Just wanted to thank the many viewers and comments that we have received on this video. More than a year ago, we wanted to find a way to thank teachers around the world for their dedication--hence this beautiful video. We are all teachers. We are all students. And by helping one another realize the potential in the other, we realize our own. When I read the comments that you have posted, my heart is filled with immeasurable gratitude. Thank you for sharing our message around the world.

I agree about St. Johns Country Day School. Many teachers there have stayed with me! All of the English Department, the Art Department, Music at Christmastime, Mr. Fisher in Science ( and driving my bus!). University of Maryland - Munich, my German Language Professor, Herr Schmaltzbauer... Thanks to you all.

I attended St. John’s Country Day School and was tutored privately in German by its founder Dr. Heinrich who lived down the street from us off Doctor’s Lake Drive. Mike Craven was my Latin teacher and Rod Fisher taught biology. My 11th and 12th grade English teacher was Edith Cowles who had been a professional editor at some swanky NYC publishing house before retiring to Orange Park. Dr. Homan was the headmaster at the time and although I could never win a student council position like president or vice president, I was always elected student body treasurer and would make lots of money for student activities. One day the French teacher said, “Tyla, you are such an entrepreneur.” I didn’t know at the time what the word meant, but when I found out, I was super excited. That’s exactly what I am. I write books and blogs under my married name now Tyla Gabriel. I created and posted this video originally to thank the amazing teachers that I had at St. John’s Country Day School in the mid-70s.

Teachers are what makes this world amazing. Nobody forgets their favourtie or worst teacher. Those polar opposites mark our path of what we don't or do want to be like. Reminds me of Matilda's teacher (from the movie Matilda).

With work, activities schedule and other circumstances (not to mention TV, phone and PC distractions), the average parent/child interaction is reduced to an absolute minimum, Teachers are the primary educator of children. While accepting your parental role and responsibilities, give teachers the credit they have earned. Most of them really do care, and you should be glad for that.

The most influential teachers in my life have been: Mrs. Bleauvelt (1st-3rd), Mrs. Cantley (7th & 8th), Dr. Padua (private teacher & prof. at Wayne State University), Dr. Shernoff (AMAZING sociology professor at U of M!), Dr. Hymes (U of M), Julia Hertenstien (Northeastern University), Bruce Clark (Northeastern University), & my mother & father (clearly, the most inspiring teachers in my life). I only hope all these teachers see this video & realize they've made a difference in my life!

Beautiful, powerful video. I am sending to my friends who are teachers. And remembering Sister Suzanne, who gave me my love for writing when she handed out huge photos from Life magazine & asked us to write a little story about it... in 2nd grade, no less. And Sister Kinnamon, who always saw the brightness in me. And my algebra teacher who made math feel like solving a detective mystery. Thank you for reminding us what is possible!

Video really motivating for teachers!! they need to be motivated, and more apreciatted otherwise they will not have the ability to motivate children which I think it is their essential job in our 21st century. I have begun with this task in Spain, where teachers feel they are not loved. With such a video, we will try to raise their enthusiam towards the changes our education system needs (emotional education, personal growth resources and technological improvements)

Today's kids spend much more quality time in the classroom than at home. Anyone who claims that parents still hold the primary role as teachers are neither honest nor realistic. How many families spend even daily meal time together? How many parents sit with their kids helping them with home work? Once a child reaches 5th grade, parents are no longer any help, because they never learned the competitive curriculum today's youngsters are saddled with.

No, I hate teachers. I had this one teacher for three years of my life. She was a bully. I found out later that that had caused me depression, ocd, and an overall messed up mind. Of course "oh, they're just trying to help you". Screw that, she wanted me to fail. I can never forgive someone for how she made me feel. I am my own teacher, at least until I find a real one, that doesn't just hand you papers, grade it, then fail you. Actually, thank you, for leading me to feel this way. I made myself a better person out of it.

We shouldn't exagerate the deeds done by the teachers. One should answer the following question frankly: Who is less valuable? Doctors, judges, policemen, firemen, ...? Every profession is valuable. Then why do we exalt ourselves?

Too bad that teachers have to look out at a "sea" of students instead of a more manageable pond or puddle. If class sizes were smaller than 28 we'd have a better chance of meeting each individual's needs. This was a beautiful video, but I fear most people still think that teachers teach because they can't do anything else. Hopefully things like this will open more people's eyes. Thank you!

I doubt that there is a profession on the earth where its practitioners feel appreciated...no farmers, no truck drivers ..no food.... no life. People with good intentions uplift world culture. Teaching is not a perfect profession , free of harm doing, as teacher, John Taylor Gatto points out. People in power have always sought to undermine education and many teachers mindlessly collapse into conformity with their aims. Why are reading rates down 30% since 2004.Who encourages students to use the latest technology before its effects have been identified? And yes.....there are some great teachers out there. cheers Peter
