CHIANG MAI, THAILAND - We’re in Chiang Mai and on our way to eat at Krua Lawng Khao (ครัวหลองข้าว), a fantastic northern Thai food restaurant. They serve the full range of homestyle food, but I’m going to show you some of the plant focused dishes you can try. Let’s go eat! #ChiangMai #ThaiFood
Krua Lawng Khao (ครัวหลองข้าว) is located just outside of the Chiang Mai city, in a Mae Rim, within a quiet neighborhood and surrounded by rice paddy fields. They serve a wonderful menu full of classic and homestyle northern Thai food. Although you’ll find everything on their menu, there’s also a lot of healthy options to choose from - dishes that are vegan, predominantly vegetarian, or that can be ordered vegetarian. So we’re going today to eat northern Thai food that’s plant based!
We had a fantastic meal and I especially loved their pounded young jackfruit salad and chiang da leaves.

It is amazing how much vegan food you find in asia that are actually tasty and healthy! Eating some raw veg like cucumber as a side is something I have seen in other soutasian countries as well. I remember in Bangladesh, they used to serve a side with cucumber, green chillies and a few others in almost every restaurant I went to. This video made me want to visit nothern Thailand to taste this amazing food. Also, I really like this video format which doesn't have too much background music and is slow paced like a VLOG. I love plant based meals. Curious if you still eat eggs or dairy products or are you more on the vegan end. I myself have been vegan for many years but been craving eggs recently.

@@mcarbone4 Whole Foods, Plant-Based, NoSOS (No salt, oil, sugar). I started out vegetarian in 2016 after winding up in the hospital for a week with pneumonia. I had a hard couple months trying to recover from it. My pcp (doctor) is the one who introduced me to wfpb. After that pneumonia, they’ve diagnosed me over 16 health conditions. High blood pressure, high cholesterol and triglycerides, type 2 diabetes with insulin resistance and diabetic neuropathy, congestive heart failure, copd, pulmonary embolism, polycythemia, leukocytosis, uterine and breast cancer, and so much more. I got off of the wfpb band wagon for a couple of years, and just went down hill. I feel and do better when I eat that way. Easier to lose weight, too, and keep it off. I know a few people who are wfpb but not 100%. Some are like 70 to 30, meaning 70% wfpb, 30% not. Some are 80/20, some 60/40, some 90/10 pr 100. 🙂

About the spicy taste in Nam Prik Noom, if you want a spicy taste in it you have to add prink ki noo or some type of chillii that make a spicy taste in that dip, instead of using just a Prik Noom(the big chilli). BTW Nam Prik Noom is also the base of many Nam Prik in Nothren of Thailand. For example Nam Prik Plara is mixed from Nam Prink Noom(less salt) and Prara(fermented fish), Nam Prik Pla is mixed from Nam Prik Noom and Grilled or boiled fish, etc. Hope everyone enjoy Northern Thai food like mark 😁

I didn't know chayote is found in Thailand and eaten raw. Chayote is called iskus in Nepal, Darjeeling and Sikkim. Chayote plant is the only plant I have ever seen of which every part is edible . Root, stem and fruit. From your channel, i have found that there's a lot of similarities in the food habit of Thai and eastern Himalayan people.

Yay, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Nam prik noom dip! It is green gold to me and I always wondered what chili is used? I am in America so not sure if I can buy or grow it. There are only a couple places that do this is my area and they serve it with fried chicken leg quarter and sticky rice! I always ask for double the sauce bc I can just eat the heck outta it.
