On the Steam Workshop there was a group I was a part of working to create a TF2 based table top game. It was awesome, we had some of the rules down and we were all really into it but we lacked the know-how to make it a reality. Part of me is still thinking about going back and starting over, because the concept is still really solid. That was probably my first introduction to game design - TF2 seems to have a way of inspiring that kind of creativity in people.
