I made a 3.5m pair of cables for the front speakers in my home cinema system over the weekend using Canare 4S11 following this guide. The new cables replaced some relatively cheap bi-amp cables I'd had for several years so I made them up with 4 banana plugs at each end. The difference in sound quality is amazing - it's the closest I've heard to hifi sound from an AV amp and the cables aren't even run in yet. I'll definitely be making up a couple of sets of RCA cables using info from your other guides, so thanks!

I was inspired by your Mogami diy speaker cable video to make my own speaker cables to replace Audioquest Rocket 88 cables. I realized i couldn't afford the Mogami at $5 a ft. and had heard good things about the Canare 4S11. I believe it was only $1.49 a ft. I followed your instructions, and they turned out great. Big sound improvement over the Audioquest cables I paid $350 for. Thanks!

Hey man. I just want to thank you for your valuable advices. I made the Canare version of speaker cables after seeing this video. I am overwhelmed of the improvement. Hands down one of the biggest upgrades i have ever made. I run Focal Aria 948 with them. (Rega Planar+AT VM740ML,REGA MM MK3, Primaluna Prologue Premium Preamp and Ayon Audio 300b with s32b valves). I had QED XT40 till now( i wasnt a "cable believer"). The new cabels really transfomed the sound. I have now more of everything. The sound is really crisp, more revealing with exetremly tight deep low end. It is crazy that a cable swap can do this. Thank you again and i wish you all the good!

@@gavriushka If you decide to do these cables you would need to connect together red & pink and white & off-white wires. Not the way shown in this video. That's wrong way of doing it. Just read Wikipedia what is a Star-Quad cable connection.
@gavriushka4 жыл бұрын
@@IliyaOsnovikov in this case it doesn’t matter, as it’s not an electronic cable. Either of those specific conductors are identical to each other. So it doesn’t matter which ones you put together, as long as one end matches the other. Color is there just for your own reference and so you don’t accidentally reverse polarities on one end vs the other. StarQuad reference in this case means it’s twisted inside in a star pattern, and quad means 4 conductors.
@IliyaOsnovikov4 жыл бұрын
@@gavriushka Why doesn't it matter? The whole idea of the Star-Quad configuration means the connection together of the opposite ends of that "star" pattern in a cable. That creates a symmetry of magnetic fields that helps reducing cable's electromagnetic noise emission and also improves electromagnetic noise rejection. Otherwise the Star-Quad reference is just meaningless. Sure, that configuration is more beneficial for some low level signal cables like microphone cables. But it has some merrits for speaker cables as well.

Your first video inspired me to go on a cable build, I originally had Mogami 3104s that I bought from a company that builds and sells them. I decided to give 4S11s a try instead. The Canares felt a bit more well rounded, bass was more defined, but I did find them to be a little more closed in and lacking that sparkle that the 3104s had. The major drawback with the 3104s, something that you've mentioned is the bass. The bass was real boomy and I found myself going back to the Canares for that reason. I read/heard some interesting information on the mogami 3103s as being more defined in bass but still having the same sonic signature as the 3104s. It didn't make any sense to me since it's the same cable as the 3104s just 50% less of it. Sure enough, using the same terminations as the Canares, I ran them with my system and the bass boominess was gone. The bass and overall presentation was like the Canares but more extended - it seemed like a sweet spot between the 4S11s and 3104s. I would encourage you to try them out, you might be surprised by the result.

@@luislunacortez1929 The 4S11s may be a good fit for your B&Ws, I had a pair prior to going with dynaudio excite x18s. I do regret not trying out the 4S11s with the B&Ws while I had them as the speakers to my ears had fatiguing/bright moments when paired with the 3104s. The x18s are quite neutral but I did find that the 4S11s took away the sparkle and made the presentation sound a bit narrow and dull. After struggling to tame brightness with the B&Ws I didn't expect to missing the top end extension, but fortunately with the x18s and 3103s I'm getting the best of both worlds. Good luck!

Congrats on another great video. Just wondering why no one has mentioned the Canare 4S11 and it’s much better PE insulation around the conductors themselves (which add to a better sound) with PVC as the outer jacket. The Mogami cables have PVC as insulation on the wire and also the outer jacket which is a lower grade speaker cable for that matter. It’s all about the insulation around the speaker, conductors themselves.

Hello, the Canare 4S11 on the video is a quad star cable construction if I understand correctly. When making the cable, why did you connect adjacent wires, i.e. red and white for one pole, instead of connecting red and light red for the + pole and white and light white for the minus pole? Isn't that the wrong connection for the quad star cable construction? With the connection 1-3 and 2-4, the property of the EMI /RF protection construction and the advantage of the quad star construction is not lost if I understand correctly. Can you explain to me if I made a mistake somewhere or if misunderstood cable manufacturer ? I can confirm that on my system the quad star connection 1-3 and 2-4 sounds totally different (dynamic, spacious, richer) than the 1-2 and 3-4 connections. Thank you

Yes, the combination of 1-2 and 3-4 is somehow calmer, star quad 1-3, 2-4 is dynamic and powerful, wider space, and bi wiring is some kind direct. Therefore, different connections give different capacitance according to the manufacturer's website. It is NOT possible to get the same sound in every connection.. Also, if the cables are not connected in a star quad scheme, then the EMI / RF protection does not work if that means the same to you. Either way for some reason you don't hear the difference or I have a problem in my system that causes the sound to change. My speakers are Canton ERGO 695DC 2x300W at 4ohm. and Primare I35 Prisma. Do you have any advice? @@Tharbamar

What do you mean by speaker cable not burn in yet? Is there any difference in sound whether a cable has been burned in or not?
@Tharbamar4 жыл бұрын
It will be a bit more clearer after burn in.

Do you need to solder two cores together before you put them in banana plugs? Does oxidation may affect sound quality?
@Tharbamar2 жыл бұрын
No because I sealed it.

Hi, do you have a sample clip using canare vs mogami with same track?

sorry for noob question.. if i dont screw back the banana plug covers (i.e. closed screw exposed like in this video, but without the shrink wrap) will it conduct electricity and can it be an electric hazard? i feel that when i put the covers the sound is abit muffled, maybe my imagination, maybe the wire is slightly touching the covers, idk... i prefer to leave them uncovered.
@Tharbamar3 жыл бұрын
It’ll be fine If they are not touching when amp is active.

@@Tharbamar "they" as in black and red plug? if i touch the plug while amp is on, will i get zapped? :D

Thanks. Currently building my own with your step by step explanation. Question: why did you put the white-red + pink-clear, and not red-pink, white clear? Any specific reason?
@Tharbamar2 жыл бұрын
I just like to use it that way but there won’t be different in sound either way.

hello i am watching your videos with your liking i need your speaker wiring advice Are soft balanced musical vocals suitable for canere 4s11 for clear clean presentation or would you recommend another cable stay healthy
@marcg.7850 Жыл бұрын
i don't get it. He twists a red and white together, so how do you identify that exact par at the other end? Why not combine whites together as well as the reds? You'd have to do that if making a bi-wire set, no?
@Tharbamar Жыл бұрын
Actually semi transparent, white, pinkish red and red, it won’t be mistaken but you can pair them as you wish.

Hi. Which wires of the cable should be bi-wired together?
@Tharbamar Жыл бұрын
Any of them as long you connect same wires on both sides.

What wire would you use to make your own bi-wire speaker cable?

I would use Canare 4S11 or Mogami W3145.

Sir, do you feel the alligator teeth type pins you’ve used here would offer a noticibly better sound than spades and would it be wise to use the same Canare cable to build or buy RCA interconnects? Thank you very much
@Tharbamar2 жыл бұрын
BFA type banana plugs are very good with many type of components, spades are ok they tend to get loose with weak terminals, sound quality is no difference in type of connection, as long as you use pure copper of gold plated copper plugs, thanks

What is best ? Single wire og biwire ? I use my Canare 4S11 as biwire direct in therminals on my Yamaha AS590 amp and B&W 683 speakers. But is single wire better ?
