I always carried for night work and a .38 is more manageable than a .357 and 9MM because of muzzle flash. Having cracked off a .357 at a group of attackers Im glad they shit themselves and ran off. Because I was blind and deaf immediately after the blast only they were more concerned about being holy in the moment. I was aiming to the right of them and it worked.

James, outstanding gun and video. My mom carried a S&W model 10, 4" until she passed at 80. She could shoot. She did not wilt like a daisy. I grew up in the revolver era. Even with arthritis in her hands later in life, she could work the gun. She could not do a semiauto. The people that poo poo the revolver, I say so what. If you can operate the revolver, you still have a gun. Let the complainers carry whatever they want. Go for it. My wife carries a 22LR 8 shot snub nose. Same issues. Yes, she can shoot. She is armed. Also, my wife WILL NOT carry a semiauto. All these negative critics need to go piss up a rope. They do not purchase the guns my family members use, the ammo, or pay for range trips. Until you are paying my bills, just talk among yourselves. Frankly, I don't give a damn what that crowd has to say.

Hi James. Thanks for reviewing this gun. I also own 2 other scandium guns, the 327 TRR8 and the 429 pd. I wasn’t interested in the 327 just because of the way that it looked and couldn’t imagine that with the short barrel that it would be very accurate. One day at my range we had a Smith & Wesson day. I made friends with the rep who carries this as his CCW firearm. He offered to let me shoot it and said that I would be surprised by its accuracy. I wasn’t that interested, but I thought why not give it a try. For my defense drills I shoot at mostly 7 to 10 yards. I fired a few practice shots to get a feel for the gun and was surprised how accurate the gun was. After that, at 10 yards I was able to shoot 3” groups at 10 yards fast drawing from a holster. I immediately fell in love with the gun and bought one after I was done shooting for the day. I was glad that the rep gave me the opportunity to shoot his gun. It totally changed my mind about how I thought the gun was going to perform. Had I not had the opportunity to shoot one, I would have never bought it. This is just my opinion but, I don’t mind if you show guns that are over a $1000 if, they are quality firearms that serve a special purpose and could possibly save your life. I hope that this video encourages people to try out guns that they may not necessarily like the looks of and are judging it just for that reason.

I keep saying it and probably will till the day I die. The ultimate conceal carry imo is the Ruger LCR in 327 Federal magnum! Beyond 9mm power, 6 shots, super light, easily concealable, one of the best super smooth double action triggers I’ve shot. Very comfortable recoil absorbing hogue grips. Totally reliable. The most flexible revolver as far as multiple calibers you can use.

I agree 100% the hammerless LCR 327 is the perfect backup gun if you ask me but a better primary gun would be if they chambered it in 327 Sig that way it could be used in a semi-automatic compact pistol with a ton of round capacity
@ronb8052

I agree with your assessment of the LCR.....I bought one for my wife...carries .38 hollow points....100% reliable....light enough to not rip your hand apart with .38's, but has enough potential to be a nasty beast with .357's....also no hammer to snag on my wife's purse or my polo shirt.....a perfect firearm.....no where near $1300.

@@PaulSter Depending on the revolver, this may be an issue with your gun, not your trigger hand. S&W's have supremely smooth triggers. Others can as well, I have a Taurus 605 Poly Protect and the trigger is sooooo smooth in double action that I can consistently actually stop the pull as the cylinder indexes and locks, but before the hammer drops and hold it while I steady the sight picture. It may help to look at doing an action job on your gun or getting a different one.
@PaulSter
@PaulSter 3 жыл бұрын
@@jg8263 roger that, but too many people, IMO, fire revolvers single fire. That does not prepare them for the real thing. Also, as we know, single fire can be very dangerous. My S&W revolvers have flawless triggers for my taste. But they get better with time. They need breaking in. Your hand/forearm also need strength training. Whether that comes from the gym, the range, dry firing, etc., it doesn't matter. Edit: My wife and I can both index the trigger on our revolvers. She learned it faster than me. 🤠

This is primarily why back in black powder days, they simply put stupidly heavy bullets into long straight-wall cartridges. If velocity is limited, just add bullet. A ship doesn't have to travel fast to tear up an entire harbor before it stops.

Eight rounds of .357 Magnum is very impressive! The problem is all this time I thought my Ruger revolver in .45 Auto/.45 Colt with its 4.2-inch barrel was the best carry option. It retailed at $1,027 but I purchased mine for $850 (don't hate me for it)! James, I agree with you for once, the 327 needs a longer barrel. My preference would be a 4-incher. I used to bring swatches, brush and some solvent to the range so I could swap out the chambers after shooting a couple boxes of 38s. Then put at least 6 hot 357s through the gun to help clear the lead out (back in the day all 38 spcls were lead) and also to get the feel of the magnum rounds. To this day I love shooting revolvers. I only shoot auto-loaders to keep my hand in because I usually carry one. But it is like homework...Only because I have to. I love how wheelguns feel, their recoil, and just the fun of them.

Another advantage of moon clips is it helps ejection. The weight of the clipped shells is greater than a single shell. This along with the rigidity of the clip helps push all the rounds out together. There's also no chance of an empty getting caught under the ejector star.

I am currently teaching my niece who weighs all of 85 lbs to shoot. I always found the “revolvers are easier to load for smaller people” argument negated by the fact that most revolvers have 12 lb. DA pulls and excessively long trigger reach. Even with a K frame my niece finds it physically impossible to pull the trigger without rolling her shooting hand forward to the point that it her thumb is barely hanging on for dear life. What we ended up doing was having her pull the trigger with her support hand instead. While suboptimal since it precludes the use of the gun one-handed, at least she can make hits now. We’re trying a S&W Shield EZ9 and Ruger LCR next to see if she can likes those better

UPDATE: I would like you to put up the 3" 6 shot Taurus 856 Defender against that Smith. Here are the highlights, Stainless Steel or alloy frame, a 6 shot J Frame size frame rated for +P, 3" barrel, 2 grips included - a boot grip and a longer birds head grip, Night Sights, smooth 6lb DA trigger, very accurate and $350-$400. A perfect first revolver for CCW for that "Revolver Guy". (like me) Cheap, reliable, good stopping power and velocity with the 3" barrel, also an excellent night stand gun especially for someone that goes to the range once or twice a year and the cost of entry won't break the bank. Most civilian encounters are 1-3 rounds fired, easy CCW, manageable recoil, affordable and a quality build. I have over 2000 rounds of +P thru mine now, lockup is still tight and the trigger is now smooth as glass and pulls right at 5 lbs. What's not to like.
@vphls
@vphls 3 жыл бұрын
2 decades or more people were telling me how 9mm didn't have the stopping power of .45 or .357, but I reloaded and loaded hot 9mm that knew could compete. Though I like pistols for slim size and I can shoot accurately enough at close range, I would have no hesitation shooting my .357 revolvers at distances of 50 yds and hitting a clay pigeon and taking more critical shots at closer ranges - I just have extreme confidence in hitting things with a revolver because of the fixed barrel, though my min is a 4" barrel.

This is a great video and fantastic revolver. S&W should produce the same revolver w/3.25" barrel. Better ballistics, easier to point and shoot, and the added barrel length will not have any appreciable bearing on weight or concealability. The frame / cylinder width and grip have much more impact on concealment, than adding 1 - 2" to the barrel. Otherwise, great choice

As an older man with arthritis, this is looking good for home defense, loaded with 38 Special +P. His reaction to the recoil, "that's nothing" sounds great. 8 rounds, fairly small size, a little lighter than Glock 19, and the reliability and simplicity of a revolver. Also, I'm new to guns and don't want to spend a lot of time training with it. The odds of actually needing it for self-defense is small, and there are just other things I want to do with my life. I just want to be prepared to have a fighting chance if the worst happens some day. So, would practice enough to get a good feel for it and be comfortable with it. As for the short ejector, maybe if you keep it loaded on a moon clip, that would make it easier to get all of the shells out. As for the price, S&W currently lists it at $1500 (bleeping) dollars. Internet retail, pretty close to that ($1470). So, up by 15% in 2 years, and even less discounting by retailers.

I agree with most of what you say, so here is the story of my experience and a primary reason for choosing a six-shooter as my leading defense gun. My reasoning is my own, and I don't make any claims other than what is here. I have a Ruger Security Six stainless 357 Mag, 2.78 inch Barrell. I was shooting it to compare native characteristics and accuracy, with my 45 ACP, a 9mm CZ, a Walthers PPKs, and a couple of generally well-known auto's, and my Security Six. in 'MY' hand. I say in MY hand, as we have different body types, musculature, weight, strength, hand size, height, arm length, how we grip, control, etc. Body structure can affect our shooting form/accuracy, and the way our body structure responds to recoil to a degree will vary. So here is my simple reason for putting my six-shooter at the top. To begin, the Security Six, has a dense stainless frame, weighing just over 2 lbs. (33.5 oz). They stopped making it because it was too expensive to manufacture, so they replaced it with the GP 100. I've never shot that one, but I didn't like the balance when I held it. Shooting the Security Six using .38 ammo, I felt almost no recoil. With +P, a little, with full mag, 158 gr, the bang was substantial. But accurate, as compared to my Autoloaders, especially the long slide. The slide coming back seems to have a bit of muzzle climb. To a greater or lesser degree, the shots were in the kill zone, with most of the autos. But the way the Six handled recoil for me was much easier to stay on the sight picture. It came straight back into my wrist, with no upward throw. The elimination of the throw of the slide gave me less to deal with and a more accurate shot. Next, I put focus on the rather stiff trigger pull. When we pull a double-action trigger, for some, or many, as the hand flexes, if not well controlled, it can move the muzzle a bit. So I set out and developed my trigger pull to have no lateral influence as I pull the full travel of the double-action trigger. On that day, I outshot my autos, using double action with as fast a following shot as possible. My Security Six fits my hand and is totally comfortable over most autoloaders. I would trust any of them, but the accuracy of the first shot is critical. In that, for whatever reason, the wheel gun is better for me. I hear what you say: We are all different in terms of what affects our shooting.
