Watch before you comment. - The F6 is a suggestion, not an existing feature. - Difficult Learning Curves do NOT mean it's impossible to learn the basics of the game. It means the game is difficult to IMPROVE at. Don't misconstrue the idea that i'm saying the game is impossible to learn the basics of. - I'm not praising overwatch, i'm comparing what I think it does better and what it does worse. - I never said it's impossible to learn the game. I said it's unnecessarily difficult for the majority of unfamiliar players. - I'm not saying TF2's learning curve is one of the hardest in gaming, I'm saying it's harder than it should be for its genre. - It's not a dead game, it's a stagnant game with wasted potential. - Once again, i've played the game casually for 5 years, competitively for three and made videos for two. These are the opinions i've gathered over that timeframe. If you disagree, leave something constructive. I'm more than open to fair criticism. - Thank you for all the suggestions to delete my channel- I've decided not to for now.

@m0j0263 жыл бұрын
@@SirBalageG The thing is, not because something was made in the past means that it can't be fun, or a good experience. A bit of an extreme example, but think of old arcade games, like Pac-Man, or Space Invaders, or hell, even Pong. I got Pac-Man downloaded on my phone because it still holds up as a fun game. It's not immersive, and the graphics won't blow anyone's mind, but it's a nice time killer at the very least. TF2 holds up after all these years for a lot of reasons. The artstyle is timeless, better than "Ultra realistic USA soldier simulator No. 86". It also helps hide the polygons on the characters, meaning that even today the models don't look cheap or old. As someone new to the game, there is a lot of content to experience, despite the community starving for new things. And also, the whole trading thing isn't in most modern shooters other than CSGO, which is also made by Valve. These are just some of the reasons I think TF2 is still a great game, I don't really think it has been outclassed in all fronts by new shooters.

@jackmoseley49595 жыл бұрын
Valve needs to fix their game. Literally the most I knew of how to play tf2 before starting was from repeated viewings of Lazypurple’s “How it feels” vids. Frankly, MvM would be a better tutorial then what we actually have. Gameplay is different, but you have time to learn: “Okay, the robots like coming through here, so I’ll use this sentry gun my teammates told me about here!” BOOM, learned about chokepoints. “Hey, those guys are healing the big robot! Ima kill them with this sniper rifle” Suddenly, it was learned how to prioritise targets. “Uh oh, the bombs about to blow! Wait, Mouse 2?... HOLY $#%@ I HAVE A KNOCKBACK” Tada, basic pyro! That sounds good on paper, since the “Coach” system went out the window.

if valve just gave incentive to coach (maybe they add a system where you gain some kind of points that you can spend on cosmetics, and youd get more the better ratings you get?) and made the coaching system better, the learning curve would still be high, but if a new player knew what coaching was, it would be a lot easier if they made the changes i mentioned

It's rougher than 144fps, and it will occasionally be the reason you die, and the lower resolution hurts long range visibility, but it's still possible to have a great game and do well. @joe579003 do you recomend $60 trash instead?
@LaPoubelle428 жыл бұрын
joe579003 Thanks for the comment man, but a lot of the best game content ever created was put out there by their creators for the world to enjoy for free. TF2 was made by the legendary creators of Portal, Half Life, Counterstrike, Left 4 Dead, but suddenly because TF2 is free to play it is trash? Paladins was made by a much younger company who made SMITE and Global Agenda, but spend just 10 minutes in the game on high quality graphics and you will see the work they did on the game despite it being free to play. The price of a game doesn't necessarily indicate the effort put into making it, especially when you consider that addicting FPS's like these are still in many ways monotized (hats and such in TF2, skins in paladins) and with Paladins now hitting over 5 million players, Hi-Rez is making plenty of money to spend in improving their game to sustain this following. If Overwatch is your game then great, I have been a huge fan of Blizzard for well over a decade and they have done a great job with the game. Paladins just appeals a lot more to me, and it was certainly more readily available. Now I am hooked on the game and a few games of Overwatch weren't enough to convince me that it is worth spending the money on vs. just getting some sweet skins in Paladins. Cheers!

Alright, reading some of these comments I thought I might as well give my 2 cents on this. I've played the game for about 7 years and have 2.7k hours on it so I'm pretty sure I know what I'm talking about. A lot of people on here talking shit on Justyn's points, in my opinion, simply haven't played the game long enough to see some of its major flaws which can easily be overlooked. Just because the game is "old" doesn't mean it should be given free passes. The fact that tf2 does such a poor job at EDUCATING new players on how to play the game is part of the reason why it's on the decline right now. That and the fact that the new updates are so poorly put together that it's easy to lose interest in the game. At this point, the anger directed at tf2 is pretty well deserved. Competitive games are rarely balanced with almost always having someone that "shouldn't be playing comp". Simply put, tf2 doesn't do a good job at distinguishing between what new players SHOULD do so have a better transition in the game. That's why you rarely see good snipers/spies in casual. They're attractive classes to play for someone that's new to the game, sure, but the fact that there is so much complexity to the game that's not accurately relayed to players makes for oddly balanced games. Final note, yes i do think tf2 is a game with lost potential. They could have done so much more with it. Competitive should have been implemented years ago for example. With all this said, everyone needs to stop getting so TRIGGERED. it's just a game, if you love it, then love it. You shouldn't just talk shit on a video because you disagree with no points to back yourself up. If you truly loved the game, then you should realize that at this point, there are some deep rooted problems wit it and openly talk about it.

I agree with the video as well. I am new to the game and have been playing for only a month with about 90 hours of gameplay. It took me a lot of effort just to master the basics. Hell, I still don't know how to do single rocket jump and i keep killing myself. However, I am still interested and yes I literally watched a lot of the videos here on youtube to at least understand how the game works and still trying to improve. Right now, Valve it seems really trying their best to catch up because of their rivalry now with Overwatch. Paladins might even rival them as well once the open beta is finally finished.

I've never played a game before or since that made your hours feel like they were important. A player with 10 hours and a player with 600 hours shouldn't even be on the same level. I don't care if you think games should be friendlier to new players, experienced players shouldn't be made to feel like they lost to a "luck" factor. I'm looking at you random crits.

game is going down dude even FUCKING FOOTBALL MANAGER has more players and even a beta game pubg has more players than a game like tf2.tf2 needs updates that teaches actual team mechanics.i played mge so much because i didnt like teams.but i realized that i should be playing with teams and learn more and i started playing with teams after 1000 hours of not playing with teams.i tried to play with team do the thing that they didnt do.but nothing happened for a while after that i learned about playing with team when to play demoman,scout soldier medic or heavy but it TOOK 700 HOURS to learn it.it needs an update that teaches weapons in tf2 and what class' made for.like i had no idea what to play so i thought healing people and seeing what they are doing would help if i watch them.i did it and learned it but other players maybe doesnt even had a chance like that.i agree points that FUNKe made.and tf2 needs more programmers that will actually updates the game

The game HAD okay learning curve, before the actual updates came in. This game WAS fine to novice players, since it was only 9 classes showcased in trailers (and not having gone too far from TFC). But too keep it fresh and interesting for experienced players, VALVe started introducing new features: new aspects of the game like trading or crafting. New ways to play favourite class - new weapons, SETS that actually had a set buff. Everything was brought by an update that people, experienced in the game already, played and learned few new thing it brought. Update after update... 8 years later, updates stockpiled on each other, and we have this monstrosity. Some might find it fun though, because there is SO MUCH to learn!

As a new player, that's why I find it appealing. But it is frustrating to not have a central library of information in game. It takes some digging to truly understsnd some mechanics. It also sometimes feels like you never have learned enough to compete witg those who have played the game for years.

The main problem for me is that, also if you have 2000 hours, if you don't play it every month, you won't know how the game will be balanced. For example 2 years ago, scout was okay. Okay so I know tf2 has a huge learning curve (I noticed when trying to teach my friends) but when I was a noob, I never found myself angry at the learning curve, hell I was having a blast playing every class, unlocking every weapon, and finding out all the skills. One of my favorite things is being a better player, from the very beginning I was determined to be the best pyro I could be. And becoming a better pyro has been one of my most dearest gaming moments. Tl;dr life doesn't have a fucking Manuel and neither does this game, do what everyone else does and learn like a good boy like I did.
@TheMemeSheriff8 жыл бұрын
That's one of TF2s biggest strengths imo, it's a giant sandbox with no hand holding at all. It's all about learning the ropes. So FUNKe I understand what you mean by this video, and I can see why you think this. But you're forgetting why tf2 is so loved and why we have a good community, all the fuckheads who can't stand learning go to Overwatch.
@Raging-Lion8 жыл бұрын
OverworldTNTPig this is almost exactly me tbh, I'm don't feel like there's much to learn anyway tbh, knowing very little means I can have fun learning what there's I needed to now. things like the learning curve just seem like things only competitive gamers seem to care about, or people who've been playing a while. the only thing I think tf2 needs is to actually install when I try to play at the library, I hate getting that corrupt file error message >:v

also, I love how people apparently forgot that there's this thing called Google for things they now nothing about :v also KZbin, the thing this video is on.....v:

TF2 have one of the world's best filter against people with no game sense, rage-affiliated personality, and lack of interest to learn - which is its skill ceiling. But we can all agree that at the moment, TF2 needs a population boost, else it will gradually 'die' to the point where no one plays it anymore. We don't want that, do we?
@dream84618 жыл бұрын
OverworldTNTPig I think it's more about people seeing it as somewhat of a chore when a game has too many things to learn. Some people just want to hop into a new game after a tiring day, and can't be bothered to sit down and look up how things work. Sadly, easy to learn games such as the COD franchise, are one of the most popular, due to fun gameplay and it's really easy to pick up.

Idk. Just started the game and only played about 9 hours but I have plenty of fun even if I have no idea what I'm doing. I try new things for the hell of it, and enjoy it more. I've learned if my team doesn't have a medic, then maybe I should be a medic (albeit a bad one but a bad medic is better than no medic) I recently tried sniper and this game has made sniping fun for me. I'd just like to give my 2 cents on the subject... Doubtful that anyone will read it, in this big comments section, but oh well I only really got into TF2 in 2016. This is due to multiple reasons, the biggest of which probably being my bad internet connection before It took me a long time to learn the things that I now consider the basics. As said in the video, this can be do to the lack of help from the game... Let's take something like rocket jumping, arguably one of the most important things a soldier should be able to do. When I started playing, I played a bit of soldier... He felt useless to me. Slow move speed and a weapon that doesn't do the greatest damage meant I more or less just said "meh, soldier is not for me". I probably played more than 30 hours before I even knew that rocket jumping was a thing, and if I didn't happen to stumble onto a video on youtube, I never would've figured out that you have to crouch to do it I'm not saying every soldier needs to be a pro rocket jumper, but basic rocket jumps... Also, all the weapons. Because you don't have all the weapons at the start, you won't even know about most of them. Thus, you won't even know about things like demoknights or bowmen. Like... I read about demoknights, and how to be a good demoknight, when I didn't even have a shield There is really just so much to TF2 that makes it such a great game, but for someone who jumped into it in 2016, and I guess in the future, in 2017, they'll install it, give it a go, not understand a thing and uninstall it... Even those who give it a proper go, say 10 hours (I think 10 hours is a fair amount of time to at least form a basic opinion on a game), you won't have even scratched the surface of TF2... Fact is, it's old, it's F2P (we all know what F2P usually means on Steam), a lot of it isn't easily accessible to new players and you won't even know that you're not seeing the whole picture. You'll just see a bunch of relatively low quality, cartoony characters and will probably be playing with people who understand the game, thus not making it easy to get into... TF2 is definitely gonna have to do something if they want new players. A better tutorial, maybe an area you can play with weapons you don't own, versus bots or something... Just to tell new players "this isn't just some cartooney rubish that was good 10 years ago. If you just learn these few things, you will see the game it truly is" And I love that game. And I am sad to have gotten into this game while it is on a decline
@TiagoMendonca85917 жыл бұрын
Well said. I actually only learned how to rocket jump via KZbin tutorials. Rocket jumping is a big part of playing soldier and the game doesn't even teach you how to do it.

There IS a single-player mode where you play with bots. I mostly did that before I was confident enough to join a real server.

Exactly. I havent gotten into tf2 bc of this. I as a player shouldnt have to put in 100 hours of play time, 5 hours of youtube tutorials and 3 essays to understand whats going on. The impression i get is that most people playing tf2 now are people whove been playing for a long time. The community is insular and elitist. Not very inviting as a whole.

The thing that I did to get a decent foothold in the game was playing single-player. Y'know, with bots. I must've spent at least 100 hours with the bots before I ever joined a server. Start with easy mode, and believe me, bots on easy mode are nothing, so its a very fair challenge to new players. Then, work your way up though harder A.I. until you're ready to join a server. I rarely let my team down after that because at the very least I had a decent grasp on every class and what their roles are, and that's all you really need. You don't even need to be good, just competent. There was the odd elitist with 3000 hours that would mock me, but those people were few and far between and obviously had nothing better to do with their time than mock someone for being not awesome at TF2. Overall, just have fun and enjoy the game.
@jcdenton21876 жыл бұрын
The only real issue with bots is that they do become quite predictable and are really, really dumb. They do a lot of things actual players rarely do and never do a lot of things considered basic in TF2, like Rocket/Stickey jumping, spychecking correctly, and they only use stock weapons. Although I do imagine that helps newer players get a grip on the basics of TF2 like you said, so there is that. Does go to show that TF2 has miles worth of room for improvement all around. An actual training mode that covers more than 4 classes, tips that could be organized and shown on the loadout screen, bots that could actually do more complex moves and could use unlockables (as an option, though. Don't want to totally overwhelm a new player,) etc.

But that's what Valve does. They don't waste time on tutorials, they just throw you right in the action so you can learn it yourself. I personally like that a bit better. They did it with Half-Life and that's why it was so revolutionary and different than the rest at the time. No cutscenes or tutorials at all.

I just want to point out that TF2 has 84,000 online players right now as I type this, in April of 2022, the peak for today was 86,000. At 7:49 we can see that in 2016, when this video was posted, and was still getting weakly updates, it had a peak online player count of 55,000. Valve just does whatever the hell they want, and active player count means nothing.
