Do you ever find it challenging to get your clients to actually use their glute medius when you are working on glute medius exercises? It can be a problem, especially when the TFL wants to take over!
The TFL has a tendency to take control if the pelvis is in more of an anterior tilt.
Give this trick a try if you’re working with someone who has an overactive TFL. Bringing in those hamstrings can be a game changer to help get that glute medius firing.

I use this tip during side-lying clamshell-type movements and it works in this application too. I hadn't thought about using it on the wall, thank you!

Thanks for sharing this! I have a very overactive tfl & am trying everything bc it is very painful & setting my whole body off. Just a quick question about the hamstrings in the exercise, are we to focus on engaging them when our feet are on the wall? I can’t seem to find where you specifically mention. And do we press our heels in? Thank you!

Try pulling your feet down to get hamstrings! You shouldn't need to press your feet in.

Thank you when you say pulling down with the heels does that mean truly pulling toward the edge of the chair rather than just pushing the heels in to the chair. I would love to try this just not sure of the correct technique.

You want to pull down on the chair/pushing heels into the chair.

So hard to know without seeing you - I would find an ortho PT to see you in person.
