One thing to note for the campers/ outdoorsmen- the bed dimensions for both trucks, the depth. I can not put a Yeti 110 cooler in the Taco and use my tonneau cover. The bed walls are extremely short, worse than the Nissan Frontier leaving things sticking out exposed. It does fit in the Maverick though. Side beds walls are much taller. Just a valid point worth noting for some.

The maverick is a unibody platform like the honda Ridgeline and the Hyundai santa cruz. I feel like these unibody truck designed vehicles should be compared against each other because they seem to be more car based than all the other midsized trucks.

That makes sense if you're focusing solely on off-road performance. Since most people don't off-road their trucks, I can see how unibody and body on frame can be compared. IMO It's because of this, people cross shop Ridgelines, Tacoma's, Colorado's,etc.

@@guyod1 fair point on towing. You'd have to go away from the Tremor model to get a decent amount of towing performance. And that would still be 1/3 less capable than the Taco. I would think that would lead to a cross shopping of the Ridgeline. I have four kids and when they were young we used an Expedition, a Sequoia, and Mazda CX-9. We enjoyed all 3 and they all had towing packages. We towed within the Expedition twice and the Sequoia once. Never the Mazda. That was over the course of 12 years of total ownership. They did great but never really had a reason to use it. I think that's more often the case with asphalt warriors

Ha ha ha another person conned by Fraud motor company. I like you walked into a ford dealer in September of 2021 and ordered a new ranger. Was quoted 6 to 8 weeks. Upon being assigned a VIN number I saw the price had jumped from 29k to 35k discovered they had ordered it as a 4wd. Had to resubmit the order in November of 2021. Found out I had missed the order window and had to wait for production to restart on 12/21. As of spring of 2022 I still had no order date or a VIN number and I had no idea when it was being built. I couldn’t wait any longer as I needed to sell my existing truck to help pay for the new one and couldn’t sell that if I didn’t have something to drive. Ended up settling for a 2022 Tacoma that was built and enroute. Have had it for almost a year now, yesterday I got an email from ford saying my ranger ( which I canceled and got my deposit back) was still delayed due to supply shortages. That’s almost 2 years after I ordered it. Don’t be surprised if you keep getting punted down the chain. I guess bronco buyers were more important to Ford. That’s why they lost my business and are unlikely to get it back

I know it's for the views - and I really do enjoy seeing this comparison - but these two vehicles are very difficult to compare. They're built for similar functions, but also drastically different functions as well. I know my Maverick FX4 can and will do most of what any off road truck can do 95% of the time on a trail. It's that 5% I know it can't do and I'm fine with that! I've taken it off road at least a dozen times in less than a year of ownership which is more than I know most raptors have been out and I have a great time, because in the end it's just about getting out there and having fun. It carries my work gear and can tow 4k lbs, not large lumber or a massive toy hauler and I'm fine with that. It carries 5 passengers arguably more comfortably than most mid size pickups. My favorite thing is when my tall ass coworkers get in my truck from there massive lifted king cabs and seeing how surprised they are at how much space there is. And almost fully loaded mid spec was sub $30k. It fits in my apt garage and is incredibly easy to drive and park. All in all I don't regret my decision at all and with bigger tires and some other aftermarket parts I've added, it's a great deal of fun.

I think that most Tacoma's spend their time on improved dirt roads though. I dont think to many of them get used how they should. I see people driving around in their lifted Tacoma's with 33's and roof top tents and crap bolted all over them and in all the time I spend off the beaten path, I almost never see them actually out there doing stuff. Where I do see them is the same places I drag my 24' Jayco travel trailer with like 9" of ground clearance. Reality is most of these people could drive a Maverick and do all the things they want to do without issue. They just saw to many commercials of people wear flannel shirts, drinking IPA's in the woods with Tacoma's in the background and thought it looked cool.

This is just not my type of review and why no driving impressions of the new Maverick Tremor. Not a good comparison on top of that Ranger is what you should compare to the Tacoma. I would have been more interested in a review of the Maverick Tremor and how its rides both on, off road and 0-60 run too. What would have been better was a comparison between the Tremor and FX4 Maverick to see the ride differences.

Got an 18 Taco sport w Full bolt ons and a tune on e85. Truck runs mid 13s. Been modified since 30k and it now has 107k. Not one issue. On a tank of pump gas I usually average 22 combined when I drive like a grandma. I use the truck for everything, offroad, hauler, and sometimes I tow. I beat the heck out of the taco and the Trucks just a beast! Refuses to quit. I considered buying a ranger/maverick for the tuning capabilities (tuned rangers running 12s) but I cannot get over the poor quality of ford. I have a 20 Ford Escape that I drive for work (I’m a salesrep) and what a piece of junk. Electrical issues, mad recalls on the ecoboost and other areas, and just poor quality on a lot of the switches and interior pieces. As much as I’d love a Ranger/maverick I can’t do it. I’ll stick w the taco.

I’ve found that Ford has quality issues in their low end vehicles. Escape has always been on the scrappy side of things and has always felt a bit janky. In this case I think the Ranger would be a better comparison as the Maverick is intended to be on the low end of their fleet.

The Tacoma will be better for off-road or light duty towing. The Maverick will be way, way, way better for daily driving. If I were shopping for a small pickup and didn’t need to do towing (which I only do maybe once a year), Maverick Hybrid would be at the top of my list. Tacoma wouldn’t be anywhere on the list because of the horrible seating position. My head hits the roof of the Tacoma unless I recline the seat uncomfortably far back.

Not completely applicable to these trim levels, but I'd love to get my wife into a maverick. The Tacoma, and midsize trucks to me in general don't fit my lifestyle. I have a CCLB Cummins for towing and hauling snowmaches but its waaaay too much truck for grocery getting. The Maverick would happily handle those commuter and homeowner duties much more efficiently than a Tacoma (a also hate the seating in them) leaving "real"truck work to my Ram. It will happily tow a RZR or some snowmaches too, making the bed size argument a bit moot unless you're an 8 ft bed user, I. Which case a 4.5 ft bed will never cut it. I like the little Mav!

So, is TFL a Toyota hating channel? I mean, you are comparing a tiny truck, the maverick, to a true midsized truck, the Tacoma. Even Ford calls the maverick a small truck. These aren't comparable. Just like when you tried to compare the baseline 4runner to the top-of-the-line Bronco. They are not comparable. Why not use something actually comparable, like the Ranger to a Tacoma? Can those not be compared? Does the Tacoma blow the Ranger out of the water so much that you have to compare it to something different and find the smallest differences where the maverick may have an advantage, like price or that stupid tailgate thing and call it better because of that? Your videos are fun, but come on. If you want to be taken seriously, do a real comparison. Do the 4Runner TRD Pro to the Bronco you own. Do a Ranger to a Tacoma.

Toyota USA really burned me with my 16' Tacoma. 2qts low on fluid from factory, never shifted right again. Rear diff burned up at 7k miles. CPS left me stranded 3 hours from home. Hood skin separated from sub frame. Fuel pump went out at 45k miles. The list is endless. Worst part: Toyota USA deleted my service records and tried to direct my local dealership to withhold my transmission service records so I could not make a case for buy back. I should have paid for a lawyer, but my local dealership gave me a platinum protection plan for all my problems. That gave me peace of mind for about 4 years. Then I traded it for a Ram, traded my wife's RAV4 for a Jeep. Bought stock in Stellantis and never looked back. New Toyota products are overpriced, underengineered junk backed by a crooked company that doesn't care about their customers. If you're looking for a smaller pickup, literally go anywhere but Toyota. They're gonna be the same reliability, so you might as well pay less and be more comfortable. I'm not mad.

The Maverick isn't even a truck - it's a unibody car they forgot to put a trunk lid on. But it still has better payload capacity than the Tacoma >< The Tremor trim is more comparable to the off-road trim on the Tacoma, so this isn't just a comparison across categories, but against wildly different rim levels as well. Not to say it isn't a useful comparison, only that the price differential would be lower if the trims were comparable. And to answer your question which one I would get: I have a Taco Off-Road, and I'd get a Ranger. I really don't see what function vehicles like the Maverick and Ridgeline serve. Even with the Taco, the short bed is so small as to by nearly dysfunctional. If you want to haul stuff, you need to bring a trailer. So at that point, most people would be better off with a compact or mid size SUV or crossover with 3000-5000# towing capacity and better payload capacity. The compact or mid-size SUV/crossover is probably a little more $$$, but the functional gains - interior cargo and passenger capacity - would be very worth it.
