When talking about the DCT you didn't mention a very important difference vs most CVT's- Engine braking. Going down steep mountain trails in the new RZR was terrifying with no engine braking, and their version of 'smart 4wd' that disengages when 'not needed' causing the rear end to be fish-tailing the whole way down the hill. Why Polaris hasn't mimicked Yamaha's CVT is beyond me.. I don't like CVT's, but a few tweaks would make me more likely to own one. I have a Honda pioneer presently. Wonder If the so called i-4wd on the Talon will keep all four wheels turning the same speed down steep trails when using just the engine braking like a locked diff and transfer case do. I expect the Talon will be Honda reliable, but several thousand dollars more for a machine that is out performed by virtually all the competitors machines right out of the box just doesn't make sense. They will never get a real chunk of the market with their apparent mentality. IMHO.
@dalezesiger98735 жыл бұрын
You are right. Polaris should have done something about that crappy CVT long ago. However, I would like to point out the Duraclutch system. You can google it and find quite a bit of info. I pulled the trigger on one this past May. We live and ride on steep rugged, very rocky trails. This Duraclutch is unreal. It works more like the Yamaha system, only better. Incredible pulling power, excellent engine braking. It was stupid expensive, but it has turned my XP 1000 into a different machine. It is a beast!

Good Day, I just recently ( 6 days ago ) purchased the 2021 Honda TalonX as i live in Canada. I have been on some rough mountain trails since getting it and i can tell you first hand that with the engine braking and the I-4wd does an amazing job. You keep the machine in first or second, take you foot off the brake and there were even times where i had to use the fuel pedal because the engine braking and low gear would almost slow me down too much. I have had some learning to do when going uphill. The machine tends to buck but thats partly my fault and also the machines fault. Will take some time to get used to it. Its an amazing machine and wish i was a good KZbinr to be able to show you videos of it. I highly recommend the Honda Talon.

Just curious -- on a sport side by side, what would you put into the rear storage bed that wouldn't be secured by straps? If the Talon had a higher back in the bed, how would that be a benefit if whatever is back there is tied down? If the straps were to come loose or break, whatever is back there will end up flying out whether or not there is a back on the bed.

Good Review, looking forward to more rock pile testing. One thing about the I-4WD that concerns me is that it automatically brakes the wheels. I would think it's going to go through alot of brakes. And I wonder about the brakes freezing on it in sub zero water crossings.
@mattg81165 жыл бұрын
I would assume the brakes can handle it. it is significantly less torque required to overcome the traction differential between the tires than to actually decelerate the vehicle. Also regarding the freezing, I imagine that the pads and rotors will almost always be warm enough to not freeze together, after all that's what they do, they convert your motion into heat. And if they did freeze briefly I doubt it would be more than the SxS could handle to crack loose.
@wraith5118020035 жыл бұрын

@@wraith511802003 A traditional locker would be the more robust alternative. That said, I am not incorrect that braking demands for the whole vehicle are an order of magnitude higher than for the traction control system. @@mattg8116 Thank God somebody finally gets it! I gave up trying to explain this whole brake grabby thing to the kool aid drinkers. When a brake is applied to stop a spinning wheel, that power is LOST to heat and friction. In tough crawling situations and extended mud and snow bashing, a mechanically locked diff is unbeatable, and as stated, once the system gets hot, or pads wear out... This was the cheap and gimicky way to get away with a less robust front diff, and to wow the average joe with 'technology' IMHO.
