These movies are not "mid at best". These movies are bad. At times they almost seem like parodies of screenwriting because they do pretty much everything you're not supposed to do (large and very obvious exposition dumps, zero organic character development, excruciating pacing etc.). Zack Snyder can create amazing visuals and has some good ideas. But he can't write for shit and his understanding of character apparently froze at age 14. I used to think he was like a George Lucas - good at the broad sweep of storytelling but bad at the mechanics of telling stories i.e. the actual writing of scenes, dialogue etc. - but these movies have me seriously doubting that too. He can't even make something worth watching out of "Seven Samurai", a story that's been told so many times it's basically a trope at this point.

What I learned being a Snyder fan: his best movies are a result of studio interference leading to a Director's Cut. Without Studio interference, you just get loose cannon Snyder with no restraints. As we all know, too much of anything is a bad thing. Someone needs to reel Zack in and say no sometimes, just for the sake of motivation more than anything.
@Orikon258 ай бұрын
Ironically, I think he would do really, really well in the video game industry. Being able to come up with all the crazy details and worldbuilding is useless if it's not seen in the film. Army of the Dead had the same problem, where in interviews Zack explained how the zombies have this hierarchy, and the king is called Zeus and the queen is called that, and this detail and that... NONE of that was in the film. Same issue in Rebel Moon. Films are a limited medium, but working in a video game would allow him to insert all of that across the entire game. Games with deep details and worldbuilding are always incredible, and his style would shine in that medium.

I'm sure he does listen to family and friends... his inner circle.... and the fans that go to his private screenings. And how did that work out for Rebel Moon part 2? Nearly every review is saying the same thing. "This is style over substance" and if he was willing to check out a few reviews, even from KZbin, he could've made a much more enjoyable product. The average movie fan doesn't want to sit through 5hrs worth of Rebel Moon part 1 and then an additional 5hrs of Rebel Moon part 2........ just to get the equivalent of one good movie. That's what the internet is saying and he would know that if he listened. Is priorities seem to be cool visuals, epic shots, gore, shock factor, and sex. The fundamentals of story telling seem to take the back seat. And it's not like only a few people have this opinion. And no one is saying that he has to spend the next 3 months on Twitter sifting through toxic threads from people who just want to ruin him. My point being, he's already explained his process enough times and we see the results. So he's most likely just going to keep doing what he's doing until no one is willing to fund his nonsense. And at that point, he'll start up that kickstarter and I'm convinced that the Snyder-cut fans will produce movies for him. Either way, I don't see him changing any time soon.

I'm a Snyder mega fan, but rebel moon is all of his worst traits with none of his strengths.

I've been trying to say this since he released Army of the Dead, that movie is mid at best because it didn't focus on anything. The fact that the prequel movie that is NOT directed by him, FOR HIS SIDE CHARACTER is 2x BETTER than his actual movie is very very concerning. Now he wants to do Rebel Moon, adding an additional director's cut? Come on man

He has the same problem that Robert Rodriguez has; good directing style, but awful in the writing departments. I'll be honest, I've never been a zack snyder fan and I really don't understand his fanbase. Sure he could make pretty pictures, but so can Nolan, Ridley Scott and David Fincher. Like I was thinking if Snyder was given the opportunity to direct a live action version of Attack on titan and he 100% followed the original material, he would win some of those fans back.

Just make Zack Snyder direct Diablo movie.

In any story you need good and well built characters. Characters were probably the weakest point for me in the movie.

Snyder reminds me of George Lucas during the prequel era. As much as we love those movies now, the writing was never that good. Even George admitted that. George had to many yes men during that era, they didnt challenge him like they did in the OT. Snyder has too many yes men. Netflix isn't challenging him. He has too much power. Fans like Tex are the fans he should listen to. It's okay to critique something. You criticize something because you love it. They have to reign him in, or the 3rd one will be his worst film ever.

May idk what you smoking but George Lucas got alot of things denied in the prequels. Hell, we even got robbed of a badass Mace Windu/ Palpatine fight cuz of studio interference.

These recent movies are bad, he need some good writers

Ripoff Moon-The scabies giver is another trash bin vehicle from Zackie boy. The man uses crayons to write his scripts they are SOO bad😂. Now you know why Netflix didn't promote this clunker after the awful reactions to the first film😂 To quote Admiral Akbar, "Its a TRAP"😂😂😂😂😂

What you mean the thing that he agreed to again that he kept complaining about before???? Yeah it sucks

I wish Snyder understands the failings of these films and tries to improve. I love his passion and his visual panache, but he's way too big in his own head to make a good film rn.
@jonahfalcon19708 ай бұрын
What are you talking about "ideas"? Snyder has NO ORIGINAL THOUGHTS. Army of the Dead is a one-to-one ripoff of Aliens.

Man these 2 rebel moon movies were so bad, I've completely lost all faith in him. It's fucking disheartening!

Why am I getting strong "George Lucas during the prequels" vibes from your thesis?

Zack Snyder is a good director but not nearly as good as a writer. He need a good writer to tell him no. Never believe that until i watch Army of the dead, and Rebel Moon part 1-2.

Rebel Moon 1 was mediocre at best but with some potential. 2 was a train wreck. I was angry the first time I watched 2 because I like Snyder a lot, but the movie was clearly bad. I'm hoping he can bounce back but it's hard to say. Someone he respects has to tell him the bad news, I dont know if anyone will
