I was a Dodge Ram guy with my last truck. I've always just liked how they look, that signature mean looking grill. And I test drove some new ones and I will definitely say they are fast with a smooth ride. But there's just some things about them that I'm not a huge fan of, at least as far as the 1500s go. All the heavy duty trucks are still awesome but I can't justify buying one So this time around I went Ford. I got into Lariat but I went with the V8 Coyote. It's hard not to use sport mode lol. It might be lacking in horsepower compared to that RAM but man it can still take off quick for a big truck and it is fun hearing that engine growl. But overall I am super impressed with the vehicle. I think it rides more than smooth enough compared to what I'm used to and it definitely felt different than the XLT I tried out. And even that felt pretty good These days I don't really think you'll regret picking any of these trucks.

Ford automatic transmissions back then were crap. The engines, however, would run forever. 300, 302, 351, 460 and the 7.3 Power Stroke were all legendarily reliable. The same went for Chrysler and GM engines of that era, and the Chrysler autos were crap as well. GM definitely had the most reliable autos of these three back then.

I removed the raptor grill lights because they were problematic and annoying. I removed the cold air intake because it was useless bullshit. I even put the stock roof rack back on because it doesn’t rust or leak like my over-priced Prinsu did. I quickly came to the realization that my 4runner had pretty much everything I need as stock. 3.5 years in on my 2021 F150 Lariat with the 2.7. Best truck I've owned. Towing 5000 lbs through the Canadian Rockies and it just loafs along. Never once have I needed full throttle on even the steepest grades. A hoot to pull out and easily pass minivans uphill while towing on those mountain passes. Did order the highest numerical rear end ratio which seems to benefit towing with no gas mileage penalty. Calgary to Vancouver without the trailer saw 32mpg imperial. Super quiet and smooth. I have the 18" wheels with factory ordered LT tires. On mine the USB can also be used to play music on the 18 speaker 1080 watt B&O Unleashed sound system. A big reason for going with the F150 is living in a road salt area, it's the one that won't rust . Shocked at some recent RAM and slightly older GM trucks with horrendous rust. Those guys probably still owe big bucks and the premature rust would kill the value.

Now I believe the F150 Platinum gets continuously adaptive suspension, I forget what they call it but it’s like the GMC/Chev suspension that does the same thing. Constant 2ms adjustment. So the F150 in this video didn’t have that. Regardless even with it, I agree it’s still a bit more stiff feeling in the rear. I will admit though I may be misremembering, and that’s only available on the Platinum Plus. I hope that’s not the case.
@TheLumberJacked3 ай бұрын
Well I bought one. Turns out continuous damping is on the Platinum as well. It is in fact softer than I expected, in a good way and there is a great deal of difference between modes. Sport is much more firm and controlled than Normal mode (for instance) and is a joy to drive. Normal is fantastic for highway cruising or around town. Other modes offer differences in feel but Normal and Sport offer the most obvious difference. Interestingly, of all of the vehicles I have owned or driven that have adaptive suspension, including AMG Mercedes, the Continuous Damping by Ford offered the greatest difference in feel between modes. I believe one reason for that is the range of travel a truck suspension has vs a passenger car. It allows for a longer suspension stroke which allows you to really feel the differences between said modes. Well worth it IMHO. The controlled and comfortable ride is fantastic.

Ram has had the smoothest ride and nicest interior since 2019 but the new 6 cylinder is a big disappointment. No serious truck buyer would consider a Tundra to begin with so it wasn't needed for this.

I agree on new Tundras. Co worker bought one 8 months ago and it’s just not refined at all. Cheap plastic everywhere and it looks like his is going to have to have engine replaced. Very rough shifting transmission to. He wants to trade it on a new F150 but dealers don’t want it knowing engine is going bad, he is stuck and not a happy camper. Toyota use to be unbeatable but those days are gone.

I've got a 14 Sierra and an 18 Escalade, so that Ultimate seems like the perfect combination of the two, but they're just so pricey and I recently accumulated some medical bills. Definitely my favorite of the three so hopefully in '25 or '26.

Lol. The GEN3/GEN4 Coyote in the F150 blows the L86/L87 GEN5 6.2L out of the water in the 1/2 tons. The 6.2's aren't close to being as easy, cheap, rewarding, or potent to mod as the 18+ 5L trucks. If you want to argue a 6.2L with a ported head, and aftermarket cam setup, then okay then it could compete in the N/A arena, but do you really want to buy a $70K+ dollar crewcab truck to then spend probably between $6K-$7K in getting the heads ported, getting a big aftermarket cam, a DOD delete kit, and the supporting fuel system, and exhaust mods that would be needed to run with a tuned on E85/bolton, 5L truck? For that $ you can get add a blower to the 5L and put down more power than a stock L87 will safely handle. And yes I own both a 3.5L/10R80 truck (wifey's truck) and a 5L/10R80 truck, but I also used to own a 19 Camaro 1SS 1LE, and understand the GEN5 SBC pretty well. I would still own that car, but a semi ran into me and it was totaled out.

My 2003 Tundra has a quarter million miles, I paid it off 17 years ago, and it still runs great. V6 SR5 2 Wheel Dr. it never has broken down or stalled. The only thing I have replaced is the back wheel bearings after looking at new truck prices I am considering having the engine and transmission rebuilt Along with the shocks/struts, control, arms, etc. for $15,000 or whatever it costs, and have truck last me another 20 years. Everything is original, the transmission has never been opened neither the radiator power steering fluid differential fluid, it’s all factory, and the truck still runs great without any problems whatsoever. I think it was just a fluke that I purchased the complete opposite of a lemon. I change the oil every October, once a year with full synthetic, and mobile one filter. Most of these new trucks have buyers who don’t use a pick up truck for what a pick up truck should be used for, hence the 5 foot beds abound. I am electrician, so I don’t need to place a 4 x 8 sheet of plywood in the back, however, I do use ladders 8 feet and under all the time so a 6 foot bed will suffice. I simply cannot stomach blowing a good portion of my life savings on a 75-90k truck or financing one for $1400 a month. in my opinion, insane. Look at the prices for the Ford or dodge, etc. what planet are they from? Do they think everyone makes $200,000 a year?

I always look forward to your tests, but to compare the Ram & GMC to Fords hybrids systm is not fair. I know it is hard to get all 3 the same, but at least get the same tires , the same axel ratios Etc, close to the same price. That would make for a more apples to apples test. I watched another youtube chanell. This guy had 4 fords, & posted all there epa mileage, Then took each truck & drove each one on the same loop & then posted the real mieage compared to the EPA. Very interesting. That is what i want to see..

I like the Ford hybrid system but their prices are just insane and the Ford chime is the most annoying sound in any vehicle. Not to mention all of the recent issues they're having. If I were looking for a half ton the Silverado LT with any of the drivetrains but preferably the BabyMax is the best value these days. As much as I like an inline 6 RAMs prices are insane for their low capability.

I’m opposite of most truck shoppers, I don’t care for all the do dads and shiny trinkets. When I’m buying a truck I’m buying a tool for a purpose not a fashion accessory to match my wife’s purse.
