I have an '87 Montero which looks very similar to this, but is in near perfect condition. Found it in Pahrump, NV, now it lives in California. Just did my first offroad adventure with it and it kept up with a bunch of crazy Jeeps no problem. Adding a rear air-lock, larger tires, bigger lift and a winch. Mine is a 5-speed. I had a 2021 Bronco 2-door on order, but cancelled it when I found this Mitsubishi! No regrets!

Having owned over ten of these, I'd opt for a front selectable locker first. The rear helps, too. Luso has them, do a search. "Lunchbox" lockers are kind of a handful. Body lifts on these look and work great, unlike other makes/models, and it's near impossible to get real lift out of the torsion bar front IFS. Don't go real tall or wide on tires with a four cylinder. You think it's slow now? Haha.

There is debate about if they use the same forged cranks but the starion blocks had oil squirters for the cyl walls and the truck blocks didnt. That swap will wake up the old ones
@JohnnyBfromPeoria Жыл бұрын
My 87 with an 88 Starion engine is sitting ten feet away from me right now. Crank is forged and nitrided, stock. The 88 Starion with an intercooler was factory rated at 183 hp, redline 6K and 225 lb-ft@ 2500 rpm. The torque number makes it a great match for the four speed auto in the Montero/Raider.

My 1st Gen Montero with the 4 cylinder had absolutely no power off-road or highway. I was on I-84 in a blizzard returning from a ski trip with a pair of skis on a rooptop ski rack. I had bought the Montero to replace my old FJ40. Big mistake.

What are the "Dodge idiosyncrasies" or whatever was said in the video description? Why not show the winch? 🤣😂🤣😂🤣 The rear suspension is a Mk1 V6 thing. Not just a "Dodge Raider". I just can't with this channel. And the talkers Mk3. Great big heavy V6? They are the same motor family. 6G72 in the Raider vs a 6G74 or 6G75 in the Mk3. And when does the power of the AUTOHUBS (8:47) kick in? I'm tempted to find some autohubs for the extra power they must give. Speaking without thinking? Speaking to hear words without making sense?👎👎👎 on this channel. Just because you can make KZbin videos, doesn't mean you should.
