I think the whole DNA test thing is only to protect Scout, because if spy was a world wide assassin, he would have alot of dangerous enemies, which spy knows scout can't beat. So if those DNA tests were a finished, a word would spread, scouts mom and scout himself are in danger. Same for keeping a secret that he is their father and only ones that know about this is sniper, heavy, admin and pauling, but they are capable of defending themselves and know how to keep a secret. Sole reason spy still wants to keep a secret that he's scouts father and disguise as tom jones is because scout is a blabbermouth and will most likely freak out, especially during blood loss

I kind of love the way they heavily hint at Spy being Scout’s dad, even though it’s never confirmed. It keeps the mystery of Spy’s identity a little bit safe, while also basically telling us that Spy is is father. We really don’t have to worry about a bait and switch, because we probably will never be told enough about Scout’s father or Spy enough to get a conclusion.

I always thought that he's the deepest character in the game. His relationships with the mercenaries are weird, he always seemed like the wise guy but he never really cared except for scout. He truly loves his son, but he's too ashamed to reveal himself to Jeremy. Remember when They thought they'll die and they have 3 days left, Spy helped Jeremy to get a date instead of doing something else? Why would he do something like that other than he loves his son? I also think that Scout feels the same, he probably always thought about Spy as a Father figure, on the surface yes, it seems that they hate each other, but actually they have one of the strongest bond in the team

Spy's bark is awful, but I think his bite is extremely tame. He does favors for the other mercs without expecting anything in return, stops them from killing civilians unnecessarily, tries to look out for the others, etc. Also, I know that Expiration Date was goddamn weird, but in my opinion he trained Scout well; I mean Scout retained a lot of the information and put some of it to good use. He's an unorthodox teacher, like when he taught Ms Pauling piano via electroshock therapy, but he gets results. Also I know that Scout and Spy bicker a lot, but I don't think that Spy has any real cruelty on his end; either he's expressing feelings of guilty, intentionally trying to keep Scout away, or just isn't good at having normal friendships with people. I believe in him though.

Finally somebody I agree with regarding Spy! I also think that the Expiration Date 'You're Ready' sequence was him deliberately trying to get Scout to take initiative. I've seen some people read it as him being cruel, but I don't think that lines up with his character. Spy knows that the only thing holding Scout back now is his lack of confidence. Scout will do anything to one- up Spy, so if Spy sets it up like that then Scout is more likely to actually go for it; otherwise, Scout would have just kept preparing with no end date and he'd never have approached Miss Pauling for the date.

I still think the entire Team Fortress story would make one hell of a movie, or a few 1 hour long episodes on Adult Swim or something. There's a lot of story already that can be retold to new viewers, and a lot more that can be added from what we already have. It could also be used to give us conclusions to some of the big mysteries we have, such as who the Pyro really is under the mask.

8:28 Unimportant correction, but everything after this point is 1973 onward. Spy and Scout are jailed September 7th, and the trial is 5 and 1/2 months later, which is around March 1973, which is where most of the TF Comics stories takes place.
