My perspective on blue cruise/self driving etc. You’re paying a premium to have a car do what you’re capable of doing all while not being able to used the time saved of “not driving” to accomplish other tasks as you’re still required to watch the road in front of you and place hands on the wheel. Literally paying for an option to do what you still technically have to do, while not gaining any freedom from it doing it
@CoolTatts4 ай бұрын
Can't speak for BlueCruise, but Ford CoPilot360 literally saved my life when an 18-wheeler abruptly changed lanes as the driver dozed off. I was passing, and the car immediately slammed on the breaks. The side sensors detected the truck beside me, swerving into the lane before I did. Then, the car settled behind the truck and came back up to speed. I passed the trucker who waved an apology. I know I would have been hit and pushed or ricocheted into the grass median. At 120km/hr, I would have rolled. I won't buy a car again without making sure this feature is added.
@nothingtoseaheardammit4 ай бұрын
@@CoolTatts So let me get this straight... you think you were incapable of slamming on the brakes yourself when an 18 wheeler started veering into your lane? Having been in that situation a handful of times myself, I can say - I can. On the other hand, I haven't randomly slammed on the brakes because of some phantom computing glitch, like so many of these systems have demonstrated that they're capable of doing (the pileup in the San Francisco tunnel when a Tesla slammed on its brakes when it entered the tunnel is an example that comes to mind). Remember, that machine has absolutely no sense of self-preservation whatsoever.

@@garysarratt1 a software update 5-6 years when the laws deem the capability is safe enough to release them from liability? No chance. Or the insurance costs are going to sky rocket. Nah, even regular lane keep assist does wonders to relieve fatigue during long drives. I'm personally never making the 7 hour trip between Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Berlin, Maryland without some sort of good driver assistance again, even if it means using the smaller car. Just did the trip last week and the difference between how I felt when I arrived VS how I felt last time we made the trip in our older vehicle was quite literally night and day. And that was just the standard Lane Keep Assist on my wifes Hyundai coupled with basic cruise control. Something like Supercruise or Blue Cruise could really turn a long stressful drive into something almost enjoyable. EDIT: I would like to add that I generally enjoy driving, but there is just nothing enjoyable about making hundreds of microadjustments as I keep the car centered in its lane on a huge multilane interstate.
@Calibr214 ай бұрын
It’s actually pretty great in practice. Hands free is actually a lot more relaxing than worrying about keeping your hands on the wheel. Maybe not seem that way on paper, but when you try it there’s a big difference.

Have you looked at how expensive Tahoes and Expeditions are now? They're even more rediculous. But the manufacturers have no reason to change because people keep buying them. Also, I'm sympathetic to your coworker, but their experience likely isn't representative. The 2.7L Ecoboost is one of the most reliable engines Ford has ever built. The 2.3L isn't bad either, but 2025 is the first model-year for a mostly-new version of it, so maybe hold off until 2026 for that.

@@rightwingsafetysquad9872yes I have looked. A gently used one is about the same price as one of these new - I even saw some used for about $30k with under 50,000 miles. Also, just a few months later my wife and I had a 1.6L EcoBoost in her Escape start to have turbo issues at 140,000 miles. So I'm a bit leery of any motor with a turbo now.
