Thing is, reliability for me is important, but what I don't want is for it to be a car you have to pray you get to your destination safely. That's why I will never buy a Korean or European car. I think owner satisfaction is also something to take into consideration as well, F-150, Silverado, Sierra, Ram, Tundra, and Titan owners all love their trucks and they should. They are all great trucks that and it's hard to go wrong with any of them.

it's a turbo truck that scoop is just for looks, the turbo is gonna suck in more air then you can try to force into it with the scoop only thing the scoop will do is force harmful debris into the turbo when the grill fails
@JamesJohnson-tj4tt
@JamesJohnson-tj4tt 7 жыл бұрын
Ogreng Buddha the scoop just allows more air to the filter. It's not going to "allow" more debris. The filter is what stops it. Unless you drive without a filter. The scoop just allows the motor to have access to a larger surface area for pulling in air. Kinda like sucking through a straw you only get so much air before you can't suck any more in. I think you should stick to your Prius.

just saw some l5p dyno numbers at the tire. crazy it put down almost 885 lbs where the 2017 ford is around 823 lbs. im amazed here !! you can have all the torque in the world but if you cant put it to the tire it means nothing !! alison has always done an excellent job puting down power versus the competition !!

I look forward to watching this test every year. One of the best. I really thought the Ford was going to take it this year with all of its improvements. Ram did much better than last years ram run (mostly the breaking i think). While I expected the GM to compete and be close to the other two, especially with the 373, I am stunned it won, and that it beat the other two by the margin it did. Way to go gm. So can we say that advertised numbers are rather misleading? Is the main/only reason the Ford and Ram are rated at 30k due to the 411 rear end ratio? How well would the Ford and Ram do with a 373? How would the GM Compare with a 411? You guys should discuss this on an ask Mr Truck.

Ford's large towing numbers are because they switched the body to aluminum and reinvested the weight savings into beefier axles and hubs. That's why I feel this test was unfairly scored. Nathan knocked the ford down to 17 for one gripe, ut gave the chevy a 21 even though it's not even close in towing capability. Kent had a laundry list of complaints for the chevy and still gave it a 22. Clearly a manufactured and biased result.

Everyone down in the comments saying they gave an unfair advantage to Chevy because they all had to tow less. Well if that's true wouldn't that actually give the unfair advantage to Ford and Dodge? Considering how Chevy was at max towing capacity and the other two still had about 8,000 more pounds they could have pulled

Daniel Rocha-Garcia - yes, they should have blown the chevy away since they weren't even near max towing capacity. Though, chevy may give their truck a lower towing capacity with the mindset, that for what it's rated for, it will do the best job.? Then again, if the chevy had 4.10 gears to match the others, it would consequentially increase its tow capacity, and it may not be as fast or would lose mpg...? The games manufacturers play.

In the Spring of 2023 I bought my first Ram, 2017 RAM 3500 6.7L Cummins®AISIN 6-Speed Automatic Transmission Dually with 4:10 axle ratio. It's just a Tradesman model, I wish it had leather power seats, but as I understand seats, entertainment system / radio is all interchangeable with other generation 4 models. Just need to find a set at a salvage yard, market place or craigslist and find out how to power them. I tow a 40' toyhauler. It sucks on fuel economy. Really sucks but it's quiet and best of all my RAM makes me feel confident again pulling my toyhauler. Love it!

I tried to wait for this test before buying my truck to tow our new 5th wheel, but the timing just didn't work out and I had to make a decision. Looks like I made a good one when I bought a 2017 GMC Sierra 3500 Duramax. We just finished our initial trip from Tampa, FL to Baltimore, MD with several stops for camping on the way. I averaged just about 9 MPG over the trip, pulling about 14000 lbs. keeping the speed between 60 and 65 MPH, except when approaching DC where we averaged about 25 MPH. Very happy with how the truck pulls and how quiet it is inside.

So if the Chevrolet won with a 22800 pound trailer, wouldn't you say those two other trucks that claim to be able to tow 30000 pounds plus are overrated. There is no organization that rates the maximum a truck can tow. The manufacturers rate their truck at whatever they want. That ridiculous tow rating is just to appeal to those people that want to say "mine is bigger than yours ".

ramey1901 Chevy has always underrated their towing capacity. I can remember my grandpa actually bought a Ford once because of this (due to insurance and warranty issues) but still ended up going back to the Chevy. Don't get me wrong, they're all good trucks but I personally think the Chevy is the best out of the three.
@MaxEffortSooner
@MaxEffortSooner 7 жыл бұрын
ramey1901 they are rated by a set SAE standard called J2807. This is the foundation for HP, TQ, and towing. This is something that all US truck makers are complying by. The run they just did is not something everyone does I.E., try to make 60 Mph up a 6-11% grade with 25,000+ Lbs of weight behind you. It's an extreme test. Manufacturers just don't build those trucks to tow at those speeds up that type of grade. It's unsafe anyways. Nobody experienced in regularly towing heavy loads would ever drive more than 45-55 Mph up or down a grade like that. What would be the point unless you don't care wether or not you make it home every night?

Good review. I wonder how much better the GM would do above the rest with an equal 4.11 rear set. Real world performance is far more informative than what's in brochures, fancy TV commercials, and dealership sales folks. Congrats to GM for finally being competitively matched, and considering the extra work the Duramax had to do towing that load in front of a 3.73...sounds like GM is being conservative on what the Dirty is actually putting out also. First off, I'm a Ford guy. I would have thought it should do better, but it didn't. Arguing about 15 seconds going up that hill, is pretty much pointless. They are all pretty capable. Any one of them is hardly a piece of crap. Buy the one you like the looks of most. Again, I agree with others, Fords pricing is getting out of hand. Unfortunately as long as people keep paying the prices will keep creeping up... As much as I want to say hateful stuff about the Chevy and Ram, they perform really good. Chevy has square wheel arches, that's all I got on that one. Ram, sucked back in the late 90's, that's all I got there. So question though, when any of these trucks are in regen, is there an idiot light to say it's in that mode? And when in regen, how much power is lost, if any? But guys, why deviate from the scoring? They all did good, but their braking results were different. And to be honest, you subjective scoring opens you up to bias. Just saying. Sometimes on other reviews it seems like some give really low subjective scores and the other guy gives one a little too nice to compensate. Makes your reviews appear like a Motor Trend review. You know, how they gush over Bimmers..

They're referencing peak horsepower and torque. That means that at some point at WOT throughout the rev range the ford exceeds the other two. What this doesn't tell you is how it compares to the other two vehicles at other RPM's, which is what they experience in this test. You will see people reference area under the curve, which typically leads to more usable power, which would help explain the results of the Duramax.

I'm honestly really surprised at the results. Even though I'm a GM fan, I figured Ford would have won this fairly convincingly, with the Chevy coming in 2nd and the Ram 3rd. I'm very surprised the Ford did not live up to its billing. Not that it's a bad truck, but its point total is surprisingly low for being an all-new platform with a very recently updated engine (Ford can't claim it's the oldest engine design, certainly). What else was surprising is that earlier this past week the Ford, even with its new aluminum Super Duty body, was still one of the heaviest if not the heaviest dually as configured. So aluminum has not helped the Super Duty in a substantive manner so far. The fact that the Chevy was pulling at basically its maximum, while both the Ram and Ford were towing well south of their maximum, and the GM still won, confirms GM's focus and marketing around having the best overall towing experience rather than just crushing on engine and towing stats. The GM was fastest (though I know towing is about safety more than speed), had 2nd highest MPG, was the lightest, and was the lowest priced. Yes its max towing is by far the lowest, but if the other two can't beat it towing well below their rated max, how will they be great towers with an actual 32k# load? Awesome job, GM. Honestly, I'd take any of these things, though I'd want the Ford to have the full upgrades.

One thing to take into consideration with the alum body is that they tend to beef up other parts of the truck with the weight savings.

Good 2 see GM being honest and not lie 2 their customers with inflated tow ratings. Chevy dominated every aspect of this challenge and should have won by a larger margin because it did brake the best and it got knocked for not having power mirrors because Chevy didn't send a fully loaded model like the other 2. GM has been top dog ever since the Duramax came out and it's streak continues. looks like Ram needs 2 beg Cummins for a new engine and Ford needs 2 reprogram the 6.7 for the 11th time lol. Gotta love them complaining every 5 minutes about Chevy's lower tow rating and then watch it walk away from the other 2. Ford looks the best on paper, Ram looks the best at the dealership, Chevy looks the best in the real world Having said all of that, all 3 of these can tow ur 5th wheel or fishing boat without any problems.

This test showed what each truck could tow up and down this hill. I am a Chevy guy...therefore this test showed who was the best at towing. It didn't show who was best at interior, exterior...all around value and best truck overall. You have to give it to Chevy on this one and give them some mad props for what they have done even thought their truck is rated for much less. I came into this video expecting Ford to blow Ram and Chevy away with the all new truck and I was completely surprised to see the results. In this match up, facts are facts....the Chevy blew away the competition going up the hill. Going up the hill, not down the hill, is where the proof is.

It's nice to see improvements in all the brands. Basically it doesn't even matter which one you buy since they all tow with big numbers compared to 20 years ago. Also raw power numbers don't matter that's only peak power. The dyno graph will likely show a different story with power along the whole rev range. I'd easily sacrifice peak hp for stronger power band with less drop off.

There's a reason Chevrolet rated their towing capacity less than Ram and Ford. It's so they can cover their ass if you over load it and break it. If you wanted to you could hook onto the Silverado at 30,000 pounds and it would pull it pretty easily. Also take into consideration it's not about how much you can pull it's about how much you can pull and brake safely.

Manveer Singh yes it is. I think something was the matter with the 2017 like something with the computer that was affecting its throttle cuz they said the fastest they could go was 40. they've mentioned it was weird. also they tested a 2017 F450 with 30000 pounds and they went over 40 mph with that truck and they did it in only a minute slower then 2017 F350 with almost 8,000 more. so you would think with a lighter truck and less weight it would be a lot faster than the F-450 was not just a minute faster. so I think something is up with the 17- F350

Also, most dually owners rarely if ever would torture test their own truck. You'll see guys towing a 15,000lb trailer load and make 2 trips rather than fully load the GVWR to the max and pull 30,000 lbs once. So GM fully understands their customer and isn't dumb enough to get into a meaningless towing numbers race with Ford and Ram.

CMG30 all GM has to do is use a 4:10 rear axle and it would tow 30,000+ lbs, GM just did their homework and realized a vast vast vast majority of dually owners rarely tow more than 20,000 lbs so, plus the axle GM uses in the 3500HD is truly bullet proof, they would be making a mistake trying to play the marketing game with Ford and Ram.

Greendude33 lmao. the front independent axle has always been weak. they know that so they keep the tow rating low. plus its a brand new powertrain... they r saving their ass warranty risk. 3rd gm has a new 45 and 5500 medium duty truck coming out with the same powertrain. its a navistar truck with chevy styling... it the 3500 pulled 30k then the 5500 would have to pull 45k!

Bias aside, if you're going off of track record, Cummins is the only diesel motor I'd ever consider spending over $50,000 on. Duramax is a little spotty in my experience and Powerstroke is an absolute joke. These newer ones are an improvement, I'm sure. But if you're spending that kind of money, I don't want an "improvement" on the worst diesel engines ever made when I can get an evolution of the 5.9's that will effectively run forever.
@manrightchea
@manrightchea 7 жыл бұрын
Enthused I think most people criticizing the Powerstroke have never actually owned one or worked with one. Our 6-liter work trucks have well over 300,000 miles. That being said, Ford has won the Diesel Power Challenge 2 years in a row now, results don't line up with the criticism they receive which is the same in my experience.

Enthused You’re smoking crack. The 6.7 Powerstroke is as reliable as any of the other diesels. The only problem that the Powerstroke will have is the same problem that they ALL will have and that’s emissions. The 6.7 Cummins is no where near as reliable as the 5.9 thanks to the emissions.

Just like I predicted. If you are at wide open throttle and properly downshifted, what you need is HORSEPOWER. I don't understand why this is so hard for people. Besides, if your peak torque is at 1800 rpm and your engine is operating at peak power, say 2800 rpm, that peak torque spec does precisely NOTHING for you.

Why so many ford boys crying? I didn't see GM boys crying when FLT gave both ford and Ram extra points in braking. The braking system is SO good on the GM truck that they had to use throttle down the hill while braking in the Ford. So they could/should have awarded the Silverado at least 2 additional points for the braking portion over both the ford and Ram.

But the Chevy is rated at 23,000lbs and it just handled this 28,500lb trailer better then the trucks rated for 30. Come on now people it's common sense. "let's put 30k behind them and the Chevy won't handle them lol" well if it can handle 28,500 better I'm sure the other two won't be any better lol.

Issaq Al-Ahmed it because you have fallen into the pattern of thinking that the truck with the most peak torque is going to tow the best. The sheer amount of torque an engine makes is irrelevant as torque is multiplied or divided through gearing, while either sacrificing or gaining rpm. Horse power takes is a rate at which work is done, and is calculated through torque and rpm, and stays the same through gearing

After towing a 39ft 5th wheel toy hauler with one of these; i've come to realize just how much the power output varies... i can actually tell a difference in the power right before a regen (when the soot is gathered up in the exhaust), during the regen (when it goes ballistic with the exhaust temps) and after. to try and nail all of these trucks at the same point in their regen cycles would be insanely difficult... unfortunately this is the price we pay because of the EPA. I also usually drop 1 mpg during the regen cycle - depending how long I've been towing (i usually reset my avg mpg thing every time I tow anything considerable).

Great Test Thanks again to The Fast Lane Truck for providing Real World test comparisons that real people can use to make a big purchase decision . All three are great trucks and I have owned them all But for me haveing the cummins in line 6 makes the cost of service much less and is really the only " Real Diesel Engine to me " GM and Ford have went the High RPM dieselized V8 gas motor approach and Both have stuck past customers with some expensive engine related repairs . I think the Ram being not a fresh re design has kept up magnificently with a rated 385 HP . Ford and Gm can claim these eye popping horsepower numbers but these aren't corvettes they are workhorses that rely on brute torque to get the job done . depending on where the rpm's fall, sometimes a higher (lower numerically) ratio may not be a bad thing. Too low of a ratio and you could end up at the bottom of a higher gear, which makes it harder for the engine to pull. Transmission ratios are also not the same, so it isn't an apples/apples comparison with the gearing.

As for this so called test,,,,not being on a closed course the timing is questionable in accuracy. Then there are the personal ratings, so how can one call this definitive? Also they give us the MSRPs which people bitch about but no one pays that. I would love to see the boost/exhaust brake numbers on these trucks. I know the ram lets you select both displayed to the left of the main display. Besides the satisfaction of seeing the numbers, they could be useful in the comparison. Exhaust brake hp could tell part of the story on the downhill speed control test. Boost numbers on the way up can tell us how much foot (if anything less than full fueling) is in it and a good indicator of how much work the engine has to do to produce rated horsepower. Great comparison videos, gentleman. I like watching on weekend mornings, and the videos look great on the bigger TV screen.

I have a 16' ford f350 and i will say the chevy feels like it has more power. The powestroke feels like it has a very narrow power band and has to be at least at 2k rpm before it will move its butt off the line. The ford needed a new frame 10 years ago. My 16 ford squeaks like a mofo if the axles aren't parallel because the frame is so flimsy. Also the ford's steel is super thin, it dents wwaayyyy to easy.

Kayman Clark exactly right!!! The fords power band is so narrow, starts pulling good at clost to 2000rpm then power falls off after 2500, wheeras the chevy and ram keep pulling to 3000rpm. The ford falls on its face at 3000rpm. The ford is a very peaky engine with a narrow power band, so that class leading torque and horsepower is only available therough a very narrow sweet spot.

None of them suck, they're all phenomenal and realistically within about 5% of each other in terms of performance and refinement. Lots of experience tells you to buy a GM if your main priority is transmission durability, and buy a Ram if your main priority is engine durability. I'd go Ram personally, because they're the most willing to win out in terms of overall price, and then you end up with probably the most bulletproof engine ever put into a civilian vehicle. Ford to me has always been a distant 3rd place because I've owned handfuls of all of these trucks used.

How so? The GM tuck is not rated for it, so it's pretty pointless. What would be interesting, would be to see the other trucks specced with the lower rating packages so all of them have the 30000 lbs max combined vehicle weight and 3:73 ratios. Here's the thing. It would not change anything really. That inline 6 just have one hell of a flat torque band, so in this case it would most likely beat both the Duramax and Powerstoke. Problem with those engines are that they are so peakey. The Cummins in my Ram does not pinch me to the seat off the line, but it just freight trains along when on the move - and that's what you want your truck to do. The best would be to see how each truck would perform on a coast to coast trip from say Manhattan to Santa Barbs, with a quick stop in Salt Lake City via the scenic route of course. While the Ike is a fun test, it's not really that useful as it's a situation most people won't encounter very often. My route is a bit more real world long distance.

Great test. I deliver rock with a V10 gas truck and get about the same MPG. I pull 7 tons in a trailer that weighs about 3 ton. My truck weighs about 6800 pounds without the trailer. I am regularly anywhere from 25 to 27000 lbs. gross weight. (Its a SRW supercab 4X4 4 spd auto). I think it would be interesting to see what each one of the trucks would do moving a heavy load of say rock up a 12% to 14% grade on a gravel road using 4 low just to see which one got the best traction and which diesel really pulled the hardest to demonstrate which truck had the true measure of a diesel 4X4, then try the engine braking etc.

*They're* allowed to have *their* opinions. Personally, I still don't quite trust GM products. If I were to go into the RV hauling industry, for example, it would probably be Ford or Ram. The company I work for now has a couple of wheelchair vans with Duramax engines, and granted, they are around 6 years old, but they have lots of issues. Yes, I went *there*.

Over the years I like so many have owned one or all 3 of these brands of trucks. Come on now let's be realistic here who in the right mind would tow 30,000 plus pounds any distance with any truck of this size and weight? Not me maybe down a 2 lane road door a few miles but out on the mountain highways no way. Just my opinion but GM is playing it not only safe but being more realistic with its max tow rating for all around driving at the posted speed safely. Plus just how is someone going to know they are actually towing the recommended weight - ok let's everyone load our trucks up to what we think is the max rated weight and head to a near by scale. Oh and how many times before we get the max weight rating right? So many trucks are over loaded as it is but for companies to rate their trucks at such an unreasonable weight to tow is nuts in my opinion. I own a Ford F-550 and tow a 3 car hauler trailer with it at times but at least I can get close to the max tow rating or so I thought. When our trucks get many miles on them one would think we could still tow the same weight as new safely but not so. It only takes one bad tank of fuel to low our nice truck that is maxed out to a crawl before we are no longer cruising a long at the safe posted speed. Or worn out suspension components and so on. These one ton trucks are not designed to tow their max tow rating on a daily basis because they wear out and are so expensive to repair if you can find parts for them a long areas of our country that will not have the parts. My transmission went belly up and a new one was $6,800 bucks and no rebuilds were available a long with it took over 2 weeks to get a new trans. Front suspension parts are built so tuff that Ford never considered the fact that a part could and would break but it happened to my truck and a week of down time and $3200 later it was fixed. My point is sure a company rates their truck to carry or tow 30,000 plus pounds but how safe is it and how long before it breaks down. Than if and when it does break down oh and it will even under warranty the dealership informs you hey your trans is not covered because our factory rep feels you over loaded it. Advise take that 60,000 t0 $80,000 and purchase a real truck such as a Volvo - KW - Freight Liner with low miles and have a safe truck and one that's not over rated in what it can safely tow. So how many need a truck rated @ 30,000 plus pounds unless your someone like me or? So don't believe it when you read hey this truck can tow 30,000 pounds but for how long and the people that tow that weight on a regular basis buy a real truck like I ended up doing. Food for thought.

Whats-it's-like I'm a hotshot driver with a f350. I'm tagged for 39,900 and tow 30k with a 40 foot pj gooseneck weekly. I put 120k miles a year. My 2016 has 260k miles on it and never been in a shop or had a check engine light on. These trucks, at least the Ford and dodge, can handle 30k all day with no trouble in all terrains. We have 40 drivers in our company and no dodge, about 28 of those 40, has yet to make it to 80k miles without a shop visit

wow, I didn't expect that. Ford engines must not like the high elevation. I new chevy would be the fastest but I never expected the high score. I really don't care about who's the fasted, most important thing to me was braking and ride comfort. Guess braking doesn't matter any more, there all great. I was wanting to see ford at the top, because they put so much effort in the new trucks and it looks bad ass. that chevy always has to ruin fords glory.

I'm curious about the proper break in of these truck engines . I noticed the fuel mileage increased on my 2005 dodge 3500 srw 5.9 cummins 6spd manual after 25,000 mi. It would be nice if you guys would announce the current mileage on each truck prior to testing. IMO I believe some vehicles take longer then others to break in.

I love how stupid people act in the comments. ``Ford sucks'', chevy is the best''. This is just one test out of how many? Like give a few good facts on why your say what your saying. Personally I'd still take the ford, and then ram, I would probably never buy a chevy product, but I will say it did impress me and I give Gm a thumbs up for that.

What's funny is people take these guys opinion as fact. Lol. Do we honestly know if he had that pedal mashed in the ford? I've heard of them sand banging before what's dif now. Why are there numbers so diff. And why when they did the other videos with only ford and dodge only. Ford won that one but lost this one. Alot of questions. And we will not get answers. I will only buy Ford because I want to get home safe to my kids.

It's rated to 23000 lbs for warranty and it wins to a 30000 lbs rated trucks? That only says that it will be better in 30000 lbs too, don't matter the weight the Chevy always will win, Ram and Ford inflated that numbers and Chevy underrated that to put a warranty in it

I was impressed with all of them this year but that Chevy was great. I'm from western Colorado and the breaking and grade shifting was impressive in all three trucks. You can tell the manufactures are paying attention to this test because they are working to improve them for this.

gm I s smart. they underrate their trucks because they know we're going to overload them. What's funny though is dodge and ford have lower gears and still can't pull worth shit. and might I add this load was nothing compared to what ford and dodge claim they can pull. if they can't out pull a quote weaker powe re d duramax how the fuck can they pull what they are supposedly rated to pull. lmao.

Because they can pull more than advertised I don’t give a crap about dodge I love my fords and they tow the most and are the toughest in my experience, look around you see more people towing with fords than anything else. Gm is the lowest rated truck because the Duramax is weak And sucks

Very helpful. I’m getting the Ram 3500 Laramie because I had a F250 and the Dodge turns like a car in town.The ford needs a city block to turn. Much easier to drive day to day and I loved the interior. Thanks for the info and very good review. I may go test drive the Chevy because of this but I don’t like the interior from the pics.
