Before you ask, yes I'm going to be making a video about the Short Circuit since it was updated last week to be a freakin Mega Man gun. Uploading that video will take some time since I'm waiting on a few possible bug fixes and generally just getting a good feel for how to use it effectively, so thanks for your patience. Hopefully this video holds ya'll over in the meantime. :)

"Dumb Idea" It's not a dumb idea. I honestly never thought of using the script commands. I recorded a bot I scripted to run around the maps playable areas barrier recording the amount of steps and space between such steps along with the possibility feet varying space placement. I created the odd formula of, (S ÷ 2) × B() = A The () was implemented incase of foot variance, I could take how ever many variances subtracted from the total S (Steps) and had their own formula and either time up or down depending upon variance. Even then, the bot had true troubles running off of my potatoe of a computer and what was quiet simply, a horrible slapped together script. The bot also had issues with going off of the cliff as shown, it is a playable area, making it restart it's entire path. Flooding the map would've been twenty times easier than having a bot run around. Then again, the bot running around did give me a good laugh as the program began to freak out and the head began to appear in his crotch.

I really like your honesty, when you say things like: "what I would call their 'actual sizes'" (1:45) and "it would still be bigger than dustbowl _in_ _terms_ _of_ _playable_ _surface_ _area_ " (9:17) There's so much sloppiness with definitions, and some people even use it for deception. Liked and subscribed! Also, how about this measure: The minimum number of characters (or cameras) you would need to place for every playable-area-pixel to be in line-of-sight of at least one of them. E.g. for a square map with an empty single room building in the middle, you would need three: Two at opposing corners of the house, and one inside. This could to some extent solve the problem of big open useless spaces making a map bigger. A computationally heavy brute force way of doing it would be to put stationary enemies everywhere, and see how many sentries you would need to put down to hit all of them. Where enemies everywhere would mean, say, one per square Hu, on a uniform grid. Obviously there must be a better way of doing it that doesn't use the game but works with the map files directly, I just wanted to be constructive.

@sgtcrwhips43676 жыл бұрын
But i dont get it, its one of tf2s most profitable things
@bobbyferg91736 жыл бұрын
Sgt Crwhips Eh not too sure about that as the mainly profitable thing about MvM is the tickets and since people need a lot of them to get what they want (a chance at an Australium) the people who would usually be buying these things are the Whales and they are almost guaranteed to buy things. Plus the money from people buying keys and taunts from the creates from updates is more than enough money for the work valve does compared if they attempt to work on the massive under taking of MvM.
@sgtcrwhips43676 жыл бұрын
Yes, that is true, but its one of the most played gamemodes, and they showed some intesrest in it, as the Titanium Tank Tour presented
@bobbyferg91736 жыл бұрын
Sgt Crwhips Not too sure about that either, I mean sure there are plenty of servers where a bunch of F2Ps are running around but the Mann up servers are usually empty or have long queue times. When valve gave up on it, everyone else seems to have as well, except those still dedicated making community events of course but those are the minority.

Has anyone pointed out the error at 5:48? There is 1,000,000 square meters in a square kilometer, not 1000, so it should read far less km^2 than it does, or far more m^2 Doing some checks it seems that the quoted size 1kHu^2 may not match up either and is off by a factor of 1000.
@erictheepic5019 Жыл бұрын
4 years later and I just noticed this as well. Dane is evidently not an engineer IRL, because those unit conversions are awful. It looks like he just took the figure in square kilometers, and then treated it as a linear unit. Divide 0.34 by how many kilometers in a mile, and you get his value for square miles. Multiply the square kilometers by 1000, and you get his figure for square meters. Multiply the square meters by how many feet in a meter, and you get his figure for square feet. If I were a teacher and this were anything but highschool physics/math, I would give 0 points for his answers.

A lot of the larger maps (aside from Enclosure) are large not only because of the sheer scale of them, but also because of the multiple levels and "dead" areas inside them, like the area by Spawn on Lazarus and Mercenary Park. The chances of an actual fight going down in those areas is ridiculously small, and people often opt to just set up by the first mercenary park point rather than closer to blu spawn. Honestly, while they're aesthetically beautiful, they're just plain useless and could be completely removed in favor of a longer respawn time.

You have quite a fatal flaw when converting kHu2 to mi2 and km2. You don't convert to the square, you just use the linear conversion. Actually 1 kHu2 = 0,00036 km2 = 0,00014 mi2. Same happens with mi2 to ft2 and km2 to m2. I thought 324 m2 is pretty darn small map, that's like the size of only two detached houses. Actually 1 kHu2 = 362,5 m2, and 18 kHu2 = 6525 m2. I'm not even starting with the square feet, trying to convert to one irrational unit (miles) was enough. Good thing you didn't do it to every map, that would have been useless and disinformative. Otherwise nice and interesting video ;)

@VaasMontenegro125 жыл бұрын
Perttu Ruuska actually his math is correct, are you trying to tell me that the average TF2 map is bigger than the maps in Fortnite? cause 6525 m2 would be 6.525 km2, and Fortnite maps are around 5 km2 so that they are HUGE so people have large areas to travel, hide and fight, TF2 maps are not that big, TF2 maps are not 1/10th the size of GTA V, I double checked the math, and if 1 hammer unit squared is equal to 1.904 cm2 then 1 khu2 = 1000 hu2, 1000x1.904 = 1904 cm2, 1904 / 100 = 19.04 m2, 19.04x18 (khu2) = 342.72 m2 or 0.34 km2
@patatepowa5 жыл бұрын
@@VaasMontenegro12 6525 m2 is 0.006525 km2, basically all your measurement forget to square up the conversion factors

So is one kHu^2 equivalent to the area of a square with side lengths of 1,000 Hu, or is it equivalent to the combined area of 1,000 squares each with a side length of 1 Hu? This video doesn’t properly convert square units and this data is meaningless without proper conversions
@michaele84443 жыл бұрын
I disagree. If you’re familiar with Hu as a measurement, maybe by using the Hammer Editor or something along those lines, then the numbers provided in the video make perfect sense. Just because you don’t understand the data doesn’t mean it’s useless.
