This is why I’ve stopped using the cloak and dagger recently cause i feel it forces me to be too passive. Now I use the standard invis watch as I have to be more careful with how I use it and it forces me to be more active and aggressive. For medic I would probably say, that one of the most often mistakes I see is being too close to your teammates. You should hold distance as much as possible and know ways to escape from sticky situation. Plus general anti-spy practices, like looking behind and spy-checking with your melee/crossbow/collision would be really helpful.

Personally, I'd add "Evasive manoeuvres, for the sniper especially" But that's probably my 10 hours of medic experience (120 hours of total game experience) speaking. I spaz out so badly that I can't even connect my beam (bad) against a competent sniper that's watching last point on dust bowl, he as the attacker. Also, your tip on not sticking to them like glue, yes, I learnt that the hard way when I realized how far my beam can connect but I'm rather afraid of turning around too after as I need to asses the situation in front of me and my team, and I don't want to disconnect my beam as turning 180 usually does that to me.
@Dizrak
@Dizrak 2 жыл бұрын
@@dumbleking5172 well, I didn't write about movement against snipers because it's general thing for all classes, even though medic usually the most common target. From my 180 hours as medic (2k in TF2) I can say, that efficient moving as medic requires good understanding of medigun range and crossbow usage (because it lets you hold comfortable position). Plus some rocketjump training won't hurt as well (it's a good way to improve your movement as whole). I'm sure that with some practice you'll get it quite soon

One way of throwing off a Pyro's timing is holding off on firing each rocket. Pyros _know_ the firing rate of a rocket launcher from either playing Soldier, or making Soldiers panic. Throw off the timing, and the Pyro can't predict the next rocket and has to react.

9:45 As an Engineer main who never touches a wrench, I highly disagree with this one. In situations exactly like the provided footage, your mini-sentry's role is to provide constant fire and area denial. Therefore, keeping a sentry up constantly is vital for establishing a favourable frontline. Because of this however, your sentry is subject to heavy fire and will drain your metal if you keep on replacing it. So if possible, try to save your mini-sentry since repairing it from virtually zero hp is still a lot cheaper than building a new one, not to mention the temporary lapse of gunfire which may and has resulted in a bombing soldier initiating a counter-push. If I were to list, more common battle-engi mistakes would be: 1) Neglecting your mini and thinking you and your shotgun are on par with the frontline classes 2) Thinking the Wrangler+Mini is good when there's an enemy spy/sniper 3) Charging into the entire enemy team with FJ crits/Widowmaker
@kdevelopergw
@kdevelopergw 2 жыл бұрын
as another engineer main whose wrench wants me to sign the divorce papers, if you play actual battle engineer, you would constantly want to move around the map, and constantly dragging your sentry with you can be a very crucial detriment, which is why us, battle engineers, use the gunslinger, the mini sentry is highly replaceable meaning that if you are getting into a fight with someone you can always have a "distraction sentry" healing your mini sentry can be helpful if you dont have anything else to do and you're not planning on going anywhere, but actively trying to fix your mini is not the optimal way to play battle engi
@dapperfield595
@dapperfield595 2 жыл бұрын
@@kdevelopergw I was referring to a more "team player" style of playing the sub-class, sticking to the provided clip for reference (wherein the sentry is positioned on top of the hill, along with his team). Though I do not disagree, mobility is the battle-engi's main advantage over its 125hp counterpart, and should be utilized to effectively aid the team. What I should've included in my above comment was relocating. A good lot of destroyed sentries can be avoided by just moving it to a different place every time it gets destroyed. Using the mini as a distraction in order to divert attention provide harassing fire is also an underused technique.

Combo Pyro is hardwired into my brain (I even struggle to use other flamethrowers because of how used I am to the Degreaser switch speed), and sometimes I just try to pull off stupid shit when I really shouldn’t. Sometimes you really do just need to hold down the fire button. However, funnily enough, I have also noticed the opposite to this happening sometimes: I start off in a game doing my combo stuff, but eventually, if the enemy team is bad enough at killing me, I realize I just don’t need to, and start just pressing down M1, including in the situations where doing a combo actually IS the better option. Being a medic main I think this is a fallacy. If the medic's team is being steamrolled then there will not be enough time to charge uber before he gets killed, unless a boston basher scout in spawn starts bleeding himself (but by doing this you neglect your teammates at the front and your uber will end up regaining the ground your team just lost). A mistake I see for medics constantly is them pocketing a lot and ignoring team mates. One time I was scout and burning alive. I'm down to 30 hp and couldn't make it to a resupply, but I find a medic healing a heavy, but he ignored me and watched me die. If that medic had healed me for at least a second I would have at least survived the burn damage and could go to respawn instead of waiting on the timmer.

Spy tip: The friendly disguises are a powerful tool that is generally overlooked. Here's some uses for them aside from the end of setup dr stuff or "hoovy". Traversing behind enemy lines conserving cloak and not wanting to be seen by wallhacks (also applies to spawn camping). When you want to stop spy from using his tobacco filled lungs to scream about the cart without the wallhack danger (and also to push the cart). Being a body double for a teammate (may require the dr). Baiting an enemy to enter melee range. Deterrence (like for example disguising as a pyro to deter sollys or disguising as a sniper to deter general stuff) Giving yourself or a teammate an extra weapon via dr (the caber is perfect for this). Capping the point with knockback resistance. I'm sure there's more, just remember to use your friendly disguise every now and then.

For the Battle Engie, they might not have a dispenser because they mismanaged their metal or tapped a damaged building on the way out without thinking. If there's no ammo kits, they're probably waiting for an enemy to drop one. For a regular Engie, one mistake is leaving your sentry in a single spot once it's built. Once it's gotten a few kills and the enemy knows where it is, moving it to a different spot during a safe period can catch them out and save you rebuilding. Then you can move it again and again to keep them guessing. Sometimes the enemy gets a couple of rage Spies specifically to counter you, which means fewer people countering your allies doing the actual objective. A similar principle applies to sticky traps, but I've seen one guy run into the exact same trap twenty times in a row... Not even kidding.

Another thing to note about knowing when to abandon your nest as Engi is that it also applies to Medic as well. You're priority as Medic is to heal, yes, and stay alive as long as possible. The more time you're alive the more heals you can give. So when most of your team dies to the kritzs Heavy or you're pocket REALLY want's to go deep with uber, you might want to start thinking about how to run away before the enemy team descends on you.

Medic main here, I saw that in the list of suggested common Medic mistakes was "Sticking to the Crossbow(?)" I think I can explain why that's on the list. The Crusader's Crossbow is a fantastic weapon, easily the best Medic primary, no one will dispute this. However, the old adage "when all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail" comes into play here. A hammer is a fantastic and simple tool, but that doesn't mean it can drive in a screw very well. Sure it's possible, I guess, but you might have better luck with a screwdriver, or drill. The Crusader's is great at keeping your team very healthy, but it's not very great at keeping _you_ healthy. It does respectable damage up close, but it doesn't quite match the potential of the Syringe Gun and variants. I know, I know. I sound insane, but hear me out. They aren't great at combat (nothing a Medic has is), but if you get good with them, you can dish out a lot of damage. Let's talk numbers. If you land all your needles, the stock Syringe Gun has ~120 dps at point-blank range. That's 10 shots-per-second at 12 damage each (because of damage ramp-up). At "close" range, expect 10 damage per needle. Either way, you're never going to deal that 100/120 dps in actual gameplay, but you'd be surprised how much you can deal if you work on your tracking and _lead your target._ Keep in mind that stock melee deals 65 dps, which is just over half the potential of these primaries. Ignoring the stock, the Blutsauger can be used a lot like the Ubersaw, but for health instead of Uber. If you see a half-dead enemy, you can quickly switch to it and fill them with needles to regain a lot of health very fast. The Blut's health gain is +3 health per needle, and it has the same shots-per-second of the stock at ~10. That's +30 health if you land all your shots! This is why the Blutsauger can help defend against afterburn a little. Doing this at ~melee range on an unsuspecting target can be extremely effective. I recommend attempting this if they're on about 25% health, and you know you can kill them. Basically, follow the same rules as the Ubersaw, and pick your battles. Even better against Pyros is the Overdose. I'm not going to break it down, you run fast. Even at 50% Uber, you can notice the difference. Backpedaling away from a Pyro (while shooting) becomes actually somewhat viable, and straight up-running away from danger becomes very viable. You shouldn't be sitting with 100% Uber ever, really, but we've all been in those scenarios where we have our charge ready, and our pocket gets quick-scoped before we can pop it. Now you're alone vs. the enemy team, you should be dead-to-rights. Except, you have a tool that turns you into a Scout in your pocket, and you can try an escape. Just pull out the Overdose, think like the wimp from Boston, and leg it! Beyond the above, the syringe-type guns all work well in close-quarters where the Crusader's struggles. If you find yourself on a team where support is lacking, they can give you that extra edge to fight back against the enemy, which might save your life. Remember, at 10 damage per needle, you only need 15 to kill a light class with about 2 seconds of fire. Most players won't be sitting on full health (especially Soldiers and Demos), so the number of hits you need is surprisingly few. While I have often found that I don't kill my enemies with the syringe-type guns, I typically leave them at around 30 health. That's a pretty good trade when I would have died anyway, with any primary! So, like all(most) weapons in TF2, they have a purpose and a place. Know your arsenal!

I think toofty means using crossbow too much Each arrow fired, assuming not a long range crit-arrow, is a loss to uber built - you get your uber much later than just beaming Crossbow is by far the best primary - you don't need overdose speed to live if you know when to engage in fights or not Syringes are just to fight for fun by yourself - perfectly fine aslong as you don't care about your teammates that often :)

I will not stand for this syringe gun propaganda, and besides, you misunderstood the point of that mistake. The mistake is having your crossbow out instead of your medigun too much, not having the crossbow equipped all the time. That's not a mistake. The crossbow is the only medic primary you ever need to use to play medic optimally. The syringe guns CAN do things the crossbow can't, but overall they're absolutely not worth the hassle of having to learn how to hit shots with them.

@@5JSX5 I disagree, but thats opinion. I've top scored with both the Crusader's and the Blutsauger. And even if you disregard points, my teams won because I used proper positioning, prioritized healing, and deployed my uber effectively. None of those key Medic principles rely on the primary weapon at all. Sure, I agree, don't use a syringe gun in tournament play, but tournament play isn't casual. Furthermore, you can properly position all you want, but situations get messy. You can be forced out of position, you can make mistakes, and your team can make mistakes. The syringe guns can do a slightly better job at covering for those specific scenarios. Also, it's really not much of a hassle to learn how to shoot them. It's actually pretty simple.

IMO Scout: Taking all the hard fights (disadvantaged state or enemy has full health) instead of capitalizing on speed and finishing off low health targets. Soldier: Unstrategic and/or uneccessary bombs. Suicide-bombing the Medic isn't ALWAYS the best play, especially if the Medic has already used Uber, and being alive may provide much more value at the moment. Pyro: Under-use of secondary, over-use of primary/airblast guessing. The best Pyros in the game do quick, reliable DPS with their secondary. Reflects are the cherry on top, if you can get it. Demoman: Strictly rapid detonation of stickies (like they're in a panic), quickly depleting ammo instead of being more deliberate. Next thing they're all out of stickies and switch to Iron Bomber when their push is already SOL. Heavy: Generally, overestimating his ability to push, being too aggressive. You really have to think about positioning 24/7 because he's so slow and can't bail easily. Engineer: Hogging all the buildings in one spot instead of putting each in a spot that benefits the team. I.e. we need more dispensers on the frontline. Medic: Not exercising agency; dying with dumb dumb dummies instead of prioritizing your main goal, Uber. If you're not getting to 100% Uber, you're not doing it right. Sniper: Always in scope. They need to practice seeing a target, lining up, then scoping. Spy: Getting into the perfect position behind the enemy, yet prioritizing whatever you see first over important kills. Going for that newb with 0 points, no Steam avatar, clad in Pyrovision Goggles instead of removing the key threats that your Sniper can't reach (Engie, Demo, Heavy, Med building Uber).

Spy stuff even as a new player I always make sure to account where I'm at in the map, usually I'll be picking off cozy snipers and hitting anyone who's brave enough to be alone, so I'll choose a sniper or engineer disguise since most people don't usually question when a sniper is in the sniper spot
@teedeegremlin
@teedeegremlin 2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say you're right about Pyro, unless we're excluding the Panic Attack/Degreaser combo. In that case, then yeah, flares are cool but Pyro's shotgun is the best counter to another Pyro. Either that or a flare while they're still bathing in your fire. As for Huntsman, not gonna lie, you're right but it's still funny when you outsnipe a rifle sniper with it.

A big one for spy is underestimating the effectiveness of acting like the class/player you've just disguised as Plus it just feels so cool to genuinely fool the other team

it's weird how most sniper players you see just don't really understand how powerful (re)positioning can be for a class like that. if i had a dollar for every free headshot i got jumping off battlements to sewer exit to intercept someone who i spotted in the water, i could probably go buy a golden pan.

In my opinion the biggest Medic mistake is only ever having the Crusaders Crossbow or he Ubersaw equipped, Weapons like the Vita-Saw or syringe gun can use a little time in the spotlight

Spy player checking in here! Overall, good video! There are a few pointers I'd like to add to the common spy mistakes. First and perhaps most obviously, when cloaking to escape an enemy, a lot of new spys tend to back away in a straight and or predictable line. Mixing up your movement while cloaked is very useful. Next tip (this is just a tip to help out my fellow spies) if you are caught out as being a spy, a good thing to do is to actually switch your disguise (after cloaking). The usual smoke effects you get when disguising aren't visible when you are cloaked. And as a tip for complete beginners.. Don't pick spy as your first class. Or do if you want a really tough first experience. I'll be honest, spy is one of the harder classes to get good with, so as a first class, I'd recommend soldier. Lastly, as someone who enjoys playing pyro, the biggest common mistake I often see is people not playing using the Dragon's Fury (:

I'd agree with you on pyro, but i see plenty of ppl using shotguns on the sydney servers. However everyone seems to use the powerjack or the axstinguisher, whereas i tend to use the backscratcher. I have been since it was originally added with its OG minicrits from behind

I wish you took the time to explain the notes in the 'more common mistakes' section. Some of those mistakes/suggestions are not clear at all based on the few words on the screen, like you can't even know what they mean devoid of context. For instance, disguising as scout is not a mistake in itself, so that would need some explanation as to when it is a bad idea to do that. Or sticking to the crossbow on medic, which could mean that it's a mistake to always have the crossbow equipped in your loadout menu, when what it's actually trying to say is having your crossbow out in game is a mistake when you could build uber faster if you used your medigun most of the time and only used the crossbow for burst healing when necessary. Great video though! I think it's a really good sign that the biggest problem I have with it is that I want more of it, even if its length ended up making it less clear what you actually want to say with some of the tips/mistakes.

Thing is with the pyro combos, even if you don't need to do it to kill them, it's way more satisfying than just m1ing them, and I play this game for fun, not for the most efficient way to get something done.

As a Medic main, the biggest mistake you can make is having any confidence whatsoever in your team. Play Medic with the assumption that your team will function about as effectively as a shovel made entirely of ham and you will reign supreme at the top.

As a Pyro main, I recommend learning puff and sting tactics with the flare gun crits as a number 1 priority as it is one of the best ways to finish off enemies that dip in and out of flame thrower ranger because of the 50% dmg fall off in the first second

As spy, I’ve carried casual games, tripling or even quadrupling my teams 2nd and enemy teams 1st. “Try Uncletopia” Uncletopia definitely is harder, but I still can simply double or triple my teams 2nd and the same for their 1st. Spy does get double points on backstab, just so we’re clear, so getting double the points to me is barely passing who is in my teams 2nd. My favorite game mode is payload, so getting an enemy team wipe is VERY beneficial to the team.

I think he means overusing the crossbow. Healing with the crossbow gives you less uber than just healing regularly. So don't use the crossbow if you don't need to so your build rate is better.

7:00 Big addition to this is not switching off of Engie on Defense CP maps after your sentry has been destroyed and the enemy team might be going for a big push. Usually there isn't enough time to get up a level 3 in that time and switching to Soldier/Demo can help defend the point much easier in that enemy push, or even going Pyro to airblast enemies off the point if they have ubers. Then if successful in defending, you could switch back to Engie to try to rebuild. Bonus points to other teammates that will temporarily switch to Engie to help you build up and switch back.

A tip for playing Scout: As a Scout, you are fast and mobile, but also have low health. As such, you are not a front lines class. Think of Scout as the same kind of class as Spy or Pyro. Try to use sections of the map less traveled for getting around, and flank enemies from behind as often as possible. Use your speed and mobility to confuse enemy players, and most importantly of all know when it's better to run than to hold your ground.

biggest mistake for sniper is easily poor target priority while you could kill just about anyone on the enemy team, it's important to focus on actual high value targets: you are a pick class go for medics, snipers and engies above all other classes as they are very important to keep alive, then go for the DPS classes like demos, soldiers and heavies don't bother with scouts and spies because they are too unpredictable and your bullets are best spent on slower and more dangerous targets
