I asked ChatGPT to make a list of the top 50 most used thai words with translations. Then I had it create a story using those 50 words as a script between two people. Then I fed the script back to a new thread to roleplay with Advanced Voice Mode to practice speaking and listening. Love it!

I love this, I have been learning Thai for over 40 years and go alright, but am shamed by many of the young you tubers who picked up what I know in a year. I will have to try this, I am sure that I will have the top 50, 100, 200, 500 words covered but then there will be gaps....this could be awesome for an old 61 year chap to start learning again :)

Thanks Stuart, I have also been finding ChatGPT useful, I’ve mainly been using it when I need help with reading (I’m not at a highly advanced level but getting a bit better!) and if I can’t figure out why a word is pronounced a certain way based on the letters, it often helps to clarify things for me.

That is quite impressive, especially how it indicated what to focus on and also said how your mispronounciation sounded more like the name of a colour (มว่ง) than เมือง. Simply saying a pronunciation is incorrect, without providing that kind of detailed and constructive feedback, can just lead to frustration for the learner.

I use a custom ChatGPT as my main tool to translate Thai / English. It is mainly very good, especially at explaining Thai, but unfortunately it is not 100% reliable and makes at times errors in translation and transliteration. To be sure, I often paste GPT results in Google Translate to compare.

I've asked gpt 4o to give me examples of the words with one syllable falling tone long vowel. Sometimes it gives wrong answers, sometimes it creates the words by itself that doesn't exist. When I've asked it to create some mnemonics, it also failed. So, I am waiting for the updates and using gpt to create the sentences with the words that I am asking.

Mr ChatGPT has a lot of patience. I just spent 30 minutes getting him to critique my saying of "มานอน". I still haven't gotten it right, but I think he is running out of ways to say, 'You're almost there.' Anyone else would have shouted, "stop saying man non" by now.

The accents works only in Thailand. Try to get the ChatGPT subscription in Austraila and you will receive Thai language translations with Aussie accent.

I don't have access to full ChatGPT but I've found that with other LLMs generally they prefer to use the same language you use over the language you ask them to use. But sometimes you ask in English how to use a particular Thai word and they reply fully in Thai. This must be a subtlety they haven't got good at yet. Or maybe it's partly overridden in the hand-coded rules they put like similar to how they put in the guardrails?

With chat gpt you can fill out some basic information you and your goals and how to you want chatgpt to respond and what you want it to assume for every prompt you type. It will follow your preferences if you simply define some in advance.

I feel like voice interfaces are really not how I would want to interact with a machine - ever. Just listening to how it drones on and on is not holding my attention. I could read that in half of the time an dwould be able to quickly jump over paragraphs that are not that interesting to me.

@@maxhakka2349 I had the same issue, I tried purposefuly speaking with bad pronounciation and wrong tones, and it told me i was perfect. Which is nice and all but not really productive

😂😂😂 If you desire English in Thai accent, try gemini, there is a bug that allows it but if you ask directly, it will say it is a racist thing to ask. This only works in mobile version of gemini

actually I found the bug in Gemini on mobile. Gemini needs to use Thai words in the beginning of the paragraph and keep english words to do Thai accent. Example: ไทย, Hello, I welcome no separate paragraph in response, How many colors do you know?

Write what you want to say in English in the English mode in Google translate, and then change to the Thai mode to hear a Thai person pronounce it.

It seems that it can speak Thai with a American accent or a Thai accent but could not speak English with a Thai accent. It could only speak English with an American accent.

Correct. You subscribed in USA. So you receive US accent only. ChatGPT can help you with grammar and other stuff except the accent.

AI will just get better and better and with that will come massive job losses in almost every sit down type of job,,,,,,if you have kids steer them towards trades.
