I own 2 of these 3. A 4.4 V8 LR3 with 280k miles on it. Its my daily driver/light duty offroader. Stock with only 32" AT tires and an interior build out with a fridge, water, dual battery system. I also have a 2001 D2 with 240k miles on it, running 35s 4:11 gears, bumpers, etc.. The D2 has lockers so its my go to for the harder stuff, but still has no problem cruising at 70mph down the highway. 20yrs later and its NEVER left me stranded. Its not perfect, but its definitely not as bad as people think.

The electronics should lock the torque converter up in low, so if you select low 1st gear, you should have had lots of engine braking. If you left it in D or where in high range, then you will not get the engine braking.

Sold our 130 tipper in 2021 250k miles later of hard work, he sold it for the same price he bought it. Had it for 22 years. Nothing comes close, landys are fckn workhorses. Love that you guys epitomized the two kinds of off roaders I've seen over 20 yrs: the momentum/throttle crowd vs. the technical/line crowd. Both are correct depending on the situation. PS you guys never air down enough for me on any of your videos and, as you discovered as we did on the LR4: the rock crawl mode is for most any true off road situation. Sand just adds throttle and higher shifts, snow just slows everything down (nanny inexperienced snow driver mode for "developing drivers")

I was told by a Landrover instructor at Eastnor Castle ( Landrover off road test ground in the UK ) that terrain response was invented for the Freelander 1 so that the smallest Landrover could still go where the other models could go in 1997 , the Disco 3 wasn’t launched until 2004
@StephenFogarty202310 ай бұрын
Freelander 1 did NOT have Terrain Response. Freelander 1 did debut HDC in 1997 Disco 3 was the first LR with Terrain Response. A standard Freelander 1 doesn’t have as much ground clearance as a Disco or RR, and this definitely limits its off road capability.

I have owned Nissan, BMW, MB, Jeep, Ford, Chevy/GMC, Honda, VW, and they have all had serious issues, LR brand is better than all. For Japanese fans my VW has an Aisin transmission that slips and high revs > 105F which is 5 months of the year in Phoenix, the German made parts are still good 14 years later. .
