They are refusing to give out any help regarding their rushed update that Sony put out KNOWING it had bugs (5.00 had this issue for other people) and yet Sony is refusing to make things right and are expecting me to pay out of pocket for a new main board? Absolutely shameful customer service. NEVER AGAIN.

They really need to allow for a true RAW feed from the FULL FX30 sensor - open gate 6K. The cropped down 'RAW' from the center of the sensor is a big crop. Probably won't happen since that would make the FX30 better than the FX3 except in very low light...

That’s what I thought but apparently it will accept a BRAW 4K or 6K input thru hdmi (currently only possible with a Pocket 4K or 6K). The only catch is that you have to work with the DaVinci Resolve session the Atem creates to access the BRAW data. Theoretically, there’s no reason this shouldn’t work with a BRAW file outputted by a Sony camera. Not gonna lie, I’m kinda excited about this…

Sounds good, so now you can use braw recorder instead of atomos and use the files straight in resolve? Since now you have to convert the prores raw files to format that works in resolve?

Prores RAW from FX3 works fine editing in Premiere Pro. I do it weekly on a PC. Look forward to seeing if there's any difference, but there are no limitations for the NLE I use.

I couldn’t access all the raw settings on premier like I could in FCPX and that’s what prevented me from using it because I use premiere and davinci mainly. I’m looking forward to seeing what is available In the raw tab with the braw from Sony cameras. My experience is you don’t always get all the options on the cameras recording braw externally but I would like that to be different on the Sony cameras recording braw

@@ReachFilms 4K crop on FX30 is due to Atomos external recorder not accepting 6K. If Blackmagic external recorder accepts 6K RAW then their won't be any crop on FX30 too.

I have a video about the current RAW vs slog3, as far as image quality nothing will change from that video. Basically, the colors are better in raw, but the crop is a major thing to deal with. My best results were using super 35 ef lenses with speed boosters in the raw mode on fx30. I go more in-depth on that video its around a year old I think

I also don't think those cameras will get the ability to shoot raw internally, they weren't designed with that in mind. However hopefully whenever we do see mark 2 versions of these cameras we get those options.

Too late. The firmware that added Shutter Angle to the FX30 broke my FX30. So, I switched to the LUMIX S5ii, to which I will be getting the update to export to BRAW to a Blackmagic 12G monitor. The better colors and features of the S5ii has made my captures so much better and pleasing. Adios, Sony.

@@ReachFilms I think Sony is announcing these things, that are so far away, in order to try and "freeze" the market. The FX9 is gone and buried, the Burano is overprices and really should have been priced at around $14,000 and marketed as the FX9II, the FX6II needs to include a few tweaks to put it into the FX9 spot and priced around $75,00 - 8,000. However Sony will not do any of that....they will attempt to just freeze the market while they release nothing between now and September 2025.

Somę years ago purchased Nikon Z6II plus did optional - paid - RAW firmware update and have the choice to record Apple ProRes RAW to Atomos Ninja or if I had the Brackmagic Video Assist to record BRAW.

It’s cool to see Sony still supporting these cams but I’d still take a good smallHD reference monitor and internal 422 on my FX3 over an Atomos or Blackmagic monitor with raw any day. Adding raw to these cameras makes such a small difference and it adds so much hassle to capturing.

12 bit RAW is a big difference comparing to 10 bit MP4. Blackmagic Video assist is also a nice 2500 nit monitor.

the raw actually does more than you think, it essentially bypasses the Sony Color science which is HUGE!!! Especially if using in situations with different camera brands, although i still use the 10 but more on Sony, i prefer the skin tones on raw in the sony cameras that offer it

@@ghospod sure it’s got a nice panel but there’s a reason you never see anything other than smallHD FSI and TVLogic in a local 600 cam dept - the tools and workflow on the monitor matter a lot. I’m not disputing raw is a useful tool for these cameras to have. I think that for me and probably most shooters they lose more than they gain by choosing raw. Sure it bypasses internal NR and color science, but are you really a good enough colorist that you’ll do a better job than Sony there? Their internal NR is always on for a reason, it’s really good. By removing it you force yourself to add a time consuming step in post for any shot that was on the edge and helped by the internal NR. I can and have already matched my FX3 easily to Alexa Mini, Komodo, DJI Osmo, and a bunch of other weird cameras. The image has the latitude to do all that already. Yes- raw of course makes the data more flexible. That’s by definition. And if Company 3 or FotoKem are doing my color and they want raw, I’ll give them what they want, DIT permitting. But if I’m doing my own post (all the time) I don’t care for raw files.

SO it is either Davinci in September 2025 or FCPX Now? So Braw will only work in Davinci , kind of the same problem then. Good for Davinci users in a year I guess. Who know what will come out before then. I saw your video on Pro Res Raw but didn't you actually say it was NO different than the internal codec? So why would Braw make it much of difference other than being able to use it in Davinci only?

Dynamic range will be the same, RAW doesn’t change the Log gamma signal from the camera, you will get more colors information compared to the internal recording though. RAW main advantage is the latitude that you get in post production for color grading and an efficient workflow.

BRAW and Slog3 aren’t the same thing. Slog 3 in a GAMMA CURVE. It records a certain range between the highlights and shadows. RAW is a bit like a codec, it’s how the image is packaged up into a file on a data card or hard drive. SLOG3 can be recorded with a variety of codecs including raw.

I’m still an amateur in the camera and filmmaking field, but love to keep up with all the future updates and technical innovations as with the b-raw because it seems that Resolve will not support prores raw in the near future regarding different stories between atomos and blackmagic… 🙄 But let’s say the B-Raw will become official-Most of the users know that the fx30 has a 6k sensor and they would love to have that through the raw output…so why wouldn’t Sony care of making that as a paid subscription/activation for their users? Wouldn’t it be a way for them to earn and keep the users? I sure would pay if it isn’t tje same price as the camera? Any thoughts? Oh, and great videos, thank you!!

Unfortunately you don’t get the full 6k sensor readout in the raw mode. You get 4.7k and it’s a crop on the sensor close to micro four thirds sized. For me I’ll end up using a speedbooster and EF lenses on the fx30 to get the most out of the raw mode

@@ReachFilms Not being able to edit metadata doesn't make Prores Raw only usable in Final Cut. You can import, color, and edit prores raw in Premier natively just fine. Which you can't do with Blackmagic Raw. So what about Media Composer, Edius Pro, Baselight, Assimilate.? Blackmagic Raw can't be imported into Premier natively and to be honest it's not even raw. It's partially debayered in camera .

I hope it's open gate for the fx30, otherwise recording in raw will still be completely impractical with the fx30. At least for me. Adding denoiser after the fact is still impractical for people who don't have a computer powerful enough to handle that

Unfortunately, that will NEVER happen, even the fx6 or fx9 doesn't have open gate.. Knowing sony, they would never EVER release that to the lower cameras even if it would be technically possible.. I love sony and I shoot with sony aswell but they really abandon their cameras pretty fast and drive people into buying newer models

@@andersistbesser I understand that, but the fx30 is already an aps-c sensor. So to add a crop on top of that becomes a bit much. I was more so concerned with purchasing a recording monitor only to realize that I would have to update my camera and my computer before I was able to capture anything usable. I think this update is awesome, I'm just going to have to update the rest of my gear first.

not too sure about that, just bc the sensor is the same doesn't mean the internals are. it doesn't have full size hdmi and without the fans it might be more difficult to handle too. theres a reason the cinema line exists and has more pro features

Well technically Sony has to, the big deal is if you already own the camera you can now choose which raw you want.
