10:47. The Genie's rules aren't so much "plot convenient" as they are ways of avoiding cheap and lazy writing hacks. Like. Not being able to kill anyone: So Aladdin, and later Jafar, can't simply wish for other's death, and end the movie prematurely. Can't make anyone fall in love: Aside from the free will thing, it allows Aladdin and Jasmine's relationship to grow organically and have obstacles that'll make the happy ending feel more genuine and earned. Can't bring anyone back from the dead: To ensure there are stakes and tension in the final battle, and avoiding the classic "Disney Death" Can't grant more than three wishes: That way the characters can't just "reset" if their wishes go wrong and actually have to be careful about what they wish for.

15:30 The actual problem with Jeremy’s sin was the fact that The Sultan could not have done this while under Jafar’s control. The fact that Jeremy assumes that just letting his daughter - who expressed no interest in marrying anyone she’d met in the beginning of the film - marry who ever she deemed worthy was even possible before any of the events presented (in addition to all the work Aladdin put in) means Jeremy was, as usual, paying no attention.

My one complaint with the original Aladdin is that when Jasmine figures out that Prince Ali’s “the boy from the market” her reaction is “Why did you lie to me? Do you think I’m stupid?” instead of the more appropriate “Why did you lie to me? I thought you were dead!” You know, because the last time Jasmine heard of Aladdin, Jafar said he was already sentenced to execution?

Don't know about that but Jasmine can. In the cartoon she gave her life to protect a couple of kids when this ancient being came to Agrabah to judge it and then found it lacking. Jasmine pushed a couple of kids out of the way and literally died, Aladdin was holding her body when the being came and revived Jasmine and told them "It isn't your accomplishments that make your city great, but the people in it."

To Jeremy: the entire disney renaissance was dark. The hunchback of notre dame was the darkest. Honestly making it dark can help children learn that life is difficult and not fairies and rainbow all the tome. They also teach children that hope can exist in the darkest of times.

It's impressive to me, as a KZbinr. KZbin can be extremely lucrative. They average roughly $3-4k per video, and they release two a week. You know what else is funny? I was born in 2002, could've watched Aladdin as a tiny child, but didn't see it until I was thirteen, somehow. Then, at sixteen, I became a Beatlemaniac, courtesy of my baby boomer parents, and binge watched the Beatles Anthology with them, which includes the historical footage of the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show. So, despite being nineteen in 2021, I have understood the Ed Sullivan reference in Aladdin perfectly since age sixteen. You can't rule out lucky individuals. :)
