Hey, I get it. You're sick of trolldier, and you're sick of how many show up every time I upload a video about 'em. You're probably wishing you had a better way to fight them. Well, that or you're already typing out an angry comment about how obvious this all is and how I and everyone else who plays trolldier is bad at the game. I'm not gonna argue that last part, it's pretty much true. But I'm still making this video. This is how you fight trolldiers.

The stairs in that one room haven't been enveloped with a player clip brush. All stairs naturally have geometry but that brush is used to create an invisible incline so that player's view doesn't jolt up and down when climbing them.

Just realized something you missed: When trying to use movement to juke the Trolldier, *Be very wary and aggressive when they have the B.A.S.E Jumper equipped.* That thing extends a Trolldier's air range like nobody's business, even if it leaves them more vulnerable in the air as a result, so you want to take advantage of that.

Hey Sound, instead of using frame interpolation for slow motion, I would really consider looking into recording demos instead and using host_timescale with a > 1 scalar factor, as it's honestly really shoddy with your current technique, and just turns everything into a mess with the amount of distortion. There's just not enough frame information for the computer to know what to do. This'll improve your production quality by a lot more, plus you can do other things in demos like disable hud, do out of person camera movements, and adjust other console parameters in post, and nestles your whole recording into a single low file size .dem

I just realized how much trolldier is like spy... relying on generally odd gimmicks to get in and out efficiently (invis/dead ringer and rocket jumper + Mann treads) relying on odd and deceptive movement to bait enemies to do what you want to land a garden (comparable to all forms of trickstabbing) using a gimmicky melee that often doesn't register properly (failstabs and "getting hitreg'd" as they say) and only being able to focus on one person at a time. Hell, as a spy main who knows how to trickstab I noticed I often use many spy trickstab tactics to land gardens, ex: bait people to follow me around a corner (say on the large health pack by cliff) to only do a "short-hop" (more smash comparisons ) to either smack em when they round the corner or jump over them entirely and get them from behind so they don't even see you. Or on say the corner stairway to get back to your spawn on Hightower, you can do something similar to a corner stairstab but now because you have the rocket jumper you can essentially fly over their head without them even seeing you and with the extra strafing power of the manntreads and the speed of your rocket jump they have little time to react. So I guess now whenever a trolldier fails a tricky market garden we have to belittle and taunt them too and if they do land that tricky garden I guess we need to blame it on lag comp and hitreg instead of accepting that they fooled us... yeah no I'm still salty about all the meme lords who belittle spies for trying to trickstab and act like their absurdly similar play style is clearly superior and is never to be mocked to the same degree... God damn it.

as somebody who works with Hammer (the mapping tool for source games) from time to time, I can explain 10:00 you see, there is a bug in the source engine which makes stairs stop blast damage if you shoot a rocket at it (because the rocket damage would be "hitting around a corner"), to prevent that, mappers use a "blockbullets" clip brush over the stairs, which makes them into ramps, these stairs on pipeline don't seem to have that brush, making them also shaky to walk upon, this is also one of the reasons there is a clip-brush there... they aren't ramps with textures on them, they are props with clip-brushes through them to help gameplay.

I've always found practising Conditioning (and the associated back-and-forth mind games) really hard in TF2. The game is so chaotic, that it's really hard to tell what any given player has been conditioned to do at any given time. Like in your Spy/Engie stairstab example, you might stairstab an Engineer twice, so by the third time he recognises a pattern and doesn't pursue you up stairs. Meanwhile you realise that he's figured out your trick, and start shooting at him instead. But that interaction only works if you're sure the Engineer is the same person every time. After two stairstabs, the Engineer might get frustrated and switch to Pyro. Then you might try to bait the Pyro into a stairstab, thinking it's a different player who is ignorant of your tricks, only to get outwitted and punished. Similarly, the sheer number of other players around makes for an extremely unpredictable system. You might get one stairstab on the Engineer, but some other Spy on your team might get two more. So when you come round to try another stairstab, the Engineer has already been conditioned not to pursue, and you get punished for it. How exactly are you supposed to get around these problems?

TBot Alpha by changing the tactics you’re using too, and being aware of the new classes you see. Example: if I’m a scout who killed a spy with the same tactics three times, I’m gonna expect him to try a different approach. I may counter this by kill feed reading to see if he’s still on that class, and to see if he’s more into taking out teammates over chasing me. Plus if I know a spy will favor pyro/heavy to counter scoots, then I can be more cautious around those classes. As for teammates stealing tactics, try moving to a different part of the map. Alternatively, switching classes can at least toss the enemy off you, and focus them on the teammate who’s already stairstabbed them multiple times. I hope some of that gibberish can come in handy. This game is too in depth for its hat sim roots.

10:40 Sorry if you already know this, but it's actually the other way around. Stair models with proper collision already set for them have an invisible ramp placed on top of them. They're called "clips" and they're mega useful in smoothing out jank geometry for players and whatever physics items may apply. Clipping stairs into ramps is standard for any source map because it makes it a lot smoother (instead of bumping up/down every step). It allows for more precise positioning and aiming. The reason why some maps may not have clipping is because well... map makers can be lazy about it. This can go to even the individual stair level. It's more work to clip every single set of stairs present in your level, and even if you try, you might forget some. Beyond that, properly clipping maps wasn't something Valve did until some time after the release of TF2. I don't know when that map was released but chances are it was before clipping became standardized, and they never bothered to update it (probably because no-one plays plr maps other than hightower).

You may recognize their more popularly pointed out SJW subclass. for example: the things I hated more than the Ugandan knuckles meme itself were A; people missing the joke and doing wrong because they thought they could grab views easily. B; people screaming at people for using a "dead meme" when they used Ugandan Knuckles. I can understand the people who honestly complained that it was cancer. But trying to call someone out for using a "dead meme" just makes you look like a meme nazi.
