Ha! I can so relate. My art studio is like a square walk-in closet with a single window overlooking the backyard (thank goodness because I installed an AC). It has two crawl spaces for storage. It is on the landing of the second floor with a window. The half wall along the stairwell has built-in bookshelves that I fully utilize. In my studio, I have a floor-to-wall 12"x12" cubicle unit that really comes in handy. My hubs built me a custom wall-to-wall desktop using white melamine boards from Home Depot that is one and a half desks deep and flanked / supported by cubical units on either (under) side. He also built a very sturdy L-shaped shelf overhead for additional storage where I keep all of my larger and heavier products. Behind / Opposite me, along the window wall, I created a second workspace with a melamine board that is flanked / supported by large sturdy clear storage towers with deep draws. I use it to place items during a project, so they are not in my way. He also cut cardboard shipping tubes down that I made a storage pyramid with to hold all of my alcohol markers, pens, pencils, and the like. Then I have a couple of rolling carts. In addition to the other smaller craft storage draw units, I have two single and one double with the perforated metal top. I also hung a shoebag to the side of my cubicle unit for small things and have a bunch of organizers. My hubs says I have too many supplies e.g. Little Michael's. I have a lot, but I've seen some artists that make me look like I haven't started yet. I have a few machines, e.g. Sizzix, Cricut, mini sewing machine, printer, and an airbrush unit that I keep in the hall on the shelves - not to mention my laptop, tablet and phone that I film with and my lighting, which includes a hooded studio light that is on my desktop!!! I am constantly editing and organizing the space to optimize it and make it cute so I am inspired to spend time. I painted the walls coral and hang fair lights and my art on a clotheline along the wall that I change regularly. I play jazz and burn essential oils. One out of every two moves results in something dropping or getting knocked over. I clean and put items back while I work because they get out of control in no time and compromise creativity! I think I have a sitting / standing / walking space of about 25x25 inches all around! Sometimes, all I need to do is reach to get what I need without having to get up. The bathroom is one the landing a few feet away, so that comes in handy! It is small, but I count my blessings and make it work! xo

Phenomenal piece, & excellent tutorial. This is veeery down my alley & I’m glad I came across it. In my own stuff I actually like a contrast between very vibrant, saturated, high-chroma colors & earthy colors most of the time, so it was cool to see how you used more vibrant colors in the underpainting, but the texture really brings the more subtle tones of the final piece to life- & I’d say they retain a lot of vibrancy despite being earth tones (they certainly don’t look muddy or truly muted- just earthy & rich). I do use a lot of the techniques you talk about here, like glazing & such, but texture-wise, I’ve mostly been experimenting with texturing the canvas itself in advance (using different techniques on molding paste &/or gesso) to provide the bulk of the texture, so this really provided some nice ideas about how to diversify the sources & types of texture I use. The quality of what you achieved in this one is just remarkable! Awesome work. I have read that glycerin can actually throw off the chemical balance the manufacturer intended in some paints, so I was discouraged from using it in the place or some other kinds of retarder/slow-dry medium, but I don’t know- perhaps that was written at the behest of some corporation who sells retarders & slow-dry mediums. 😆 The only problem I’ve run into with glycerin is that sometimes, for whatever reason, I end up with these weird gel clumps in paint that I mix with it, so maybe that’s related to what they were talking about, or maybe I did something wrong (I can’t recall if I also used another medium in that mixture of paint)… It did make it basically unusable, & I had to wipe it off the canvas because of the clumpy gross texture… But other times I’ve used just a single drop of glycerin & been okay. So idk if it was the specific paint, a quantity issue, some third constitutent, or what… But I have never had any problem with slow-dry mediums/gels, so I do think they’re a safe, reliable alternative. Any idea what would cause that clumping in glycerin/paint mixes? In any case, your work came our wonderfully, so clearly you can use glycerin & get good results.

Hi Matthew! Welcome to my channel. I'm glad you enjoyed the video, especially considering you have a similar art style. I really enjoyed reading your informative comment. About the glycerin clumping, my guess is that it is interfering with the binders. Sometimes my acrylic + alcohol + glycerin blend results in a clumpy mess at the bottom of the container. In fact, I just purchased a fine mesh cone shaped tea strainer to easily separate the "ink" from the residual plastic. The other day I was surprised to see that the clumps dissolved after sitting for several hours. I'm learning something new every day. As for glazing, there are no clumps, only stickiness if I use too much glycerin. I think that issue can be easy resolved with a spritz of fixative. Lately I've been making the glaze on my mat vs in a container, using Purell gel hand sanitizer instead of rubbing alcohol because it works best on a flat surface. I am always playing chemist. I have a bin of precision bottles of all sizes and tips to make fluid acrylics and acrylic inks. My recipes are anywhere from 50/50 to 60/40, but it is never an exact science because I am always adjusting. I hope I answered your question and explained myself okay. I change like the wind and often throw caution to the wind, but an aware that I am sharing what I do so I need to be as methodical and consistent as possible. Sometimes its a do what I say, not as I do more than a best practice. Thanks again for the dialog & for joining my channel! Feel free to follow up if I left anything out!! xo

Annie, I just discovered you and am fascinated by your videos. I have a question about your mixing of mediums, for example, acrylics with acrylic inks with watercolor. I had thought these weren't supposed to mix, but your pieces look amazing. Have you had any trouble later with any peeling or other problems? Thanks.
@AnniesAbstractArt10 ай бұрын
Hi & thank you, Eve! Welcome to my channel! It is perfectly okay to mixed acrylics with alcohol or water. After it thins, you can add a little glycerin to make a glaze. No, no peeling! Thanks again!! See you again soon!!

Gorgeous....I did have a question about the Arteza Real Brush Pen (Coffee) . Are these pens watercolor pens. That is all that I saw on Amazon that was that color and that type of brush tip. Thank you?
@AnniesAbstractArt10 ай бұрын
Thank you, D! From what I understand, it is ink (and they are not refillable). The brush is amazingly soft, does not fray, and you can get the thinnest line possible. I have the full set, but, of course, I gravitate towards the Coffee and Noir (jet black). Arteza sells sets of 4 of one color. From what I can tell at both Arteza and Amazon, the Nour is out of stock. I can only find the Ash Black. Before I resort to a light black, I will dip the Noir brush into black India Ink when it runs dry! Hopefully by then they will be back in stock. I am going to reach out to Arteza to confirm if it it out of stock or discontinued. I will update you!! xo
