He's also way more competent than anyone else, so he's technically Megatron's second in command and favorite, even though he doesn't say it. Notice how even when Soundwave fails to accomplish an objective (though usually only partially, because Soundwave is a badass) Megatron does not get mad at him. Ever.

Any number of factors could mean the difference. The setting, that he was caught off guard, that he wasn’t as used to taking hits, etc. I mean, Soundwave one-shotted Wheeljack with it by using a setting different than the one used on Arcee and Bee.

It all comes down to doing what you do for the right or wrong reasons. There are such a thing as false heroes, the kind that brave dangers for their own personal ego, to be admired and loved and Validated for their feelings. That's the kind of hero that Smokescreen was becoming. Which isn't the right kind of hero. Team Prime are Bots first, and heroes second. Meaning- they do the right thing with the right understanding, and the title of hero follows with it. But it's not a primary ideal.

That’s…kind of her point. Trying to put points on your personal scorecard doesn’t actually help make things better, in the long run. It actually makes things harder, as it goes on. Stop focusing so hard on making yourself a legend, and start simply trying your best to be a good Autobot, making things better *however* that may be. There’s more to being a hero than the look and some cheap achievements. If he simply focused on being a good person instead of a good *looking* one, he’d still earn the title of hero someday.

Lowkey don’t get arcee reason for yelling at smokescreen. Like yeah his eagerness can cause a problem in a fight with working with the team if he’s concerned about his own ego…but in that specific situation smokescreen did nothing wrong and was right to be angry at such a loss. He was told to split from bulkhead and had the relic in his sights, he lost it because starscream had hyper speed. He did everything right

It was more his *reason* for being upset that finally made her say something. He wasn’t upset he failed to get the relic for *Team Prime* here, he was upset because he had the personal desire to be a great warrior, and failed to be one here. He wasn’t thinking about the team’s failures and successes, only his own. He showed this mentality earlier in this episode, when he arrogantly acted like he could have salvaged the Knockout fight and Bulkhead talked to him. Same with the past few episodes, though he had good moments. His desire to be a hero almost got him and Jack killed in “Legacy”, but it was somewhat shrugged off because he was new, they actually got the Star Saber and he snagged an Omega Key later. He’d been racking up win after win, and it’d been inflating his ego like a balloon. He wasn’t thinking of how his loss affected Team Prime, only his destiny.

Do not understand Arcee's hate boner for Smokescreen outside of the plot needing him to leave the base alone. He did as Bulkhead ordered and got sucker punched, his dreams of being a great warrior had zero to do with the outcome of the mission

She does not hate him, she just knows the reason why he is upset has more to do with the fact of looking good than completing the mission. Smokescreen doesn’t understand missions can and will end in failure. More importantly, he needs to learn being a hero is about doing these missions without the desire for fame and glory as a prime motivation. Smokescreen clearly does want to be a good team member and sincerely does care about the cause, but he is also very young and naive. He’s basically an 18 year old straight out of boot camp, while someone like arcee is more of an experienced officer who knows the consequences of war. He wants to be a good soldier but he also wants to be a hero. He wants the glory but doesn’t yet fully understand the consequences. It’s lines where he says “I told Optimus I’d return with that key”. He wants to do his team proud but feels like he lowered his own standing in Primes eyes. Because he is so young and unaware of the war, he doesn’t know Optimus would understand this loss. Optimus will no berate him for failure. Smokescreen needs to learn that, for stuff like this, it’s okay to fail. He won’t be perfect but he wants to be. He needs to think of himself as a team player, and when the time comes to prove himself, he will. Smokescreen wants to be the best Autobot there ever was rather than being the best Autobot he can be.

She hates it because she knows where it leads. Smoke is young (by their standards) and has only experienced success and came close to becoming a Prime. As such he's prone to being arrogant and not thinking before he does anything. At best you can say she's being a bit rough with him, but at the end of the day she wasn't wrong.

Likely all the more reason she sees it as such an issue. Because she herself has had to learn the hard way what happens when one puts themself before the team. She may sound annoying on the surface, but maturity is realizing she speaks the most sense. Smokescreen was acting more like Miko- dense to consequences, and thinking they can do what they want and everything will turn out alright. It takes some hard moments to swallow the fact that war isn't a hero's playground.
