At least $1B will be claimed. Saw a mechanic channel say that failures he saw were main bearing failures. Trash circulating in rest of engine which would cause random bearnings to fail, like cam bearings. He also said that mains bearing part numbers changed, but not all caps. Implies that there is product fault. The engine swap is the best result. Now if other auto manufacturers would do that level of warranty for the DFM lifter failures.

They will if its warranted. I had a lifter failure on a 6.2l that caused a bent valve and a hole in a piston and they put a complete new motor in. @gpaje Toyota, the pioneer of manufacturing processes that are considered the gold standard in production philosophies in companies all around the world, failed at its most basic principal of 5S? I'm going to continue to doubt that conclusion or the company narrative. All machined parts will have some level of debris left over and that is usually mitigated by either a break-in period (small engines, very short first oil change interval) or captured through a standard oil filter or magnetic pickups. It has to be a design flaw that allows the debris to circulate and create problems in other areas of the engine.

The his is just a news release. The “preliminary” notice that the customers will receive will have more info and the actual recall notice maybe more. Those notices will have reimbursement repair and hotel/rental details just like they always do. We replaced the whole TacoTundra frames so engine swap shouldn’t be much harder.

I had an engine recall on my Subaru some years back which required them to remove the engine and tear it apart to get to some springs. I had approximately 65,000 miles on the car at the time. As a result of having to remove the engine they had to replace the belts, coolant, refrigerant, and oil. I paid parts for the spark plugs and they put those in, too, since they needed to be removed to check compression on the cylinders. It was a major overall to the engine. Plus I got a free loaner for the week while they did the work. Definitely worth it.

A few things. It is the honorable thing to do from Toyota. Now some worries. If you go to a Toyota dealer (My wife has a RAV4 hybrid) so I take it in. I don't know how many techs are at a typical dealership depending on size but not all the techs would do this type of work. Second, I read where to replace the engine on this truck they remove the body. If this is true what are the chances you get a truck back absent rattles and squeaks even if you have the best tech in the world. Let's say they can do it without the body off, you still have to connect, disconnect turbos, connectors, A/C units, etc., etc. A complicated task. This would have been my solution if I was Toyota. Offer to buy the truck back for a new '24 similar model at 0% financing or a cash buyout if the owner prefers that. Owners who want to keep their trucks but the truck is running fine, give them a 150-,000 mile no cost warranty provided all service records are kept and no deductibles. Just my take and I bet my solution is cheaper than replacing 100,000 engines and as an owner I would prefer this. This solution puts me in the driver's seat so to speak. If Toyota does a buyout they at their option can replace the engine and have the dealer resell it as used and let the dealer pay a fair price to Toyota for the truck.

Second off no matter the fix the cab has to be pulled and the engine has to be rebuilt/replaced. Every single one of these trucks will lose the factory spec and their truck will be forever a rebuilt. I don’t know if it’s possible and it would cost so much more but I would have more faith if the trucks were put back on the assembly line and properly factory rebuilt. So did they fix this problem in the newer Tundras? Are the ones sitting on dealer lots safe to buy? I thought I read somewhere where the engine part was superseded sometime back in January or February. Maybe you just have to check the build dates who knows. I'm ready to buy one but kind of nervous.

You sound like a handout-wanting liberul. Why would they give people new trucks. What is faulty other than the 100k engines that they will replace

🤦‍♂️ you mean the fact that your 70K truck already has the engine replaced and the front clip entirely removed? You do know that reduces the resale value right?

Wouldn’t you have a ton of debt too if you could get money at 1.5% interest for the last 4 years? I do. Got a nice cash out refi on my house at super low interest and now I’m literally making money on the money I borrowed since interest rates have skyrocketed

@@Jay-me7gw Hell no. Toyota owes 240+ Billion dollars. With sales dropping like a rock in china, Toyotas profits and doing business will end very poor. The gaint will fail.

@@davidws5439 So, all they have to do is ask for a bailout from the Japanese Government like they did in 2008.

There would be documentation relating to the mileage at the time of the replacement, so that wouldn’t be an issue at all. In fact, the value of any vehicle that receives the new engine would be far more valuable in the resale market.
