So many of Jeremy’s sins could be explained simply by reminding him that this is Judge Dredd, a man so “by the book” and instinctively certain about his judgement that he makes meter maids look laxed by comparison.
@selonianth4 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't exactly say he's so by the book, he does give the homeless guy a chance to get a move on, and does pass Anderson despite the multiple reasons to fail her that he points out.

So here’s my logic for using the hotshot round with that opening gangster: First up, it seems like the round being fired makes less noise than a standard bullet, giving the gangster less time to react and shoot the hostage. A normal bullet could also cause an involuntary squeeze of the trigger if it killed him outright, or not kill him straight away and give him a chance to shoot. The flare on the other hand draws it out and as you can see, gives the hostage a chance to duck away. Pretty smart move from my eyes at least.

You know what bugs me about the "Jeremy points out whatever is happening on screen and sins it" cliché is that 9 times out of 10 when he does it, it means he's basically trying to avoid saying "movie does not explain the thing" because the movie is 'showing not telling' and expects you to fill in the blanks. Whatever is happening on the screen that he's pointing out is literally explaining itself by just being on the screen, usually by building a scene/world/character with details about them that the lack of explanation implies to be taken as "that's just how it is" in-universe. Besides, you know full well if it explained it that directly or bluntly he'd immediately sin it for exposition or wasting time or something without a hint or irony. Honestly, what, really bugs me the most is that it's basically sinning a movie for being artistic, subtle or clever in some way and that just makes audiences and filmmakers worse for hearing and believing it.

Something that got me about a few of Jeremy's sins in this movie was that he was operating off of the belief that a lot of these criminals would have trials - like, modern day court room trials - when the crime rates are so bad that they just don't have time for it; Hence why Dredd says that they are "Judge, Jury and Executioner." They don't have time for that shit, they can only respond to 6% of crime, the justice system has to divert its resources where they count and it's not in a court room.

As someone who grew up with 2000AD and dredd, I thought this movie was about as good an adaptation as any hollywood traslation is likely to be. Some of the scenes did a really impressive job of making beautiful cinematography from extreme violence, the grim atmosphere of Mega-City One and the dark anti-hero character of Dredd were captured fairly well, and most importantly Karl Urban didn't insist on having his face visible unlike Stallone in the awful 90s version.
