I was in Bangkok in about 2012 and was visiting a popular nightclub in my hotel; feeling pretty fine! Somehow I lost my iPhone when I was ordering my too many drinks! Upon realization, I went to the bar to ask about it and they had it!! I left a generous tip and went to my room to call it a happy ending!!😂

I didn't lose my phone there but had a little man bag to carry money and things around and I was in the Metro station and I had forgotten to zip it back up and a bunch of Thai bills were kind of sticking out and probably would have blown away and somebody stopped me to tell me that it was open. Never felt uncomfortable or unsafe there.

Good solid advice 👍 Another recommendation is not only to have a burner phone but to have a "burner wallet". A cheap wallet with a very small sum of cash (for a meal and refreshments). The real cash is hidden and/or closer to your body. If someone pickpockets you they'll get away the more obvious burner wallet with little to no money to talk about.

Hello, Daz. Love the idea of bringing a cheap 'extra' phone to Thailand. Last visit, I brought too many clothes AND too many devices. I brought my phone, my MacBook Air, and my iPad. It was a pain having to take them all out for airport security in four different airports. Two small phones would make traveling much easier. Thanks for the video!

Solid advice! Its a good idea not to carry your primary phone with you when you travel anywhere, especially when out drinking at night. Don't carry your bank cards too, only amount of cash you are willing to spend on the night.

good tips Daz, couple of points, when you top up your phone, do it little and often because each top-up extends the validity of the sim card, so six 50TB top-ups will extend the life by six months whereas one top-up of 300TB will only give you one month when you come to Thailand you should bring a short extension lead with four or five sockets and if possible surge protection, this means you only need to buy one adaptor and you can use all your UK chargers at the same time👍👍👍

I bought a new Samsung A2 many years ago from Tukcom Pattaya for 2750 baht (less than $100 Aud) including a wallet case. Used it for many years & never had to worry about getting drunk & losing it or someone stealing or wanting to steal it. Works for all the apps & can still call friends by phone or line. As for where not to stay - I stayed on Soi 6 3xtimes in the old days. Not much sleep during those stays where some bars still had thumping music & a heap of drunks at dawn. Cheers

Another great video. Regarding phones. Fairly common for people to leave their phone in the back of a taxi. Happened to a mate of mine. The driver in Bangkok reported the phone and handed it in. But because my mate hadn't used the phone number to make any calls and didn't know the sim phone number, he couldn't tell BOLT via their contact email which phone was his. A lot of banking apps will require a sms confirmation. That will be sent to your normal phone number, so keep your phone and normal sim card separate. You'll also need your passport at the 7/11. True story. I left my phone at the wanker gym i train at in Australia. Came back in a rush. Receptionist asked me what was wrong? I said I'd forgotten my phone. She came with me to help locate it. When i picked it up. A Samsung Android. She said. "Oh. No one's going to steal that" Thanks for that.

Hey Daz, love these types of videos and information, thank you very much 🙂 One point I would like to raise though about expensive mobile phones and taking a burner phone instead did not really make a lot of sense to us.... yes my family were also watching. We felt that you can get drunk anywhere (not just Thailand) and lose your mobile phone. Additionally spam and malicious SMS and emails can also happen anywhere. You have a nice Samsung Galaxy S23, do you lock it up before going out and take a burner phone instead? So we understood your point but .... maybe a bit extreme?

Airbnb is my first choice. I admit there were sometimes small problems, but in the end they were all sorted out to my satisfaction. Experience helps. This time I booked a 38 sqm condo on the 30th floor of the Centric Sea Tower for the price of a cheap 2 star hotel (US$20/night), very stylish, equipped with a complete kitchen, washing machine, gym, sauna, pools including electricity and water. The privacy alone is unaffordable for me compared to other types of accommodation.

If you take a night companion with you , does she have to leave her ID card also in reception the same as in any hotel?? if is like that yeah fine but if not is easier for her to steal from you when you come back drunk at night and you fall sleep. That is why I like Hotels she has to leave hr ID and before hotel give it back , they call me room to see if everything is alright

Actually I just bought a Umidigi Android phone 100 bucks not bad at all. 4gb Ram, 128 GB storage great screen resolution. It's for backup. I also suggest that individuals get very good cases, a drop can happen and will happen eventually military grade is the best

Check the baht-bus routes and plan your hotel near such a route , unless you want to rent a bike and take the many risks.

Thanks. I had not heard of Traveloka before. Mainly good advice, but I won't be taking it in relation to having a cheap Thailand 'phone. I have a faily expensive 'phone (partly) so that I have a good quality camera, and I like to have that with me all the time. Also, the Line app functions on only one device. I just have to be extra careful about having the 'phone pick-pocketed - but that applies equally to here in London.

Cannot believe opening an SMS message allows someone to know your 2 stage banking verification codes, gmail password, etc.... MAYBE if there is an attachment in the SMS and you open that. Anyways, good advice, never carry your expensive phone out at night if you are going to get your drink on! 555

I’m here now! Second time but different area of Pattaya. It’s amazing! I always bring to much cloths. Laundry every where. Also only exchange very little $ at airport. Do bigger money by ur hotel. If you opened a Bangkok acc & banking app on your phone you need the number you signed up on to recieve sms for certain functions. When you go home can put phone in airplane mode & just top up number until you return to Thailand otherwise you need to visit branch to register new number each time if you get new SIM & Thai number.

Lots of actionable advice to be sure! Can anybody recommend a cheap unlocked phone one can easily buy at Amazon to use in Thailand that is powerful enough to handle apps and whatnot? I think I will try this out for my next trip as I cannot imagine the nightmare of losing my primary phone!!! Also, I could not make out which travel app Daz recommends to install can anybody clue me in? The other apps I am already aware of and use. Regarding picking a hotel or room to stay, my advice is *IF* you are going the cheap route just start with booking a few days and see how noisy it is or how good (or lousy) amenities are. If you can tell on day 1 that it is not going to work out then just spend a day exploring other hotels to find a better place. Or if you do book hotel on a busy main road just ask for a quiet room on high floor and hopefully the management will see that note and do so. Or sometimes you can request a different room if the one you get is too noisy.

Just curious if it should be a cheap 5G phone or if 4G is still effective? Thanks so much and lots of great tips. Also, carry a drop wallet or a fake wallet with a little cash and some fake cards in it in case you're out late and some street thugs try to rob you. You can open the wallet for them and show them what's inside with some disposable USD or your local currency and throw it on the ground and walk away quickly. It will distract them long enough to get away. Thanks again!

Agree 100%! Personally i like Daz’s advice of finding 3 freelancers or bar girls that you really like and have a good connection with and rotate them. Personally I’ve only found 1 that I’d want to ever see again, the rest were terrible. The ultimate test is if you can find one that is willing to meet up with you and hang out for no money. Those are very rare but it happens.

I only have my Samsung Galaxy. I'm not a big drinker and make sure it (and my passport and cash) is in the hotel room safety box when company is coming to my room. I've been very careful but after watching Daz's video I wonder if I've also been a bit lucky. I will think about getting a cheap Samsung on eBay for my next trip. I use ThaiFriendly, Grab (for food) and Line, of course. I walk everywhere and take the Baht bus. Never needed to order a car in Pattaya. I know Bolt is like Didi/Uber. But doesn't Grab allow you to order cars too? Has anyone used Grab for a ride, or would I need to use Bolt? I almost tried to use Grab on my last trip to get to the airport bus station in Jomtien (it looked easy -- just like ordering food), but in the end, decided to take the Baht bus.

I used grab many times for transportation in Bangkok Pattaya and hua Hin. It is better than using a taxi although sometimes it is a taxi but the price is agreed upon ahead of time. With grab you have to put a photo in the app. A friend who lives in Pattaya didn't like that so he uses bolt. I have both apps on the phone but only used grab. But the longer I was in Thailand the more I walked and the more I use public transportation like the train.

I have to doubt the guy was using a Galaxy S23 unless he purchased it in SE Asia. Starting in 2023 or the S23, all Samsung phones now have region locks that are not removable so a foreign SIM will not work in them, just another way for Samsung to get more money out of you. Here in the US S23 will work in the US, Canada and Mexico but no other countries. Internet is loaded with guys from the UK coming to the US and they won't work even when they are carrier unlocked. Just am FYI for anyone considering buying one unlocked and expecting it to work!

I wish you would make a video or series of videos on the best guest houses. Many have newly renovated rooms and sit on top of a good bar/restaurant. LK Metro have many. Every area seems to have some. Another advantage is your balcony looks over a street. You can flag down the girls without leaving your room. The downside is many of these rooms are old and need help.

I use an old Samsung restored to factory settings so no personal info on it. I keep the same SIM and 30 day top up costs 700 Bhat instead of 999 with unlimited data. My I phone then connects to it via hotspot tethering…

If you forget to buy a cheap phone make sure you get the sim at the airport on arrival, don't go around pattaya buying sims from dodgy street sellers pay a few bhat more on arrival it will be better in the long run. If you can use exchanged cash don't be login into your online banking either keep the digital transactions and even card transactions to a bare minimum. Thanks for the video daz.

I bought mine from an old lady who runs the bus station in Bangkok for the bus to Hua Hin. I wanted to see if my Google fi worked in Thailand and it did in many places but not all. As you say get it in the airport that's where I'll get mine the next time.

Is the sea around Pattaya any good for swimming in terms of cleanliness of the water, geleefish and where is more over also a nice beach ambiance like umbrellas, chairs, cafes etc? Somewhere near the centre, south or north? Thank you

As far as displays of wealth go, If you are staying at the best resorts, keeping respectable company, respectable hours and behaving in a manner that is it expected of the 'Hi So' class, then not even the lowest beggar or street thug would dare look at you side ways. However, if you are surrendering yourself to the underbelly of Thai society by fraternising with working girls and pimps, drinking alcohol at all hours and staying in red light areas, do not expect the same respect. Common sense.

The problem with using the Line app is that it’s linked to your Thailand sim phone number so once you return home and re-install your regular SIM card i don’t think it will function. Can anyone confirm this?

My AIS e-sim is turned off when I get back home to the UK, Line app works fine, only UK sim active on the phone. I assume the App just requires data/internet once installed.

Got to say one thing, despite all the stories and precautions advised. Thailand is a really safe and nice place, it is nowere close to what can happen to you in the west. So in general just being reasonably cautious is enough. Don't get too drunk, don't fall for obvious scams and don't fall in love. And you will be just fine)

100% this. I was wending my merry way back to the hotel after a *very* fun night at Heaven Above with 10ktb in my wallet. As I strolled down Soi Buakhao I realised just how much I had on me and how paranoid I'd be back in England that someone was going to stab me and rob me. Time must have been about 0230am and I didn't have a care in the world. Reasonable precautions will see you come away just fine.

Be careful using whatsapp on your thai phone though. Somehow the contacts I'd added on the thai one were also on my normal UK phone. Very odd and nearly got me rumbled as to what I'd been upto.

I'm no techie but I believe that, until recently, you could have WhatsApp on only one phone. However, you can now have it on two phones, but one is a "mirror" of the primary one.

@@ausaskar nope not at all. i just wrote that just opening an sms is not enough to get your phone compromised , but if you click the link in that sms is how they get you . and after that i recommended redmi phones especially the ones with snapdragon processors because they are cheap but also really usable phones with good cameras usually from samsung. they are a bit more expensive 150-200 dollar range but with them you wont miss your phone because you actually have all your smarphone needs covered . thats the gist of it just got into more detail about above mentioned but cant be bothered to type it all again
