Single, never married, no kids, no family. Don’t drink, athletic and healthy lifestyle. Loneliness is the biggest one everything you said was accurate. You could probably do a video just on loneliness.

You are in a very healthy position from the start. Yeah keeping busy is a sneaky one. Nobody sees loneliness coming.

Exactly, good for you, you don't have to worry about anybody but you. But being lonely can be depressing which can lead to suicide and that's the American way everywhere.

Writing as a Thai expat of 27 years, every word is spot-on. The only thing I'd say is right near the end on complaining, if it's a foreigner-owned/run place, you have a very good chance of it being dealt with. As an example, I was in an Irish pub and my roast chicken arrived stone-cold, as if straight out of the fridge. I returned it, the manager came over and not only deleted the item from the bill but gave my sister who was with me and I free Irish coffees. Unlikely to happen in a Thai-run place, I admit.

very good point. I have been to Thailand so many times and I can only agree with this list. I just learned a few things I forget to mention.

Out of all the above loneliness is the biggest one. It's one thing to visit Pattaya, enjoy the nightlife ad all the fun but it's a whole different thing living in Pattaya. You don't really go out every night(you better not😅), the magic is kinda fading and you have to get used to just be there. The key IMO is trying to keep yourself "busy" with things... A tight busy daily schedule... It can be gym, yoga, golf, learning the language, hiking, cycling... Just be busy! Being alone in Pattaya will drive u nuts if you have too much of a time to "think" lol..... And don't, don't even look to make yourself busy with girls and going out every night as you gonna destroy yourself financially and emotionally. Been there, done that. Don't! 😅😅

Wise advice. I’ve mentioned it in many of my videos, if you’d don’t treat this like your home and behave as such, you’ll never make it. As much as it sounds amazing, nobody can live on permanent vacation.

The slow pace was certainly an issue for me. In my case, my thai wife and I bought a condo (which you are against, I know) and the problem we faced was that, (1) There were some very strict deadlines WE had to keep, (2) Since we were NOT in Thailand at the time, there were specific questions we needed to have answered YET the realtor NEVER answered quickly enough if ever, (3) YET the realtors kept pushing us to meet specific deadlines while NOT answering our VERY IMPORTANT inquires. You get the dillema? It's MUCH harder than anyone would imagine especially in important situations.

Once again, I am grateful for the information you bring forward. This video is the first time you've told me anything that I found discouraging. I do have moderate asthma. How is the burning season north of Chiangmai in Chiangroi? Or perhaps east near the border of Viet-Nam or way south towards Malaysia? Do you think there is anywhere to escape the polution?

North is worse. Islands like Samui and Phuket are your best options.

Remember there is life outside Pattaya, Phuket and Bangkok. It’s not the same life, but it’s a good life. While those cities are the best choice for party oriented people and those that require larger cities and the diversity of interesting things big cities provide, there are good alternatives like Hua Hin, Rayong, Khon Kaen etc. great information in this video. Traffic accidents are REAL!! Making friends with Thai men as a man will not happen (unless you are a gay man seeking other gay men). Bottom line, be true to yourself and keep your wits about you. The temptation is real, but the benefits IMO outweigh the negatives. Good luck.

Very true about the non Karen culture. If the food is wrong, you don’t complain here, instead you choose to eat it or not, and you pay for it. Then if you chose not to eat the food you go ten feet away to the next eating opportunity (there is literally different food choices every 10 ft in Thailand) and order more food. And this is possible because food is very inexpensive. A badly prepared meal that doesn’t meet your expectation will usually be between $2 - 3 US dollars so fighting constantly (verbally) doesn’t make sense in a country where that behavior is heavily frowned upon. That can be hard to get accustomed to. And as said in the video, if you can’t leave the confrontational angry mindset behind, you will have a lot of frustration in Thailand. This video series has practical, useful information to help anybody’s experience here in Thailand whether short or long term. Thanks for sharing your experience with others.

I put the bringing me the wrong food as my issue, I can’t talk Thai so give them the benefit of the doubt. 9/10 time the Dish is better than what I intended in the first place 😂. I also have issues with older Thai ladies could be called Karen’s, always try push in front of me but the cashier puts them in their place to their dismay . Maybe this is always at big C the Walmart of Thailand lol

One thing that concerns me is the overly broad definition here of "work". I like building things and that can be considered a crime here. Painting your own place can come with a big fine. Woodworking is right out. Lots of the things i like to do I'm just not allowed to do here.
@RamzeTravels
@RamzeTravels 2 ай бұрын
I think it’s overthinking. Rarely investigated or prosecuted. There are a ton of foreigners illegally working businesses here to at seem to get away with it. If you build a shed on your property or a nice bookcase, I doubt the law is coming a looking. Just my observation. Doesn’t mean much. 🤷

@@robscovell5951 even some "volunteers" have run into issues. I suggest she talk to a professional and then possibly speak to the appropriate agency. I was considering posting a Facebook ad looking for people who wanted to practice their English conversational skills and changed my mind because of how strict the rules can be. I just wanted to meet people and develop a larger social circle, I wasn't going to be making any money.

While I agree that the Laissez Faire attitude is a neutralizer for karendom, that also breeds a lack of accountability. If I order a fish and they give me a steak, and I ask for a fish, and they shrug it off, that isn't a great thing in my opinion. Everything else for me with regards to heat, alcohol, loneliness etc. won't be an issue.
