Free Range Nerd Thanos Quest is equally as important as The Infinity Gauntlet run. It gives you insight into who Thanos is as a character, and almost makes you route for him to succeed. The Infinity Gauntlet shows him unravel recklessly, drunk with power. They compliment each other beautifully.

The Power gem is the most important, unlike the other gems, the power gem works in tandem with the others to further amplifying their powers and allow them to reach their full potential. Damn guardians I was so close.

The reason they don't want to say if Nebula is Thanos' granddaughter or not is because that makes Thanos seem old and not relatable.
@capmar-vell92returns207 жыл бұрын
Wrong, its because Thanos attacked Nebula because he finds offensive that somebody would imply that he, Death's greatest servant, would drop progeny and create life.

Thor is over a thousand years old. maybe much more if we count the cycles of Ragnarok. Wolverine over 100. Why would they want to make Thanos more relatable than two main Marvel heroes? I'm 100% sure it has NOTHING to do with that.

I think in a way that Thanos as a character has been ill-served by being entirely defined by "The Infinity Gauntlet," and in particular by the bizarre misunderstanding of that story as a sort of blockbuster crossover full of superhero pyrotechnics where the Avengers fight a super-powered baddie and take him down. "Gauntlet" was, in typically Starlin fashion, a wonderfully trippy headpiece filled with psychedelic imagery and bizarre reality-warping dreamscapes - and, also typical of Starlin, it dispenses with its big-name superheroes in an almost hilariously brusque fashion, with the omnipotent Thanos bumping off the laughably ineffectual remains of Earth's Mightiest Heroes in increasingly morbid and creative ways, like a little kid pulling the legs off a bug. A-list characters like Captain America, Spider Man, Iron Man, and Wolverine (memorably dispatched by having his bones turned to rubber!) are of far less import to the story than the underrated supernatural heroes like Silver Surfer and Doctor Strange (to say nothing of Adam Warlock), and the whole thing is really a story about what happens when a universe-conquering villain finally conquers the universe, only to realize that even that will never make him happy. "Gauntlet" really is the culmination of Starlin's work on Thanos as a character (he really could have left him retired as a farmer on that planet, and if we never saw him again, it would kind of been perfect), but that's just the end or climax of who Thanos is - it's not the entire story. Marvel, by trotting him out as a rote glowering supervillain for their next chain of blockbusters - and regressing his characterisation in the comics as a petty and brutish cosmic potentate - show how little they understand the character, and how little they understand the old stories they're currently trying to exploit.
@MrTallformyheight7 жыл бұрын
CapMar-Vell92 Returns you cloud make that argument about a lot of the characters in the marvel cinematic universe, but that's a lot of the time the main issue with taking sprawling, decade-long story arcs and compressing them into a 2 hour film. It's the flaw with the entire MCU and why i kind of despise it

Way back when I played World of Warcraft, there was a region on the extra-planar world of Outland called Netherstorm. High on a plateau in the north area of that zone, there was a single Orc farmer that I think about every time I ready Infinity Gauntlet. If I recall correctly, he was in exile as well. I wonder if it was a direct reference. Bought trades since I started watching Back Issues: 9

You guys are awesomeee
@patgeta267810 жыл бұрын
Uh, guys, the Reality Gem manipulates reality. For instance you can turn granite into water, gold into salt, etc. You have the power to change the environment. That's how Thanos turned Wolvie's skeleton into rubber. He changed the part of reality that made adamantium unbreakable into a reality where it's soft and bendy. This is something that the other individual gems can not do. I know this is oversimplifying it, but I hope this helps you understand what the Reality Gem does.
@ryebreadreturn110 жыл бұрын
My point was simply that power and space are part of reality, so the reality gem should be able to do everything the power and space gems can do, making them kind of superfluous. Arguably mind, soul and time are part of reality as well. In fact if you have the reality gem what is to stop you from altering reality so that you have all the gems? It seems the reality gem would be the only gem you ever need. For that matter, couldn't you just alter reality such that half of life in the universe is dead, meaning that Thanos didn't even need the infinity gauntlet to do that, all he needed was the reality gem? And if you can't do that than I'm very confused as to what the boundaries of the reality gem's powers are.
@patgeta267810 жыл бұрын
From what I can understand about how the Gems work, each individual Gem can only alter the facet it has control over to a certain point. The limit of the individual Gem is based on the ability of the person who is in control of it. Now, it has been stated that the Reality Gem is potentially the most powerful gem, but if someone who has no clue what they are doing tries to wield it to it's highest power, it will spin out of control, shifting through alternate realities, and could cause it's user to cease to exist. That's one reason why you would need the other Gems, to keep reality in check with what the user wants reality to be. Let's take the example of destroying half of life in the universe: You have the Reality Gem, but no other. You wish that half of the lives in the universe is to be destroyed. Now, what keeps you from being one of those killed? What if I have the Time Gem and use it to see into the future, giving me the knowledge of what you intend to do? Well, I just go back in time and (hopefully) stop you from ever gaining possession of the Reality Gem in the first place. I know, it's really complex to explain (plus, I don't think Marvel thought about all the "geeks" who would over-analyze the Gems powers), but I'm trying my best to explain what kind of limits you have if you are only in possession of the Reality Gem and why it's not an "end all, be all" type of thing. Hope this makes it a little more clear (BTW, thanks for the reply).
@ryebreadreturn110 жыл бұрын
patgeta2678 Yeah that makes sense. Or at least enough sense for me to give it a pass and move on lol. And yeah I have no doubt Marvel didn't spend a lot of time internally deciding how the Infinity Gems work.

It's fascinating to me thinking about things like Hickman's New Avengers, just how broad his work is. His avengers is super dark, his fantastic four is way less dark, and for me is the definitive version of these characters (besides Mark Waid's) Secret Warriors is basically an action thriller, and goes from dark to fun very quickly.; and his SHIELD is a crazy mindbender. That each feels natural within the same universe is crazy to me.

I have a question, After fighting Thanos most of the heroes are are killed. But after Nebula gains control of the gauntlet, Dr. Strange summons Thor in order to restrain Thanos and silver surfer from fighting each other. Since hanos turned thor into glass and broke him, how is this possible? Do the effects of the gauntlet become undone when they switch users? Please let me know if anyone knows, thanks
