idk. 10 grand buys a lot of fuel...so the chevy is already 10k ahead on that battle. 20k miles a year at 3 bucks a gallon(theoretical as it goes up and down) is less than a thousand dollars difference. So around 10 years of fuel in the chevy before the ram would actually start to save you money on fuel. thats 200k plus miles and most people are already trading them off by then. Id buy the chevy

@@Enchanted3DPrints the right way to do it is to Google MSRP on Ram 2500 and Silverado 2500, then use those numbers to do your calculations. If people have any common sense, they would know it’s not fair to compare trucks prices given to TFL for reviews. The difference is like $300 so now it’s time to do your fuel savings math again, lol.

@@Enchanted3DPrints flawed logic. That only holds true if these trucks were spec’ed equally and the Ram cost more money, but they are not spec,Ed the same. The 10 grand you mentioned purchased air ride, 20” rims, 12” display, etc over the Chevy. If they went down to a Big Horn (comparable pricing to the Chevy) , and the Ram with better fuel mileage, your theory falls apart. 😎

9:12 see there we go that’s why I’ve always liked heavy duty chevy’s and gmc’s because when it comes to towing they are beast I love how confident I feel with a load coming down a hill and maintaining a safe speed while that Allison transmission does A phenomenal job downshifting while holding the load and you safely not to mention then equipped with the AAM rear axle which is very strong then paired with that duramax you got yourself a towing beast. I used to think why doesn’t Chevy/gmc bump up there torque numbers , because 910 ft pounds is enough then pair that to a 10 speed transmission it all comes together at the end and that’s why they don’t need to bump up there numbers . The ram is a beast also because of the Cummins exhaust brake but it’s hard to beat that 10 speed AAM axle , Allison transmission paired to the duramax all together makes it hard to beat the Chevy truck . And I’m not hating on Ford but when it came to towing with Ford’s for me they were quick had plenty of power but it’s like the transmission went into idle mode and wouldn’t downshift and then I’d just have to rely and press hard on my brakes which is why I don’t like towing with fords

Your ears are telling you the truth! The sound readings your Sound Level Meter (SLM) are giving you are lower than the actual sound pressures. You are using the "A"scale, which is by convention the standard prsctice, but which greatly discounts low to mid rainge sound pressures, If your meter offers Linear Scale or even "C" scale, compare the results. Linear is no no weighting or bias against any frequency, "C" is far less weighting than "A". The vehicle engineers take advantage of the "A" weighting to get lower (pseudo-better) ratings.

It's kinda hard to judge on these trucks with so little miles. The Cummins is detuned during it's break in period. Once it hits 5k likes I think the MPGs get better.

@HalfShell yes there is. Go watch PD diesels videos on it. After a certain mileage the engine gets better MPG

You should fill up the def too, and show us the consumption.

@@pratikrossi what are you talking about? It either used “def”, or it didn’t. I add the cost of def to my fuel bill because you have to have it if you want the truck to preform properly.

@@rigging1377 what I am saying is if during their testing if one truck did not enter a regen and the other one did, it might give a result that not representative of what you're trying test i.e. DEF consumption. Def unlike fuel, is not something that gets consumed continuously. Depending on drive cycles and loads one truck might enter regen more frequently and hence use more def than the other even if it's exact same truck.

You would need a cross country run to get an accurate number.

Def is used to lower the NOX level by cooling down the exhaust temps so if the temperature reaches a certain point the truck would use Def even if not in a regeneration cycle. When towing my fifth wheel with my 2018 ram 2500 it’s very common to use 1/4 tank every time I go camping. Cummins engine exhaust runs very hot if you add an EGT sensor on your truck you will see that you should keep you truck in 5th gear to help push the heat out. Just my two sense on my own truck.

@@pratikrossi you need to research how def works before you post false information. Def is used during Normal operation to conform co2 into harmless gases. Don’t worry I’ll send you a link. Regen was mainly done on tier 3 engines before def. mmm-freight.com/def-how-does-it-works/

I have a 2015 sierra 2500, regularly pull 14K over Ike and never hit the brakes on the down hill side. I set my cruise at 55 and it holds all the way down. I know this is a different way of using it, but it also doesn't over brake like my friends RAM. Just so people don't think I'm a GM lover my next truck will likely be a Ram, just love their interior and I spend a lot of time in there.

Been driving and operating trucks in the oilfields for 20 years, as far as MPG and Towing capacity HP and Torque is not everything, wheel size and gear ratio makes a huge difference. Something to keep in mind!

Don't be fooled lol. The Ram actually puts down 858lb ft to the wheels at only 1800 rpm. Research some dyno vids. The Ram is a monster.
