The most basic one, the Land Cruiser 1958 cost $57,345, fabric interior and as plain as you can get it. I'm having a hard time swallowing nearly $60k for a I4 turbo with all black basic cloth interior at that price. That's before dealer mark ups.

@er7 The muppets was a good show. As someone that's driven pretty much every version of a LC since the late 70s, and done so in Africa, the Prado does not share the heritage of the Land Cruiser in the true sense of the name. The new Prado, although sharing frame architecture with other Toyota platforms, in the same way that the new Tacoma shares the architecture with the new Tundra, does not make it worthy of the LC name. Unfortunately this now also applies to the shameful excuse that is the LC300. After all these years, the last remaining Land Cruiser is the 70 series, still sold in certain markets. For everything else, the Land Cruiser name is being used as a marketing scheme by Toyota, at great harm to the heritage of that name plate. Obviously, we don't have to agree on this.

@@thomas735 Higher profit margins on the more expensive trims to from a corporate standpoint it makes sense even though it sucks for the consumer. I'm just waiting to try out this new LC and the 6th gen 4Runner before I decide whether to go with the Bronco or not. I used to have a 2006 Range Rover I bought CPO in 2007 and ran that for 12 years with surprisingly good reliability after 135,000 miles. Outlasted both an 08 Pathfinder and 05 Sorento that I also ran during that time. Currently in a Mini Cooper S but wanted a proper 4x4 SUV as a second vehicle. There's already two Broncos in my family and they've been pretty solid which is why I am interested in getting one of my own but I am not a brand loyalty type of person and these Toyotas certainly piqued my interest. Custom ordering from Ford is better than buying off the lot as neither Bronco in my family cost more than MSRP or paid any dealer fees, just sales tax and tag. I suspect those you mentioned will stay on the lot until dealers start offering more incentives now that supply is starting to match demand.

@@xm3ntal620 I think the issue is 25mpg isn't bad, but it is just meh/okay; I feel like these 4cylinder engines aren't really worth the effort. I am not seeing the massive gains in mpg based on all these upcoming 4cylinder engines. My 2020 ram 1500 from 4 years ago gets over 25mpgs highway (diesel) and that is a V6 3L (I can get 26mpg or 27mpg in the real world on highway with offroad tires and a lift). That is also with a rooftop tent above the bed. The smaller Land Cruiser can't beat that with a 4cylinder 2.4L and 25mpg is probably like perfect conditions. Real world, highway, for the Land Cruiser (stock) is going to be closer to 22mpg, I am guessing. After you add wheels, lift, and tires, the highway mpg is going to be below 20. That doesn't include adding tents, and gear, etc.
@xm3ntal620
@xm3ntal620 7 ай бұрын
@@keith9388 how can you compare a diesel to a gas car? 25 mpg for a SUV that size is EXCELLENT with 465 ft lbs of tq. Problem with diesel is that they require expensive/complicated emissions related systems to keep them running clean. I'm sure you know about the 2 billion dollar fine for Cummins diesel defeat devices from OEM. Also the engine you speak of has huge reliability issues. The main bearing oil holes are too small and get clogged up by diesel soot and die a premature death. Everything has its tradeoffs. I think we can expect extreme reliability from Toyota and the NiMH battery under the rear seat is designed to be replaced easily for not a lot of money. They have been testing these hybrid systems for almost 2 decades now.

I think the best one is the middle trim and no options except maybe moonroof. That puts it at $63Kish. Gets you all the off-road mechanical features. It gets you the middle sound system and upgraded infotainment screens. And versus the GX 550... well the Land Cruiser is significantly more fuel efficient 23MPG combined vs 17 MPG of the GX 550. You're saving roughly $6K up front and then $700ish each year. You get the 2400W inverter for camping too. Personally I think both models together you can basically pick exactly how fancy or efficient you want. Personally I do not need, or even want, the "Convenience package" features in my off-road vehicle. The price of the First Edition literally doesn't matter. Its a limited run and basically if you didn't already reserve a spot with a dealer you won't get it for MSRP anyway.

FIRST OF ALL, what happened to the nice tweed fabric seats we saw in the pre-production 1958 Tommy did a first look video on? That is a bummer! I kind of like some things about it but overall I'm sort of disappointed by it. The smaller engine ( I don't understand why they didn't put the GX 550 engine in it) and the 8 inches of ground clearance are pretty uninspiring (Subaru's have more than that). These things, and the price, make me want to wait to see what they do with the new 4Runner. I suppose that parts for a Lexus will cost more, as will insurance and registration...so I guess there is that argument, but most people spending that kind of money are probably a little indifferent on that at that point.

If only Australia could get the 4Runner, it would be a killer here ... but we only get the 300 series and this Prado coming but with old 2.8L Diesel powertrain and lack of 4x4 capabilities unless you're in the top spec. Toyota is crazy to be charging this ...

This makes the Lexus GX Premium+ look like the way to go for 90% of people. Most buyers don't need the rear locker and the GX has pretty much everything else except the 2400w inverter. Mileage isn't great on the GX. But if you're spending $70k on a vehicle like this, you can probably afford the extra $500 a year in gas.

Cool, but sadly Too much, I was trying to wait for these, but we ended up buying a new Tacoma end of 23. I’m glad we did. $46k was too much let alone another $15k, I’ll keep our old GX470. Just did the second timing kit at 280k, still runs like a sewing machine.

Spec'd a Land Cruiser trim to how I liked and was just over 68k, at that point I'd much rather have the v6 tt, with similar options and accessories, and nicer interior by Lexus for 2k more.

Is it 8,000 or 9,000 towing capacity for the GX 550? Their website still says 8,000 lbs. The 9,000 lbs. was leaked to Roman a few weeks ago but you'd think Lexus would've updated their website by now.

Guys I think its wrong to compare it with the outgoing model LC. That was a much bigger vehicle and definitely has no comparison with this new Land Cruiser Parado whatsoever. I fail to understand why everyone in North America is pretending that it has anything to do with the previous LC model, it does not. If you want to compare it then please compare it with LC Prado

Hopefully the next Fourunner will be available with NON hybrid drivetrain with traditional 4x4 NOT AWD, like the Tacoma AND be at least 10K less! Plus the styling really needs to be better than this last Gen. You know all the things we wanted this LC to have we aren't going to get.

I went to Toyota’s website and found the Land Cruiser build option under SUV/Crossover. I was able to build out all three trims too and use my back button. I was doing it at 9:30am Hawai’i time Sunday February 25, 2024 though so maybe they fixed it from the time you guys shot your video.

I get it, prices are going up and never realistically coming back down. But why bother releasing LC at all with the new 4Runner and Lexus being the same thing at price points in the same ball park? Maybe a base 4Runner or TRD Off-road are likely to be cheaper, but Pros are going to be over 60k.

Once I get to 65,000 I’m going gx550. And if I get to 70k I’m going premium plus gx550. Better towing and three rows. I think it was a huge mistake to make the overtrail gx with two rows of seating only.

I really wish the premium car brands didn't tune their engines to require premium ($$) gas for the small gain in performance. At almost a dollar more a gallon it just doesn't seem worth it.

Too expensive... Think I'll just stick with my Gen 1 Raptor. Thing drinks gas like its for free but the off road capabilities, leather and heated seats, premium sound system and few mods kinda makes it worth keeping. Picked it up used for 24k almost 5 years ago... Now trucks are outlandishly expensive... Here i thought 41k (3k over msrp) for the wife's AWD telluride was insane. What the hell is happening with car prices?

Great channel - I really enjoy the Toyota content and the depth of your reporting and comradery with all the folks you associate with. I always come away learning something. My question is what is the "duty cycle" of the new land cruiser? I was fortunate enough to own and enjoy a 1997 80 series Land Cruiser for 14 years. I sold it in 2021 and bought a 2021 4Runner TRD Offroad Premium. My understanding is that Toyota designed the 80 series to have a duty cycle (or life expectancy) of 25 years. Mine was 24 years old when I sent it off to an enthusiastic new owner and was in great condition for it's age with zero mechanical issues. It will be interesting to see how well the '24 Land Cruiser holds up. My sense is that it won't approach the 80's duty cycle. How is your 80 holding up ? I'm glad to see it on your channel from time to time ;
