it always cracks me up, the powers that were want "anti bullying campaigns" but the truth is if you don't teach compassion -kindness and patience it's a no go. Lead by example and invite that gentle spirit in all of us to flourish.

When your child grows up Owning a farm with 100 cows or buffaloes is easy in Thailand. The two cows you buy today will not exceed 10 years. If you take animal farming seriously in Thailand, you will be able to live comfortably.

This video resonates with us so much, your reasons for not moving back to the UK are exactly the same as ours. With regards to education, we couldn't agree more! Children learn so much more outside of the classroom and the quality of life is so much better out here. We too would rather spend more time with our children than be stuck in the rat race and only be able to have their company on evenings and weekends. Well said, you and Damo are doing great! 👏🙏

I'm 60 now, I grew up in a regional farmland in southern Australia, I was government education.....for a brief time, but may I say the life lessons I learnt living on a farm for all my primary years still holds my all my current value's and has kept me grounded throughout my life. Early learning of rural life builds a base for the realities of life.

Hello Ryan.. I'm a pretty new subscriber, but i've followed you and your lovely family since Paddy Doyle was visiting. And he was going to take care of your daily work, and you were doing his. And one thing that struck me as an observer who doesn't know you - is that, what an incredible wonderful family you have. Damo is a wife to die for. And an lovely mother to you're kids. I don't know much about how the schools are in England, since im from Sweden. But they are probably more swedish than thai? And the number one thing that struck me when i first saw your vlog. Was that, what a wonderful/carefree childhood your kids are getting there in Buriram, that is worth so much more than just staring at grades with western eyes. If they want to pick up on a "western education"? They've got plenty of time to do that later in life. I whole-heartedly support you, and Damos choice to stay in Thailand. They are growing up in an almost Bilbo Bagger-like place. (I mean that as a compliment) You have a life and a family to be proud of Ryan. And looking forward to hopefully many more videos to come.. *Ps. Shout-out to Paddy Doyles vlog, that made me find your's. All the best Ryan and Damo! From a cold and dark Stockholm, Sweden. You have a wonderful life in Thailand with your lovely wife and children Ryan! From an outsider looking in…it’s true luxury! You’re surrounded by nature and you can do whatever you want 😊 Growing up in the late 70’s in San Francisco, my siblings and I were considered as latchkey children:( Parents were at work and we didn’t see them until almost dinner time (7:00pm) Otis is a very lucky child in my opinion because you’re always there and you have wonderful quality time with him! You are a very smart individual not to mention profound! I’m so glad to have found your channel and hope to be able to meet you one of these days 😊 Thanks for posting this video 🙏🏼

Use the black shade cloth for the carport. Air passes through. You can put plastic under if you want rain protection. The shade cloth will protect the plastic from sun damage. Look for the higher % sunblock.

Fascinating Ryan, I was hooked from start to finish. Particularly regarding the rice whiskey problem where thai men are concerned. I've witnessed this myself in our village, I don't blame them for drinking, it's their way of dealing with a life of little reward and virtually zero prospect of progression. Thai women seem to have a different outlook on life in general.

Yes, this year has not been so good for rice farmers here around Khon Kaen. It has not just been the lack of rain, but our crop was ruined by the heavy rain late on, just as it was starting to ripen. We have managed to salvage some, but as it all flat, the harvester cannot cut it so it is having to be harvested by hand! Backbreaking work for my wife as she won't allow me top help as she is afraid I might have another stroke. I wholeheartedly agree with you about the boy's education and the advantages of living the rural life here. The sort of happiness you have achieved cannot be bought in the UK unless you are loaded with money. Anyway, just a small point about your friendly "cow". I may be wrong but I think that it is actually a bullock. It's a good job that you aren't a cattle farmer! God bless you all 😀❤🙏

You are so spot on with your reasons for not wanting to return to the UK. The education system here has changed from teaching to indoctrination. The mood and morale here is dire, there is little faith in the government and the cost of living is through the roof. From what I have seen the health system and the education system are far better than here, I have been waiting since June for an ENT appointment and just told that the NHS is busy. The government want to hand over control of our health to the WHO and they want mandatory control. And, we have the same concern over digital currency as you. No, my advice would be to stay where you are, I hope to move over to Surin next year. Just signed up to Surfshark with your code. Cheers ED 🙏🏻

@@thenakedguruBelieve me, as a Brit living in Thailand, moving back to the UK would be the biggest mistake of your life. The entire country is collapsing, nothing works, extortionate prices, crime through the roof, 1.2million legal migrants and almost 100 thousand illegals in dinghies since Jan 2022, schools and universities are now indoctrination factories teaching kids to hate our history, men can be women and on and on it goes including 8 million NHS backlog. Over 600,000 people have left the UK in the past year, they just couldn't wait to get out. I took my kids out of school and homeschooled before moving to Thailand, best decision I ever made! Stay where you are Ryan, seriously 👍

Complete understand what you are saying but just think what the Brits did to those colonized countries for over 50 to 100 years making those within their own country as second class citizens. Most are ended getting killed or slaved. As I recalled, Thailand came close to be colonized by UK and France but didn't.

I love your comments about the education system, my wife and I have just celebrated 50yrs married, she grew up and was educated in the public/private system in Bangkok, and I can remember seeing her nieces and nephews learning everything by rote in the class of 60 kids. She moved to Australia and we raised our kids there. Mother in Law came for 2 weeks and never went home, so our kids answered in whatever Language they were spoken to in. Also we have Been Guardian to many Thai Kids sent to study Secondary school from various levels of Thai Society, and kids from the Government system are generally better learners, possibly because of their street cred. My Son relocated to Bkk years ago and his kids are born here, the youngest 7yrs can answer back in about 4 languages, English, Thai, Burmese and Hindi/Nepalese. The maids in the complex just chat and its just another word the kids learn. I am sure yours will be speaking Thai, Khmer and English fluently as they grow. Finally one of our Grand nieces in another Province is in the same English comp as your son, they may face of in the national final...Heres hopeing, really enjoy your Vlogs

About 15 years ago I taught English to first-year engineering students at Kaset Sart University in Bangkok. It was a requirement that the students pass the course to go on to the second year. I didn't know this at the time and failed 2 students who over the year were incapable of speaking 1 word of English. This turned into a 'Big Ploblem' as the parents had already paid the next year's fees. I was summoned to the 'Head Aministors office' where the dilemma was discussed as was the payment of my salary and the renewal of my contract. As it turned out the 2 students had exceeded the required 75% attendance requirement and on that basis we all agreed they could 'pass' and go onto the 2nd year. What a joke but 'Hey TIT'

Great vlog Ryan. Retired and 65, I still work/am active during the day, night time drinks only! Thais always/mostly let their light shine is why we love it here. Smiles and laughs is a big reason life is better here. You have a good outlook on life and education, the future for the children will be as good as they and you can make it anywhere you are, and where you are is better than so many places in the world. "Contentment and nature is key to a happy productive life" Thoreau? 555 Peace and Love guys PS. Many farangs want to take their wifes or children back to the UK or wherever they grew up and I never saw the point as relatives can come see you here.... plus the amount of money to show your Thai family the countryside of UK or cities is unnecessary IMO

We got a lot of rice this year; well over 400 bags of rice. With the disasters in China one would have expected the price to have gone up a lot but it hasn't in reality. I would think that if you kept the rice in stock for 6 months, the price would go up.

But I dont think we can use "cold" or compare it to the UK, when average day time temps are 26-27°c and overnight 12-14°c. Most people in the UK cannot comprehend that for educated people in SE Asia their life chances are much better in SE Asia than the UK. Where I live in Indonesia may not be perfect and the labour market for graduates somewhat imperfect, it's got to be better than working on a checkout at Morrisons. Yes prices are rising fast in SE Asia, but last time I was in the UK I was simply gobsmacked. With most people in northern UK reliant on Food Banks, at least we have the land in our home towns in SE Asia.

I would totally agree with the points you have raised with regards to bringing up your kids in Thailand. I think your whole family is at peace and though not without its stresses, it’s about happiness. I have not lived in England since 2001. I will eventually return but I have to say, my kids, who are grown up now, find life in U.K. not easy. Damo is happy and so are your kids…don’t fix something that’s not broken. The only part now is for you to be able to handle it. I think if your family all came to U.K., you would find it incredibly hard. My kids were eventually brought up in Dubai. Life was a lot safer and they became more well rounded. I think you have done your job as a parent when your kids turn out good and well balanced in addition to saying later on, they had a happy childhood. The crap I have seen in the U.K. is astounding. Kids as young as 10 dealing drugs in the school playground….just one example. Stay where you are and lead as peaceful happy life.

An interesting vlog. My wife bought one of those 'tents' with the cover like tissue paper. It lasted five minutes. I suggested covering it with plastic garden netting, just for shade. It fell on deaf ears. The skeleton is on the lawn like a monument. Re education. With my son I read stories to him every night before he went to sleep and eventually got him reading out loud and corrected him with the pronunciation. By reading the stories out loud he got the correct pronunciation and went on to winning National public speaking competitions. In my opinion, speaking English English, not Thai English, is a great asset for Thai children. He was educated in Thai, public schools .Plus a few extra lessons in non English subjects. This is just my experience and not intended as a Mr. Know All. I love the videos.

Same thing where I was living in the U.S it would cost about 600,000 baht, almost $20,000 U.S Dollars just on land taxes a year plus mortgage, utilities, and maintenance for a about 4 Rai of land. Plus I would have to get permits for the six fish ponds I have. I'm mortgage free, no taxes and can live for 100 baht a day for local Thai foods or sometimes less. With The life style I'm living here in Thailand I would have to be multi millionaire in the U.S. if you make it work in Thailand there's definitely a really good quality of life that you can not have in the U.S or Europe.

To be honest home-grown English education is good, but has always generally been class based and is mostly dependent on money and the ability to pay, and has promoted more idiots to positions of power with a free pass with the old school tie particularly Politicians, most normal people prefer a common-sense honest person with a lesser education to a dishonest one with a nice tie

It's too late for the UK now. Political Correctness, massive immigration from incompatible ideological cultures, and the Left in general, have ruined that country forever. Here in Australia, we can't keep up with the amount of UK immigrants coming here, all fleeing their country for a 'better' life. If you speak to them, most will cite these reasons for leaving, hoping the same won't happen in Australia, but, I have bad news for you. The same thing is happening here now, albeit 10 years later. The same political mistakes, the same influence from the Left, and the same PC BS creeping in. You are in the right country to survive the future Ryan. Stay there and prosper. Look after your family, appreciate your simple life, and thrive in that environment, before this Western sickness comes to Thailand. Hopefully it never will.

A good and dedicated student can succeed anywhere. I took my thai step son to Australia from the age of 6 and to be honest he wasted the opportunity, despite my best interests he never had any interest in school and l always wonder if it was because he started from behind and it put him off. I also think he would have had a much better childhood in the village.

Uk is not what it once were. You are clearly making the right decision. If they want to do careers, there will be plenty of opportunities in Bangkok when they are old, especially as native English speakers. Also understanding both the west and Thailand.

Agree on your school assessment. We live in the province (Philippines) and life is very similar to yours. Our 9 year old attends the local gov. school. Can't say the quality us as good as the US, but none of the problems either. Her 19 yr. old sister is living in the city and is self supported (not the norm). Curious about the tree outside your front door. The one with horizontal branches. I was told it is an African (something). Is it native there? What do you know about it?

I would say that going to a Thai State school is better for children especially for children in a village socialising with others. The only advantage of going to a Private school for children would be for networking with wealthier people that I personally don't think is a good idea.

I think the right choice is to be where you are, where you are happiest. You only know that. For me there is almost a snobby attitude that UK/Wester education is superior to Thai education. If you have great teachers, willing to nurture the children and invest in them then it does not matter where you are. It also comes down to the children being willing to engage and learn. To give a child the freedom to be outside, playing freely, no worry of busy traffic, strangers all around, amongst nature and amongst friends and family….that is worth everything. Innocence and security. My eldest had 18 months in a Thai kindergarten, it was great for him. On his return to live in the UK he was placed in a local Catholic School. That was 4 years of hell for him. Because his English was lacking he was pretty much binned off by the piss poor teaching staff. They didn’t assist him to bring him forward in his learning. Final straw was a call from the head teacher threatening to exclude him for being disruptive. I removed him with immediate effect. Placed in another multicultural school 200 yards away, amazing teaching staff. They worked hard to get him to where he should have been. He’s now thriving in secondary education. Education is only as good as the provider of the education.

You’re absolutely correct in allowing Otis to be schooled in Thailand as you suggest a mixed race child in England would almost certainly be bullied. Ryan, nowadays England is a mess and a dumping ground illegal immigrants, so stay where you are mate.
