Yeah I play quick-fix as group support. If you're running two medics, you _could_ have two pockets who invariably try to pocket the same guy, and get in each other's way bc the medigun doesn't stack with each other. . . Or you could have one pocket and the other running quick-fix, and therefore have group support that's better than two people being healed constantly

@@galacticgamer6635 ok yeah i was exaggerating the point a bit. but traps dont require nearly as much knohnwledge of the enemies as offensive stickies. the effective way to use the scotres is to trap doorways you think people will go through, now obviously theres some prediction in that, but you have roughly 3-4 doorways you can trap and most maps have that or less doorways which are accesable in the same sightline, meaning you really only need to choose a general area. and once your traps are set up, which consists of shooting a wall, all you need to do is click on it to set off the trap. i think non demo players often severely underestimate how difficult it is to use stock stickies offensively while overestimating how difficult it is to use traps effectively. and yeah i got a (cough) little salty whenfsoas kept on saying spam like thats the entire weapon, and i took it out on the scotres like a drunk father. i still believe the scotres has a higher skill floor but a significantly lower skill cap due to you only needing to master one of the simplest aspects of the stickybomb launcher, due to the others not being accesible on the scotres.

I'm a terrible demoman but I love it because you can vomit out a minefield in like 3 seconds. Which I do, on the front lines. Because yes, they take time to arm, but what are the enemies gonna do? Sit there and wait for them to finish arming so you can blow them to pieces? Hell no, they're gonna scatter like the fuzz is on the way. Even a heavy can't shoot them all, so unless they have a short circuit engi they have no choice but to run or die. The Scottish Resistance is the fastest way to mark your territory in all of TF2, and once it's marked enemies HAVE to respect it under penalty of death.

This is further substantiated by the fact that the Scottish resistance uses a different detonation mode than stock.

People tend to be offensive with sticky. The ENTIRE purpose of stickies is to be defensive. The Scottish Resistance practically says “That’s not how you play it”

Stickies can be used both offensively and defensively, the Scottish resistance is just more specialized towards a more a more defensive role, like how the quickiebomb launcher is more specialized towards a offensive role

I am that other guy who loves this gun. Here's one thing to remember: A stickybomb that has existed for more than 5 seconds ignores player-distance falloff (Not explosive radius falloff). So the resistance bombs usually are way more powerful since they're often left there longer before detonating.

Was a quake player back in the day, and the Grenade Launcher was my tool of the trade. TF2 ported over the grenade launcher almost identically, so I always felt right at home being aggressive with the grenade launcher... As intended... Getting my hands on the Scottish resistance, was like getting an upgrade. It did absolutely everything I needed it to do, and paired perfectly with the stock grenade launcher. It's all about the mindset.

The grenade launcher is only better for close quarters combat, which a good demo will avoid. The Scottish Resistance is good. But it does turn the demo's primary weapon into a utility secondary which is a severe tradeoff.

Yah the Scottish Resistance strategy isn’t worse than stock, it is simply different. If you have played for a bunch of hours getting used to the stock sticky launcher’s arm time, then use the Scottish Resistance expecting it to play exactly the same, then of course you will be disappointed. I guess the upside of people not using the Scottish Resistance because they don’t know how to use it is the fact that they often don’t expect numerous sticky traps from one Demo, thus allowing the Scottish Resistance to be more effective.

Yknow the game really is just one that you try to throw so many rocks at to kill it off, and it just gets off it's old man's chair and beats the shit out of you. As a person that mains Demoman, sticky spamming is part of optimal demoman gameplay (not that I play optimally and seriously 24/7). However, I see so many pub demos running around with m1 and m2 perminatley taped down that it makes me a little sad (and annoyed as well for the spam). Sticky spamming is definitely part of Demoman gameplay, however there is a time and place for it. I find it really obnoxious when people just sticky spam and nothing else. Personally though I do prefer using pipes anyway so whatever.

It can be part of optimal demoman gameplay, nobody is saying it isnt, but it's still an extremely low skill high reward strategy and people will always be annoyed at that for good reason. It's no different than Scorch Shot, Jarate-Bushwacka, Passive/Defensive Black Box-Conch, Phlog, or anything else that requires very little effort and skill to use.

Like LazyPurple's sticky trap revelation, this video has enlightened me. I started playing a few matches like you suggested, layering traps, and had much success. But then, in the chaos of battle, especially when defending, even just laying traps became a bit distracting. The Scottish Resistance can just put down sooooo many, that there's just not enough time to think where as more and more enemies keep coming. So, on a round of payload Badwater, I discovered that the Scottish Resistance is very good at sticky spam too, or in more dignified terms, minefields. With the higher firerate and sticky count, it's very easy to saturate a chokepoint or objective. Even if badly placed and visible, the carpet of stickies is going to deter most players. As for those who attempt to clear or cross it, there's always a couple of stickies that can be detonated around the trespasser(s). And since the stickies aren't detonated together, one can easily refill the minefield after repelling a push. The downside is that you might become a favourite target for spies and snipers. Offensively, it can be used to cover the flanks of a push, or stop a counterattack. As well as clearing out other traps.

It is more of a downside than even the shorter arming time, making detonating two different clusters at the same time impossible. However, it does mean one doesn't need to detonate all stickies at the same time, ergo any misfired sticky can theoretically last half a round and come in clutch as a completely unexpected trap. Or, in general, one doesn't have to ruin their trap or minefield just to get one pesky scout.

I’d say that the idea of sitting in an area and watching multiple chokes to detonate your stickies isn’t actually the best way to use the Scottish Resistance (like how LazyPurple tried to use it). Instead you should be a bit more on the offensive, setting up sticky traps on many doorways and corners that are close to the front line. This way you can have a sticky trap ready no matter where the enemy comes from, and they will never know where you could have a sticky trap next. Also don’t be afraid to abandon old sticky traps, as you should be following your team on the offensive to set traps as to stop any flanking or counter attacks. Old sticky traps can also come in handy later if you need to retreat or are getting chased. The amount of times a cocky Scout thought he had on easy kill on a Demo only to walk right into my trap is one of the great satisfying things about the SR

My biggest issue with the Scottish is when I try looking over to a certain spot with my trap, and trying to detonate, but it doesn't line up *quite* right, and it's frustrated me so many times. Almost gave up on this weapon, but I'll give it another go

One thing that I think is pretty useful to do with the Scottish Resistance is to dump a load of stickies on the track for the Payload, and because the stickies are highlighted, and the Payload also is, you can always know when to detonate if you don't want to dump stickies right at the cart.

Scottish stickies are several levels of mindgames ahead of everything. People are not used to them so if you sticky spam at them and they don't receive damage they just think you overshot your stickies or somehow they evaded the explosion, not bothering to look down to see the stickies are just patiently waiting that extra second before going off. Man i love that weapon.

@@zesnowpea6347 Its bassicly a file that tells the game how the settings should be. You can make your own at Config.tf, and when placed into the game folder, it will set the settings to the ones that the config specifies. The issue with this is that I accidentaly disabled glow effects, which makes it so that you can't see the scottish resistance stickies through walls. If you reenable the setting, it wont matter because the config will set it back to "disabled" after every match, meaning that you have to reenable it constantly. So watch out for how you configure your config file, because it can be annoying trying to correct it.

With more damage coming out of each sticky, which requires you to charge them, and with the lower clip size, you have to make each sticky bomb count. Not only that but you're gonna be fighting enemies from all kinds of ranges so you have to time and aim them properly.

I've used the Scottish resistance as my main secondary from the day I got one. Personally I can't live without it. It's gotten to the point where I forget that I constantly mix it up with stock because I forget that the SR isn't default. I think I started using it once I got back into TF2 a few years ago, before that my time as Demo was spent sticky spamming with stock. My memories of the time are a bit fuzzy because of how long ago it was but all I remember was that when I got back into the game, my time as demoman was at 4 hours and my points as him were absurdly higher than my other classes. That's all it took, 4 hours of sticky spamming to start getting good points. Do I think the skill ceiling with stock stickies is high? Yes. Do I think you need to get up to the higher levels to use sticky spamming effectively? Not at all.

Yea, but also doesn't it feel cheap to do so? In technical terms, you only need 3 to kill a heavy, which is a bit above a third of the clip size, and in practical cases you will need 5, which is a bit close to half. You know it's strong, but at what cost? Winning isn't the only way to feel good in games, look at soundsmiths content. He has a good laugh playing any game that he puts up atleast, and he had a good time playing even fallout 76, a game regarded widely as being bad

I always liked this thing as it was meant to do what the demo was meant to do, defend positions but also allow him to not have to be so pick an choosy about when to pop. A quick mouse over and click and one set goes while the other stays to continue to act as guards. It also discourages spam and brainless spamming with stickies which in turn means that a demo with good pipe aim and this can effectively lock down areas, Which also ups his skill cap. Not enough people use it cause Sticky spamming is so rewarding and basically does the same thing.. but on a well coordinated team that is giving good coms on when to pop (My crew would number doors and then say things like 'pop1') It adds more defense to, well, defenses. Or even escape routs if your Demo is a roamer both for your team and against the enemy team.

There is no team in team fortress 2 (kind of ironic) so the SR is worthless since, according to you, the SR is best with a team watching your back. But all players on your team don't care about what happens to you. You get hurt, You call for your medic (who happened to be on your team) but he ditches you for the guy with the CoOl NaMe and unusual that cost him a dollar, and then you get killed by that spy that just so HAPPENED to be in the corner with the CAD, and you ditch the SR for the stock and get kills. Eventually the SR becomes obsolete to you because it just isn't enough sticky to be a sticky launcher, and then you sell it.

My absolute favorite part of the scottish resistance is that stickies are a pain to get rid of without specific tools. Rockets just throw them around a little, airblast barely pushes them, and bullets are so finicky that it takes ages to dedtroy even 3. So you can just put them literslly anywhere and people have to respect the stickies. I barely use traps that much, i just cover the main floor in a huge patch of stickies. No one wants to risk walking over that so the team has to slooooowly push the stickies back to which you can then place more and make their life hell. Surprisingly people dont switch to scorch shot, quickies, or short circuit all that much.

I absolutely adore the Scottish Resistance - I unboxed a strange one back in 2012-2013, and have used it ever since, as well as collecting a variety of other ones including an old vintage one. It delves deep into an aspect of TF2 that no other weapon touches - the strategy and thinking around very small and detailed areas of a map. I used to play a lot of 2fort back when I was young and just getting into the game, and devising trap layouts that would cover an entrance in-depth and allow me to retreat or advance as I wanted became one of my favourite things to do, and over time I learnt patterns of where people went on a wide variety of maps, where they typically looked for stickies and traps, and how best to exploit those behaviours. It's a weapon that, no exaggeration, has hugely deepened the experience of TF2 as a whole for me. Blowing up a fully-overhealed Heavy with four or five stickies that they never even saw never ceases to be extremely satisfying on a level that a normal frag will simply cannot match in my mind. I sincerely love this thing and it's a significant part of why I'm still resolutely playing and enjoying TF2 nearly a decade later.

This is one of my favourite weapons in the entire game. The stickybomb outlines at any point on the map don't work if you play with DX 8, so I always pay DX 9 even though my PC would run so much better otherwise. I don't use stock stickybombs anymore because they feel so much less versatile and the rate of fire makes stock feel SLOWER that the SR to me.

on Control point and Payload maps, yes. otherwise, no. that said, what do you think of the Stock items having SOME stats over none? the obvious example is the stock bottle getting a "on drink taunt, gain 25HP that can overheal to 50HP" as an upside, plus the Ullapool caber taunt was to be the Tauntkill for bottle so maybe a "press R to switch between drinking taunt and taunt kill modes" as a stat? or do it like the Rainblower and Stock Flamerthrower where the Scottish Handshake has the taunt kill and stock bottle has the drinking.

Finally, someone gets it! Despite what everyone says about the Scottish resistance, people can't seem to resist walking over the stickies! It's so weirdly effective to just lay down a carpet on the floor and watch people run right into it. And I couldn't tell you how many times a single out of place sticky has saved my life from a low health enemy. But above all, one two punching people with the loose cannon or a second trap is even more satisfying than market gardening. The Scottish resistance is good!

The Scottish Resistance is my preferred sticky launcher, I use it to take the idea of "Every Sticky is a trap" to the logical conclusion and set "traps" I have no intention of ever detonating all over the objective area to funnel enemies into sniper sightlines etc. The large active bomb pool lets me cover a very large area and the quick fire rate lets me replenish destroyed stickies so even an airblasting pyro doesn't have the confidence to move through. I've played a lot of pl_barn (or whatever the actual name is, can't be bothered to check) and have actively noticed that any time I die defending the final point the enemy suddenly gets a lot more brave with pushes. It also good for forcing me to get better with pipes, something every prospective demo main or career sticky spammer should do. In short, good video, Scottish Resistance fans rise up, or something!

I don't know why, but i sometimes use it not like a Stickybomb Launcher, but as a Stickybomb Mortar. i often use the higher firerate to shoot a couple bombs upwards over some wall to surprise some poor soul. I first fell in love with this weapon defending the last point on metalworks for something like over 10 minutes by trapping all the choke points that come towards the point as well as the point itself, and feeling like a one man army as the game goes into stalemate because the enemy team couldn't capture that one final point. It is by no means a bad weapon and I like it a lot, I am really happy to see you try and erase some of the bad reputation it has.
