Thailand cave rescue: first pictures of boys recovering in hospital

The twelve boys and their football coach's ordeal began two and a half weeks ago when they first became trapped in the flooding caves. It took nine days before they were found deep below ground, cowering on a mud shelf.
They finally began to be brought out on Sunday and today we saw the first pictures of them sitting up in hospital, wearing masks to protect them from infection and waving to their parents. More details have also been emerging of how the daring rescue took place.

Randy Brady their coach, who is also a monk, had the boys meditate for hours at time to stay calm in the days before they were discovered. He's largely responsible for the eventual happy ending IMO

So impressed with the Thai leaders' refreshing modesty and honesty viz a viz the difficulties involved in this emergency rescue. Their determination and sheer 'do or die', D-Day attitude is clearly what crystalized the 'now or never' focus of what could so easily have been a mortuary recovery. Mission impossible made mission accomplished. And may I also congratulate the Thai and international divers, as well as Thai medical colleagues for their impeccable care. From a medical perspective, to say this was a complex procedure would be no exaggeration. I would like to close my comment with the most important point of all. So long as we celebrate and find out more about this amazing human interest story, let us us also celebrate and find out more about the very special person who risked his life to save those who were trapped - but lost that battle. God use these young men to bring out the love for each other in the world and makes us wake up to our feelings and compassion for each other. So glad they all are doing good. I watched the tv a while and shed tears and cried when I saw them coming out and so amazed about the whole situation and their coach was a hero with his caring for the boys and keeping them calm. As a adult who can't swim I can tell you I would have major problems dealing with what they did so bravely. MUCH LOVE HUGS AND PRAYERS. Miles keep us a part but you will always be in my heart..Nana

Too premature to say they are mentally fine. PTSD kicks in later as they re-enter their lives. They are still in the trauma phase and survival mode. PTSD happens later. It's too soon to say. I hope someone there understands that and doesnt abandon the care on these boys

Fantastic news they were all brought out alive and the divers did such an excellent job. Sad about the poor diver who lost his life may he R.I.P. Wonderful to see them all looking well and happy . Bottom line is this: Those 12 kids and a coach have been through 2 and a half weeks of an unbelievable ordeal that no human should ever go through. Thank God and every single person that helped to get them out of that cave safely. The Thailand Navy seal that ended up losing his life should be recognized as a Hero among Heros. Condolences to his family and friends. Very Thankful that they are safe.
