Living in FL I pocket carry a lot during the summer. LCP II is usually what I go to. I also have a LCP Max but there is a noticeable weight difference when its in something like swim trunks or exercise shorts. As a side note a couple of years ago I was hit my a truck at 60ish mph while on my motorcycle with a LCP II in my pocket in a sticky holster and it did not go off. My pelvis broke in 3 places along with 14 other bones so it definitely took an impact. Took it to the range a few months later after being able to walk again and put two boxes of ammo through it with no problems. I don't know if I would call that drop tested but I feel comfortable with it in my pocket in a pocket holster.

I carried the Sig P938 for years, until I badly tore my right rotator cuff. I then switched to the Sig P365 w/ external safety, and have never looked back. Tritium night sights are standard on both models. 9mm on both. No reason to compromise. I can hit clay pigeon targets at 25 yards if needed. A great everyday carry option, even though I sometimes carry a full-size sidearm as well. To me, trigger quality, sights, and recoil are all significant factors, and I really like both of these Sigs for that reason, especially the P365. Incidentally, I had never carried or shot southpaw, but was able to do this effectively with the P365, when I had no use of my right arm/hand.

These are the most efficient guns, but they're a handful. These picks are excellent for experienced shooters who can handle the recoil. For less recoil, pick guns that are a little larger or shoot a less powerful cartridge. For the size and weight of the Kel-Tec P-380 without the heavy recoil, consider the Kel-Tec P-32. Instead of the S&W AirLite .38/.357, there's a (unfortunately discontinued) .32 H&R Magnum that's almost identical in construction (but holds an extra round in the cylinder). And when the LCP Max is too snappy, there's the Sig P365-380. Much easier to shoot while still pocket/microcompact size.

I think the inclusion of the G42 covers accessibility while still being petite. When I was starting shooting handguns around a decade ago, I jumped straight into range rental compact carry firearms (like an idiot) and the learning curve was incredibly steep. I couldn't hit shit with the LCPs, sw shields, p238s, etc. After cycling through the rental cabinet I landed on the fancy new pocket Glock and within 3 mags was punching a ragged hole whereas with the others I was struggling to stay on paper at all. I purchased a 42 almost immediately after and have used it as a teaching tool for girlfriends and family who I've taken shooting ever since.
@samadams8355 Жыл бұрын
@@FriENTlyFire sometimes I think it's better not to mess around with tiny subcompacts if you're a new shooter. Full sized or compact pistols are so much more forgiving, whereas a subcompact will increase any slight issues you might have with grip or trigger control. Plus, they can be painful to shoot. People ought to have a good time shooting so they'll keep going to the range and practicing.

That Bond Arms Bullpup is no joke (watch a video on how it cycles - it'll blow your mind) but runs about $1100 new. There are a lot of mil-surp guns that are great for EDC. One of my EDC favorites is my Radom P-64 (9x18 Makarov). Comes pre-melted from the factory, is lightweight and the capacity is 6 plus 1. 9x18 Makarov being, of course, the Commie .380 ACP. Another excellent and entertaining video from James. He was seemingly born for this. My two go-to’s for daily carry are the Ruger LCP Max and Ruger LCP (original). Though they’re both very small for guns, the original feels decidedly slimmer than the Max, but only holds 6 instead of 10 rounds (plus 1 in the chamber). I love my Sig P365 but I really don’t consider it a pocket gun. Compared to the two Rugers, it’s bigger, thicker, and heavier. It’s awesome, but I usually end up leaving it at home. I also love my Glock 42 (it’s probably my favorite) but it’s also just slightly too big for my pant pockets. When I carry it in my back jeans pocket (in a pocket holster), the top sticks out just a bit. Since I want my EDC to be both comfortable AND comforting, I almost always go with the smaller choice. I make exceptions and go with something bigger when I venture out of my safe little town. I would add that probably my other “favorite” small gun is the Ruger LCR snub-nosed revolver chambered in 38 special, but how the heck am I supposed to fit that in my pant pocket. So that favorite gun usually stays at home too. These are the things I spend my downtime thinking about.

At the upper end in size among my pocket-class guns (of those I carry, at least) is my Kel-Tec PF9, purchased in 2010. At three ounces lighter than the CM9, it's downright rude in hand, but easily manageable in determined hands, especially with 115-grain ammunition. At the other end is the gun I bought the next year for deep concealment, the P32. I went with Kel-Tec's .32 over their .380 for the lighter and faster handling, the higher capacity, and the slidelock. Every time I handle this little gun, I'm still impressed with both what it is and what it started. With Kel-Tec's optional ten-round magazine along, I have eighteen rounds available for a gun that barely outweighs a loaded 1911 mag. The "happy medium" in my pocket-class selections is the Ruger LCP-MAX. Some of my pockets accommodate it easily even with the optional 12-round magazine, though the bigger magazine and two more rounds in capacity do add to its weight. We appear to be in agreement that this gun is pretty much the logical go-to for pocket carry. I usually carry a bigger gun on my belt and one of these in a pocket, but I want to ditch the belt gun entirely and go to tucked-in shirts again. Should that happen, I might be rocking the Ruger strong side and the little Kel-Tec as a BUG. I've also frequently slipped a North American Arms .22LR revolver in my jeans watch pocket and slid the belt holster for my cellphone over it. With the butt of the gun turned to my left (I'm left-handed.), it conceals very easily, but is still readily accessible. Thanks for sharing.

I got the LCP max when it first came out, probably because you recommended it. It started rusting soon after. Lots of cleaning and oiling kept it at bay. But the thing that made me switch it was I hated shooting it. It pinched my hand and had recoil like my 44 mag. I sold it and bought a kimber micro 380 and haven’t looked back. I gave up 3 rounds but have a gun I love to shoot and isn’t rusting. Some say it’s not reliable but I’ve not had a malfunction and carry it every day.

Ruger will replace the slide, barrel and recoil assembly of LCP's that rust. I followed recommendations of others owner and put Hogue LCPII grip sleeve on it to prevent it from hurting my hand and I trimmed off the sharp edges on the trigger and trigger safety which eliminate most of the pinching that was hurting my trigger finger. Ruger need to fix their black oxide finish processing to eliminate rust issue.

There are a couple I think often-unforeseen downsides to the LCPMax, which I discovered only after purchase. First, it's overall dimensions are extremely similar to the P365. Yeah the slide's thinner, but the handle is just as thick. Second, you're carrying extra rounds yes, but those extra rounds have weight. Combined with the larger grip and it ends up swinging around more than what I really wanted. I actually bought it for both pocket and ankle/band carry, but as an ankle carry it's noticeably-larger grips causes it to stick out noticeably from my ankle. I'm an extremely-average size dude (5'8", 145 lbs), so for larger people maybe this isn't an issue. For me at least though, I'm gonna end up going to Bass Pro at some point and swapping it for an LCPII instead. Which sucks because the Max is an absolutely excellent pistol, but when I put 2 and 2 together regarding it's size and characteristics, I realized it was essentially redundant for me given I already own a 365. Just some food for thought.

James, go back and watch your own video of the Kahr 380. Guess what? I bought one then after watching it. Fell in love with it.rated for Plus P or hot ammo rated. And shoots every thing so mild. The Kahr is so much lighter than the Glock. So much smaller for the pocket. The Kahr rules. Forget the LCP's. If you shot them enough you would know they do not hold up long. Throw away guns. Sorry, James, you had it right the first time with the Kahr. James, weight matters. Huge difference in 10oz vs 18.

I owned an LCP and it didn’t hold up. But I bought an LCP Max based on all the reviews and initially loved it. But I actually shoot my guns a lot and you’re right, they don’t hold up. I’d say ~1200-1500 rounds and it started malfunctioning. My trigger bar actually disconnects under rapid fire bc the lower is SO thin it isn’t strong enough. I keep going back to my PD340…

It's a shame the Beretta Pico was discontinued. It was such an underrated gun. It was light, slim, and most importantly, it was a true DAO with restrike. I like my carry guns dead simple with heavy DAO triggers because I've experienced the loss of control that adrenaline brings.

My pocket .380 is the updated version of the Pico. It is a high quality pistol.

I agree. It's my pocket carry. Very soft shooting for such a tiny gun. Very reliable and high quality.

They're great handguns, but god are they ugly as sin lol

The Beretta Pico is ounce for ounce one of the best firearms made. Stainless steel through out the gun, modular design, best sights in class, so frigging to work on, change out parts, so thin and easy to carry. Magazines all stainless steel including the follower, look like custom 1911 mags. And one of the few small 380's to actually be rated as Plus P or HOT ammo which it shoots better than many guns that shoot standard ammo. Built like a tank. It will keep on going when other gun in the same size bite the dust. Just run and run and run. What James fails to understand is that Pocket guns are a art in self defense. He should take a class. Someone skilled with one can do wonders with them that you do not see on the internet.

The launch of that thing was a disaster, and it aesthetically turned off 95% of the people I’d show it to. I just hated the feel and ergos compared to some of its competitors.

Keltec P32 - lightest center fire semi auto ever, 8 rounds of easily controlled and pleasant to shoot .30 caliber slugs. So small and so light it will travel well in any pocket - leaving enough space for a large hand to actually get a decent grip on the pistol while inside the pocket.

The best Kel Tec ever.

I’ve carried a beretta 21a in .22lr for 29 years. Bought it as a on duty back up gun in 1994. Looking to replace it now that I’ve retired because it has a huge amount of sentimental value and I want a little more UUMPH than a .22lr gives. Great video thanks.

Hey, just wanted your opinion on the DB380. I was thinking it would be a good budget option for this category and the new Gen 4 seemed to address a lot of the problems it had in earlier versions.
