Southern Thailand is home to an amazing array of Thai curry, and in my opinion, Nakhon Si Thammarat (นครศรีธรรมราช) is one of the best eating provinces in Southern Thailand. The province is also known for generally having some of Thailand’s spiciest, fiercest dishes.
Khao Gaeng Sudyod Saphan Yao (ครัวป้าจง ข้าวแกงสุดยอดสะพานยาว) is one restaurant you don’t want to miss when you’re in Nakhon Si Thammarat. I took an unofficial count of the different Thai dishes they had prepared on the day I ate here, and it was over 75, and they had a few more dishes on the side, like side dips and salads that I forgot to cook. The display of Thai curry is enough to make cry tears of joy.
Here are the Thai curry dishes I ordered:
Gaeng taypo hua pla (แกงเทโพหัวปลา) - fish head curry with coconut milk
Gaeng khua hoy kom (แกงคั่วหอยขม) - Thai river snails curry
Yam pla chichang (ยำปลาฉิ้งฉ้าง) - green mango and dried fish salad
Yam boo kaem (ยำปูเค็ม) - raw rice paddy crab salad with sour tamarind
Gaeng khua gai baan (แกงคั่วไก่บ้าน) - spicy free range chicken curry
Total price - 290 THB ($8.51)
I think it was a pretty amazing deal for Ying and I to both eat a big huge meal and we were stuffed afterwards. An amazing choice of Southern Thai food, and good prices as well.

Those Kiss Shells (3:24) are so nostalgic for me. I grew up with my grandparents in Taiwan. We would always go to the riverbanks to pick these up. Grandma would dry-wok them with chili, ginger, and garlic. You have to get them out with a toothpick - unless people in Thailand kiss like a vacuum cleaner! Love this. Thank you!

Mark Wiens - FYI those snails, hoy-jub, are actually saltwater snails, and the English name is periwinkle. I also love to eat them prepared in any of several ways. Fried with Thai basil and chili is good. One other factoid is that they all needs to have the rear end of the shelf chopped off, to allow air to get inside, otherwise you would not have been able to suck out the meat! Needless to say that it is very easy to miss a few while doing the preparation, and that is why that first one refused to come out of the shell. I do love watching your video, which reminds me so much of the "old days ".

Chawalit tb no, they are saltwater snails. The giveaway is the shell. The next time that you are near a pond, take a good look at the little watersnail and you will see that they have very smooth and very thin shell. On the other hand, when you are at the beach, any beach, there is a good chance that you will find the empty shells of the snails that we are talking about! Heck, when I was little, and that was many decades ago, I had learned to use an empty hoy-jub shell placed between my fingers and producing very loud whistle when I blow hard!

Chawalit tb - OK, perhaps you are right! I had another look at the snails on larger monitor, and not on my small tablet, and the snails might be หอยขม, which is freshwater snails rather than the saltwater one that I had in mind! :)

It is so strange idea that someone Thai will put anything or spit in it. Maybe it’s common in your country. Cover all food is a good idea but I don’t think anything will change to your way because they have so many food. Thai customers want to see food right away.
