Crazy how painting some walls red/blue make the map pop a lot more, it's neat!

Instead of removing the geometry of the removed sewer hallway, I think you should add grates to there to spice up the look even if players can't enter, especially if the final product will make the sewers look a little unkept.

Hey UEAK crash, I was wondering if you could do some kind of update/follow up tutorial to your old health pack placement one. I’m finding it to be the most difficult part of map making and there aren’t many resources out there to explain it well. Specifically about more specific stuff like how close should it be to a control point, when should you chose between small medium and large packs, from how far away should you be able to see them from, stuff like that. Even if you don’t make that, it’s still great to see you back making progress videos!

To be honest there aren't many hard rules, I've got some general thoughts I could maybe get down, but it's just roughly what I keep in mind, and adjust with testing. It's one of those things you just kind of throw out there and then when you test you watch what works and what doesn't. If I find in testing that there's big holes where you have to run too far to heal, I fix it. Sometimes an engineer is too powerful so I move the nearest ammo further away or make it smaller. It's all a very reactionary thing vs strict guidelines, at least for me.

I've noticed lots of maps use small health packs on important parts of map control. Like upward firsts left side high ground, or upwards second point left side high ground aswell inside the tunnel near the exit

brand new to mapping, absolutely love these sorta videos. helps get the perspective of someone who's got expertise & lets a new mapper like myself fill in the gaps to get there. will be looking forward to gavle/other map devlogs if they come!

This looks really cool! Maybe for the corner you mention around 16:50 you could have a ramp leading out of red's side? It would put a nice wall in blu's way that, even if it was short enough to jump over with a double or rocket jump, could provide enough visual communication to stop players from pushing past the point too much.

I just finished watching all these dev logs back to back and it's been a delight. It's always a treat to watch someone make a map from scratch to final release, like a storybook in motion. The last thing I watched like this was Grizzly Berry's community map project seen here kzbin.info/www/bejne/rHS8pqqNftaZm9E&ab_channel=GrizzlyBerry Something that stuck out to me was in part 2 of this series you added the A dropdown and said you didn't really know how to contextualize it as a kill box once it's closed. From what I can see here "10:53" its still looks like its just a drowning hurt box. I think I have a weird idea to make it a sillier and more "that makes sense" way to die in there once you get shut in. The idea struck me as I re-watched the first 6 star wars movies for Christmas this year: A TRASH COMPACTOR Make that dropdown into a massive trash compactor where 2 of the walls are spiked or ribbed like the inside of a compactor. Then once it closes, those ribbed/spiked walls close in and crush whoever is in there. I hope even if that suggestion isn't helpful, or the a dropdown kill box already has a solution to make it "fit" that my suggestion was fun to read anyways. Have a good day -Nightflyermike

My current thought is having it "flush" the player down a drain, killing them. Using some pull triggers and other effects to really sell it. Not sure if I will yet, though. Just a fun extra thing for players to stumble on.

i think for the transition to stage 2 you can make brushes that appear when the spawn changes sides and that would make the spawn proper team colored. the brushes would have to be like 4 units thicker going inside the room for that to work i think

what if the BLU spawn on the PL part of the map has blue paint covering the former red walls, with some paint rollers, buckets, etc laying around?

what kinda attributes do you give your displacements? And what kinda sculpt settings do you use with em? Trying to fine tune mine cus I can't seem to get them right
