The way they debuted this card in the anime was awesome and very reminiscent of when Yugi summoned Exodia. Yugi was losing and had to depend on specific cards in order to win. The way Pegasus was shook when Yugi summoned it helped portray BLS as a serious boss monster.

BLS being Gaia makes perfect sense considering each of Yugi's signature boss monsters are either alternate dimention versions of the Dark magician or upgrades forms of one. This goes even a step further as the dark magician has a Chaos upgrade as well who is a direct warrior reflection. Dark Magician is a level 7 spellcaster who has a level 8 spellcaster ritual upgrade in Magician of Black Choas. Gaia the Fierce Knight is a level 7 Warrior with a level 8 warrior ritual upgrade in Black Luster Soldier. Both would further get effect monster counterparta in Magician of Black Chaos and Black Luster Soldier:Envoy of the Beginning. Both have support spells including DMoC having Dedication Through Light and Darkness provide another summoning condition that hammers in the transformation of the focused monster into a higher form through a mix of light and dark spellcasting. Whats more about BLS:EotB is its connection to being on the level of Blue Eyes through ANOTHER card. Chaos Emperor Dragon: Envoy of the End is a destructive dragon type monster that IS BLS:EotB. If you pay attention to the hair, amormored scales, and overall design of the dreagon, you will realize it is just BLS transformed into one as his final form at the end of everything. This is fitting since it was not weirlded by Yugi but rather KAIBA. It was the version of BLS that he would naturally keep in his deck. The early sig/boss monsters had A LOT of hints to being alternate reality/themed versions of others that were fairly subltle in some caes but less in others.

Agreed, after getting back into Yu-Gi-Oh as an adult, and BLS being my favorite monster as a kid, I learned while making a deck around it that it is originally called "Chaos Soldier" and falls into a whole Chaos archetype. And ever since I refer to it as Chaos Soldier and not BLS

It represents Yugi as the younger form and Atem as the adult form because in the anime Atem can turn himself into the adult form chaos soldier a.k.a BLS 2. I never knew black luster soldier was basically gaia the fierce knight. Though looking at the face and the hair now I can definitely see that it is one and the other. It's things like that that make me interested in the yugioh universe even if I don't play the card game anymore or watch the anime. The Archetype itself sounds like it's pretty fun to use and why I'm not surprised that it would have a dark magician fusion lol. That's cause it's all based on the lure of wizards and warriors battling dragons. So hence they both are designed to do that since seto is Yugi's biggest rival and the only one he clearly views. As a threat since his deck is catered to combatting his deck and yet seto isn't given shit to do that against Yugi's deck is a crime in punishment

When I was a kid, the Black Luster Soldier was one of my all-time favorite Yu-Gi-Oh monsters. I loved the design of the card artwork, I loved how it had the same stats of the Blue-Eyes White Dragon, and I especially loved how Yugi summoned the Black Luster Solider in his debut episode. Just seeing Gaia and Kuriboh being sacrificed and then seeing Gaia running towards the Gateway of Chaos to become a brand-new monster, while at the same time Yugi creating a powerful speech involing the creation of this new monster sent chills down my spine. It was such a great moment. Hell, I even loved the scene when Yugi and Kaiba fused their Black Luster Soldier and Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon to create the monster Dragon Master Knight and destroy the Five-Headed Dragon/Mystic Dragon. Needless to say, I was obsessed with that card. Hell, I even remembered when me and my fellow classmates were discussing their favorite Yu-Gi-Oh cards, and I told them that Black Luster Soldier was my favorite. With that said, I don't remember if you already did this or not, but I think the next Archetype video should focus on the Chaos Archetype. Since you've already done the Gaia the Fierce Knight and Curse of Dragon Archetypes in the previous video and the Black Luster Soldier Archetype in this video, then it only makes sense to complete the trifecta by talking about the Chaos Cards.

I have a theory that Black Luster Soldier and Dark Magician might actually be related in some way but went their separate ways as brothers because Dark Magician engaged in the forbidden arts of sorcery while Black Luster was trained in combat and learned to be respectful of the Earth instead of using dark powers to overcome evil threats.

So if Black Luster Soldier is Gaia the Fierce Knight, a warrior known for riding dragons, and ends up riding a Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon: is it possible that Paladin of White Dragon is a young Gaia riding a young Blue Eyes? We don't have an individual monster for the rider, but he shows up in several artworks, and seems to be a green skinned human like Gaia, only he's wearing the Raregold Armor set instead of his normal set.

This is a minor detail. I'm not sure if it was done on purpose or a mere coincidence. In the Yugi vs. Mai duel, Yugi offered Gaia the Fierce Knight (level 7 EARTH) and Kuriboh (level 1 DARK) as tributes to summon the original ritual Black Luster Soldier (also EARTH). In 2004, Black Luster Soldier: Envoy of the Beginning (LIGHT) was released in Invasion of Chaos, which is around the time that Swift Gaia the Fierce Knight and Watapon were released. Swift Gaia is a DARK attribute version of Gaia with the same stats. Meanwhile, Watapon seems like a LIGHT Fairy-type counterpart of Kuriboh just with the ATK and DEF inverted. Both LIGHT and DARK are what need to be removed from play in order to special BLS:EotB. Anybody else notice that? Sidenote: also, included in the same booster set is Chaos Sorcerer. Same summoning conditions as BLS:EotB. To me, he looks a lot like like Gaia, same level and ATK but just 100 less DEF

This just came to me, but Sam forgot 2 cards: 1) Toon Black Luster Soldier (who is part of this archetype), it's summoning condition is the same as the og ritual spell, and has a double attack like bls-eotb (even though it's a toonified version of the og ritual monster) 2) Elemental Hero Neos Knight, visually its Neos with BLS' armor, but if BLS is the other fusion material monster, Neos Knight's atk goes up to 4000 (and has a double attack)

The "or Black Luster Soldier"" part of Magician of Chaos's effect, is because of BLS's Japanese name being Chaos Soldier. It's a constant problem caused by the early localization changes and an instance where they can't just rename the set because BLS is too iconic. Unlike Black Dragon's Hatchling which could escape being "Red-eyes B. Chick" because nobody actually played it

Fun fact: I use Black Luster Soldier - Soldier of Chaos in my Super Quant deck. It is convenient when I can't summon out Great Magnus right away, it can gain its protections from using Super Quantum White Layer, and thematically, it matches up with a few of the Super Quant's aesthetics. In particular, since the Super Quant's have a RGB light theme, since the combination of color light is white light, the absence of color is black. It is also a subtle reference to Super Sentai/Power Rangers, as occasionally, the team will have an additional member of the team that isn't a ranger themself, called an Extra Hero.

As someone who barely played Yu-Gi-Oh, I entered a play by post campaign that revolved around it (Duels included). I was the only person to use a Chaos deck, and honestly I lost almost every duel, but the other players said it was the scariest deck they played against. And I can confirm, BLS Envoy of the Beginning was one of my favorites in there. It wasn't y'know, perfect chaos. We randomly drafted cards, I just got hella lucky, but still. Felt very anime to just be on the back burner the entire time then just "Oh ok well guess we're scaring the hell out of them first huh?"

One lore theory I've had for a little while about the links between the Gaia Knight monsters and the Black Luster Soldiers: 'Gaia the Fierce Knight' isn't really a single knight, but rather represents an ORDER of Knights, with the numerous forms of the Gaia Knights representing various members or positions/ranks within the order. And the Black Luster Soldiers represent a select few members of the 'Gaia Knights' who have undergone the 'Black Luster Ritual' and passed through a 'Gate of Chaos', as we saw in Yugi's duel with Mai, to become one of these 'Super Soldiers' imbued with the power of Chaos.

Watching this video made me want to go back and watch a few of the first episodes and when I did, I saw a few things that I didn't notice before. 1. On episode 2, there is a poster of Black Luster Solider fighting agains Harpies Pet Dragon. 2. When Pegasus first challenges Yugi to a duel, it shows a glimpse of the final round with Yugi's Magician of Black Chaos attacking Pegasus's Thousand Eyes Restrict, winning the duel. 3. On the ship when Yugi and Joey first meet Weevil and he starts explaining how other duelists are trading cards, there is a short scene that shows a set of cards in their hand, that not only has Kunai with Chai, but also an Exodia piece, so that means that a kid planned on using Exodia in the tournament as well, but since he had it in his hand, he was probably trying to trade it and since Weevil has a habit of tossing cards off boats, perhaps Weevil did to him, what he did to Yugi.

BLS was always a pretty cool looking monster and still is cool to this day with the new ones. I even played the BLS deck in the rental duels that one event he was in it and had a 7-0 w/l with the mentioned rental deck. Not a single opponent also played the BLS deck either.

What they should do is make it into a show revolving around Dark Magician and meeting up with all these other boss monsters in which they all come together to join forces to battle some greater evil. Lets be honest DM literally is fusing with almost everyone. DM with DMG, REBD, BLS, BB, FS, etc. Would definitely watch it.

Black Luster Soldier name is kinda funny cause Dark Magician was originally called Black Magician but in translation the Black was changed to Dark Meanwhile Black Luster Soldier was Chaos Soldier. And the funny thing? Neither of these monsters are black. BLS is blue and Dark Magician is Purple. Its like how Blue Eyes isn't even White

Chaos Kuriboh is a fun deck since all but 1 of the Kuri monsters is light or dark, the 1 being Junkuriboh which is earth attribute, and no one expects BLS Envoy of beginning Chaos dragon in a kuriboh deck.
