My mother is from Thailand and I want to learn how to communicate with not only her but the rest of my relatives who still reside in Udon Thani, Thailand. Thank you. This first lesson was engaging :) I will continue to watch.

Thank you for this series. I am subscribed to a few learning Thai channels and yours is one of the easiest for a slow learner like me. My brother lives in Thailand and I was there in March to visit him. He taught me a few simple phrases then. One day I worked up the nerve to use those phrases and was surprised I was understood. I was corrected in a nice way on my pronunciation of krup by one woman and she had me say it a few times until it sounded correct to her. I still have a problem saying it, but Thai people know what I am trying to say. I am going back there in January and I want to learn as much of the Thai language as I can in the interim.

We understand your confusion. It's tricky to write Thai with Roman letters. Anyway, (s)crub would be closer to Thai pronunciation than clap with an r. The proper way is to pronounce all sounds as in krup but it's ok to say klup and kap as well. (Not sure if this made the topic any less confusing...?)

Hi. I am confused on how the word krap is pronounced. I go a thai lady for a massage. We are both trying to help each with other with our languages. I told her krap can mean something else in english. She told me it is pronounced clap, as in clapping hands. But later she told it was pronounced krub as in scrub. I've also it spelt krup, and krep. Although I can't say it was always by thai. Today i found a website that says thai's pronounce it kap.

You guys are freaking awesome! I was filming in Thailand, and I wish you were there to be in my new show! You are naturals! But one question. IF you are a man - talking to a woman, do you say Sawatee Ka or Sawatee Krap?
@Aotearoa_Kiwi5 жыл бұрын
If you are a man, you always say "sawasdee krup". If you are a woman, you always say "sawasdee ka". It doesn't matter who you are speaking to, it is always the same.
