to over a dozen tries to get it started. Sometimes it would start but would NOT go over 2 MPH even with my gas peddle on the floor. I took out the switch took it apart and cleaned it put it back in and it started and ran perfect for about 6 months. And then it once again failed me about 3 years ago. So I replaced it with a new one. But It could be bad again now even though I only drove the car about 2000 miles it only has 79 thousand miles on it. I have 16 cars. And I know the exhaust was installed correctly because I installed it my self. You should check out my channel. Thanks again.

What year is this c5. Does header need to be dented on a 04 c5? This is a deal breaker for me considering all the other brands .
@PNW_Car_Mods
@PNW_Car_Mods 5 жыл бұрын
This is a 1997 which is in terms of the chassis and steering the same. It's a crap shoot with these headers a few have clearance and many don't. If I were going to try another cheaper brand of power the newest generation of XS Power headers is getting rave reviews.

I know this is a pretty old video, but why I don't see anyone wrapping the exhaust, it would make a huge difference
@PNW_Car_Mods
@PNW_Car_Mods 4 ай бұрын
Good question actually. The main reason I don't use it is because it is nasty to work with. It is also very hard on the headers themselves and it will shorten the life of the headers. It may work fantastic on a race car but not ideal on a street car. If was really worried about it I do a good quality header coating like Jet Hot over header wrap. Also these headers are no longer on the car. They were going to get destroyed if I left them on the car.

thanks for the video. Did you have OEM cats in before you added the headers? I'm keeping my OEM cats because I have emissions . Would the TSP headers end up right at the forward end of the cats?
@PNW_Car_Mods
@PNW_Car_Mods 5 жыл бұрын
I'm not going to flat out say it's impossible but I think it's nearly impossible. These headers are full length long longtubes. A lot of C5 headers while called long tubes are really a mid length header. Not these. The collectors are fully in the tunnel where the factory cats would be. Do you actually have to pass a sniffer to pass emissions? We have pretty strict emissions here and even here we don't have to do a sniffer test on an OBDII car. Just a computer test.
@gordonfranklin3232
@gordonfranklin3232 5 жыл бұрын
these headers go further back than any others I have seen. I want to be sure the ones I choose aren't that long. The emissions here are just computer based, and I presently have pre cats on my 2001 that I will be deleting. How did you know where to dent your headers?
@PNW_Car_Mods
@PNW_Car_Mods 5 жыл бұрын
@@gordonfranklin3232 If it's just computer based emissions you could do what I did and just put some small high flow cats in the mid pipe. They will fit. I have a video of building the mid pipe with the flowmaster ceramic cats welded into place and slipped on the the texas speed header collectors. I knew where to dent the pipe because I had already installed the headers once before and there was a pronounced rub mark on the pipe.

@@AsinineAlec I just can't really fit any kind of full size lift in my standard two car garage so these are a perfect compromise and really easy to use. As you use them on each car you have you get familiar with where to locate everything and it gets faster and faster to get up in the air.

Have you scraped the lt headers at all? Riding stock height?
@PNW_Car_Mods
@PNW_Car_Mods 4 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure because my car has never been at what is considered stock ride height. My right hand header scraped on everything. I actually ended up selling these headers middle of last year and I didn't like tearing them up. They're a great header otherwise.

Was it necessary to dent the tube to fit the steering shaft? That doesn't seem right. Has anyone else had to do THIS!?
@PNW_Car_Mods
@PNW_Car_Mods 5 жыл бұрын
According to several other members on Corvette Forums yes they've had to dent as well. I certainly wasn't the first. Honestly, the right side header dragging on the ground way before the left hand header does bother me far worse than a dent for the steering shaft in the left side primary tube.

I have an early C5 97. According to Texas Speed it needs the late model dipstick. I've heard with enough bending that you can make the original work but at the time of my installation the new style one was cheap and easier to install.
