You know what the axtinguisher is amazing for- finishing off demoknights. If a full heads eyelander demo with a chargin' targe or a splendid screen is charging you down, and you're running anything other than a shotgun in your secondary slot, the axtinguisher is the best way to finish them because of how fast it can do damage they can't resist. On top of this, it's hilariously fun to smack a heretic with.

The only reason why the old Axtinguisher was very powerful wasn’t because of the Degreaser or even the Axtinguisher itself but rather the old airblast since you can stun lock them in midair and get that easy kill. But now with the airblast and Axtinguisher changes, it’s now more fun and fair to play with and fight against.

cereal, he's right. The instant switch wasn't the issue, the issue was that enemies couldn't get away. Now that you push enemies away from you instead of holding them in the air for a second, the old version would probably work fine. Stun lock held enemies in the air more than long enough for you to switch to the axtinguisher no matter which primary you used.

I like the changes but TBF I think the Axtinguisher should have an additional role as a dedicated Demoknight counter melee. I.e. it should give resistance against sword attacks when deployed and reduce shield bash from full crit ramp up to minicrits only. Frankly I think all classes should have a melee option that balances them to make melee / medieval mode less focused on Demoknight cheese. Sword / bash resistance being a thing should be a part of that.

I think the post blue moon axtinguisher is great It feels fair to fight against and to use, but kinda has to be used with flareguns to get its full potential, but hey it doesnt take a year to take out and can do more than 133 damage (pre Blue moon). In my opinion pyro is not fun to play as (or against), but because I got the axtinguisher via random drop it made playing pyro so much more fun. But it shouldn’t be this way, you shouldn’t rely on unlocks to make a certain class fun, it should be fun from the start.

The mellee registration is garbage. You how when you hit someone you can hear the hit noise but not the damage hit noise and notice you did no damage? Yeah this glitch really fucks up the axtinguisher in the way that this partial hit doesn't deal any damage but the game registers it as a hit anyway and exitinguishes your target! So now when you try to hit burning players, the axe has a chance to remove the flames while doing zero damage. It's so stupid!

if it had another upside, yes. But right now, unless your facing an oblivious heavy and get a random crit, it's useless for its main purpose. You're better off just toasting both of them with your flamethrower (namely the phlog)

A lot of people don't find the play style engaging, though it's really down to personal preference. I for one know there's lots of stuff you can do with pyro, but it's no really stuff I want to do any more than anything else I could be doing with other classes, as such it's the least fun class for me hands down. I know a lot of people love pyro though.

Forgoten Null pyro has a lot of nice tricks you can learn that’ll make the experience better, one example is reflect jumping, it may not be the best of strategies, but it sure as hell is satisfying to do it and then get an Axtinguisher mini-crit on the soldier or demo that shot you
