TEXRAIL: FLIRTs at Dallas-Fort Worth

Imagine landing in Dallas, in the All-American state of Texas, walking to the train station, and seeing a sleek, European FLIRT pull in: that's what riding TEXRAIL is like! The Stadler FLIRT, perhaps one of the most popular trains to be operated throughout Europe, is slowly making a name in North America as well. TEXRAIL'S FLIRTs are diesel-operated. At DFW airport, you have two rail options: you can go to Dallas with DART light rail, or you can go to Fort Worth with TEXRAIL. In a few years, DART's Cotton Belt Line will be added, with brand-new FLIRT DMUs departing from the same platforms as TEXRAIL.

If you're ever at DFW again and have time to explore outside, you can find remnants of the old Airtrans system that used to be in place before the Skylink. They left quite a bit of the original guideways in place along the roads and buildings. They serviced as far as the parking lots, which still have the stations in some of them (not sure if they're boarded up or what). I was a wee lil' runt living in Dallas, and my dad would take me to DFW to watch the planes and things (this was the 90's) and I vaguely remember riding the Airtrans around. Might be worth its own video, but certainly something fun to explore.

In the 1990s did you see lots of Delta planes along with lots of AA?

Great video! Is the Texrail considered to be a light rail or a commuter service? It looks like a light rail to me but it looks a little larger and longer than the average light rail.

It’s a commuter rail! More based on the European model, although I definitely recognize a lot of American features (blinking lights, horn, etc). It’s funny how FLIRTs are used both as metro-like local trains and long distance Intercities throughout Europe.

@@Thom-TRA Yeah I can see the mixture as well with the American features and the European looking commuter system. So Texas has two commuter rails, Texrail and TRE. I do wish they can operate in more cities in Texas, as Texas is pretty huge.

@@233CFH DART will be using the Stadler Flirt Soon and replacing their current Rolling stock. Just don't know which Train they'll use next. Also DCTA usese Commuter Rail and CapMetro in Austin.
