Thai Green Curry Reviews: The best Thai curry brand (2021)

Hi guys!
In this curry review session. I conduct the test by selecting different curry brands that I used while I was working overseas. The curry that I will be making today is Thai Green Curry.
Here is the list of the brand that I will be making:
1) Mae Ploy
2) Mae Sri
3) Lobo
4) Blue Elephant
My friend Stefan and Por will be doing a blind tasting and gives their opinion on which curry bowl they like the most and which one they think it tastes the most authentic.

I love how they double dip and no one is freaking out. I live in Canada and I want to be able to make my own green curry but the ingredients are difficult to come by. The green curry that I get fro the grocery store is Thai Green Curry from President's Choice. Green curry is my favorite type of curry. I appreciate all the trouble you went through to make this review. Great video, thank you!!

I live in Toronto. May I ask which province you live in? PC green curry is the sauce (not paste). You might be able to order the ingredients online. However unless you cook Thai food all the time and are able to access fresh ingredients it is probably better to buy a paste.

Mae Ploy is the only one I have been using. My local Thai restaurant waitress told me the secret recipe of its Spicy Beef uses this curry, well, it actually is a dish of Pad Kra Pao, using ground beef instead of chicken. Yes, the drawback of Mae Ploy is too salty, so I'll try the Lobo later. Thank for the video.

Great video! I would love to see more videos like this reviewing pastes/sauces/spices. It's really helpful for someone like me (in the UK) who doesn't have the time to make dishes from scratch. Knowing which pastes taste authentic and are best to cook with are a real help!

I buy Aroy -D and Mae Ploy brands and usually add fish sauce, kaffir lime and palm sugar. Now I want to try the LOBO brand the Thai girl chose 😋 Luv Thai food! Also I think Amazon has these brands in case they can't be found locally.

Thanks for the tasting review. Never tried these curries before. I always wanted to try the (red and) green curry but sadly this brand (LOBO) is not sold in Europe (as far as I know). Maybe the other ones are available.Will look into that.

Hello Brian, I think in Europe you can get Mae Ploy brand. Probably the most common. I like the Red and Massaman Curry paste of Mae Ploy 😀 especially using them to make satay sauce 👌👌

Best packaged one I’ve tasted is the Nittaya brand from Thailand. My local Thai grocery store in NYC Chinatown gets them in a few times a year and I load up. They must be stored in a refrigerator. I found their Green and Panang to be my favorites…very tasty and well-balanced. And thank you for the video! It was great!

Hello Ken, Thank you for the comment! Yes, Nittaya is the old brand that has authentic taste. My grandma used to buy curry paste fresh from Nittaya shop and cook for me 🙂. I never know that you can find it overseas. Good to know! Next time I will look for it.

I tried a green curry paste in Spain and was too much spicy (hot) for my kids. I know spicy is very important in Thai food, but anyone knows a brand that makes green curry paste no spicy? I will put chilli to taste to add spiciness.

Hello Toni, The best way I have tried to solve this problem is to mix the paste with more fresh herbs like lemongrass and add some Thai basil leaves to the paste. This will help reduce the spiciness and still keep the rich flavour. I hope this help! Thank you for watching the videos.
