Me. I still play it. It's a good way to practice shots when I can't get down to the pub with friends. Yes, the physics are actually good enough in this that it can make you a better shot IRL if you play it enough!

Around the 4:20 mark you mention a pool ELO system; there is one that many tournaments and leagues world wide use. It's called FargoRate [Named out of Fargo, ND] It's very widely used even on the highest professional level - its inner workings are ELO based.

The earliest 3D pool simulation that I'm aware of is 3D Pool, which came out for various computers in 1989. Of course there were 2D pool simulations before that, but that was the 3D one that I know of. Now, 3D pool games are quite common on a range of systems.

@@shaun8062 It's really good! It feels as real as a pool game on the N64 possibly could. You draw the cue back and push it forward using the thumbstick, and when you miss a shot it feels like your own fault, and not like the game somehow screwed you.

3player pool game-Philly-was my favorite. Each player chooses their 5 ball set, 1-5, 6-10 or 11-15. Object is to hit the opponent’s balls in. You shoot until you miss, also you can sacrifice 1 of your balls if that’s your only shot to keep going but you gotta have at least 1 ball left on the table. If you scratch tho the other 2 players get to bring a ball back into play and place it at the “break dot”. Games can go on for a long time. Great bar game if it’s an open/free table. Well, it lacks billiards, it lacks Snooker. Those were in some PC games of the series (but then - I only had Virtual Pool Hall). So that seems to be a pool simulation that came rather early in the series.

It's based on the second Virtual Pool game, I think. The first one had flat-shaded graphics, and I'm not sure it had the physics for jump-shots yet. I really wish this one had Snooker.

It looks shinier, more HD, has a few more game modes, video tutorials and an online mode. Having said that, it probably plays roughly the same. The physics have likely been tweaked since this game, but I'd say Celeris are still using largely the same physics model they established on the original Virtual Pool in 1995.

Before watching this video....all i gotta say is this game SUCKS. I love playing pool IRL. I bought this game awhile back to try, and i quit after like 15 minutes. Its so bad.
