Comp tip: This is useful in pubs, or if you're forced to face a scout 1v1, but a scout should never get anywhere near you in HL, 6s, or 4s. Scouts are basically the demos weakness, and any decent scout will be able to take you out 90% of the time. Your heavy, soldier, or scout should always be ready to defend against any enemy scouts that come your way. Be ready to call out any scouts to your team if they're coming your way.

No sorry I think you misunderstood me. This information is incredibly useful and does come in handy tons of times in all sorts of matches, but I'm trying to tell beginners not to stray away from the combo in Highlander cause the scout will most likely try to hunt you down if they get the opportunity. So stick with your combo to allow the pyro and heavy to keep the scout back. In 6s, you'll be forced to fight scouts much more often so this is very useful, but even then a lot of high league teams will be keeping the scouts (/ pocket) back a bit to protect the demoman and medic.

It's definitely OP. Valve nerfed it at one point, but then all the demo mains complained so they buffed it again. To balance things out better I think they should do the following: 1) Make the stock sticky launcher arm ~1/8 of a second after hitting a surface (could be a little shorter if needed). This would help really make a large difference between the different launchers. At the moment stock and the quickie bomb launcher fill a very similar roll. With this change, the quickie bomb launcher would be used for spam (not a problem due to it's low clip size) and clearing sticky traps, while stock would be for a more generalized use and for destroying sentry nests, with the scottish resistance keeping it's role as area denial/trapping. 2) Increase the clip size of the pipe launcher, or increase it's splash radius and damage. A slight buff to the stock pipes would make up for the nerf on the sticky launcher leaving stock demo in the same position. Ideally there would be around a 50/50 split in which item is used more, or even something like 60/40 in favour of the pipes. This would, hopefully, make demo a little more fun to play against, without making him too weak or too difficult.

Ok instructions for other scout mains fighting a smarter demo:if you don't get the first shot book it,keep in mind where he is/where he is going and the n wait for a bit before trying again later its expected to try and flank immediately not to actually run away. also if they don't have a shield don't follow that would be stupid.

When a Demoman tries to put that sticky bomb between you as Scout and him, consider the Atomizer. You can negate most splash damage and land before the sticky arms.

One thing that I notice you didn't mention (this is quite a popular technique in the competitive scene) is to not be afraid to use your melee against a scout who's hurt. If you've dealt anywhere between 70 and 125 damage to the scout (125 means he's either dead or very, very hurt), you can easily melee him if he gets too close to you. This both prevents the need to take damage from body blocking him and detonating a sticky, and it saves ammo or a chance for him to get an easy meatshot on you while you're reloading your weapons.

my demo lodout is loch n load quicky bomb launcher and stock melee. The loch n load and quicky are great for taking out sentries, and better at taking at scouts. They don't expect such a fast firing speed at distance and cqc, and they are easy to kill

Just wanted to think about ways that the scout's there could survive 1:32: Maybe being aware that he seen then go through the balcony and used the double jump or just some weapon that lets the scout jump more to go back through the balcony without him expecting it 3:05 Jumping on and around the rock shooting him with the pistol and thinking about the sticky placement more. Melee sometimes works too, when they jump into your face and try to go for a good meat-shot, if you happen to juke it then smacking him into his face could reward you with a perfectly balanced crit. Or maybe he'd already be low enough.

I always said that a fight between a demo and a scout usually will have whoever saw the other first win. This just proves that point further. (With a few caveats, though I'd argue that the scout chose poor routes during those points) Also, this helps me better understand when I should not engage with demomen better. Essentially the scout needs to reset the fight at any point that it seems they are at the disadvantage. Unlike almost all other classes where that only takes a couple seconds of being out of view, the demo needs to be disengaged entirely and a new route needs to be taken.

You know Shortstop Scouts? The Shortstop is a good weapon for mid-long range damage, which can put you in a position where predicting can be hard. Sure, Demo is sort of a long range specialist, but you can still be peppered by his tiny little 4-clip gun at long range.
