Recording of the Thargoid reaction to having meta-alloys. Really importantly, the noise made by the Thargoid is different, and it's behaviour.

That's actually unrelated to having meta-alloys on board... at the time of recording, if you had any cargo "of interest" the interceptor will maintain a distance of 200m while it waits for you to drop it. Meanwhile, the range you need to be within for the interceptor to give a warning and deploy thargons is 500m. So basically, the interceptor waits for you to drop the meta alloys at 200m. When that waiting times out, it reverts to standard behaviours... but since you're already within 500m, it responds defensively. In the current game, it doesn't maintain that 200m distance anymore, and so if you stay outside 500m, when it loses interest it doesn't respond defensively. There's been a surprising amount of interest in these videos recently, so I should do an updated set (especially with new graphics engine in Odyssey.

I love how it legitimately seems to shake in fear and keep a steady distance from you, while maintainting close contact to presumably establish dominance or threat. It's worth mentioning that the sound it makes is a touch higher pitched and more humanly fearful than the sound it makes normally. (The sound at 0:39) but that could be due to "interesting cargo" as OP mentioned, and instead it's asking you to drop it so it can see what you're carrying. God I fucking love thargoids. Shame that they've been in the game for years now and are still just enigmatic space dwelling late game boss enemies.

If you dump cargo they’ll scoop the meta-alloys up, even call in friends if there’s enough of it. Like feeding a school of koi fish.

newer player here: what's the difference made by you having meta-alloy's in your cargohold?
@ashan_channel2 жыл бұрын
In short, after scanning you the following happens No cargo of significance: Thargoid moves away straight away. Won't scoop any dropped items Meta Alloys: (Happy?) noise, waits 20s for you to drop them, moves away peacefully regardless of what you do. Scoops them if you drop them. Thargoid Items: (Upset?) noise, waits 20s for you to drop them, attacks you if you don't, scoops them if you drop them Guardian Items: (Angry?) noise and red colouration, waits 20s for you to drop them, attacks you if you don't, destroys them if you drop them Humanoid cargo (e.g escape pods, slaves etc): Like if you had no cargo of significance, but will scoop them up.

@@ashan_channel Can you befriend thargoids if you deliver a huge amount of meta alloys? Like idk... 128 meta alloys?
@snowylynx362 жыл бұрын
@@alexandru6747 That would be cool. Become a trusted outsider or something. Allowing you access to thargoid modules and perhaps even modified versions of their scout or interceptor ships. Would make for an amazing expansion to allow the Thargoids to be a faction you can side with. Would lead to interesting player interactions like the Anti Xeno Initiative players running into player controlled interceptors and battling it out.

It’s not in your video. By, I noticed they spin, like a bee dance. I was wondering about there reaction also.
@ashan_channel6 жыл бұрын
This video was made prior to the update that caused Thargoids to do the spinning thing. I'm fairly confident it's just an introduced bug, as they'll always do it if there's "Cargo of interest" on board your ship, Guardian, Meta-Alloys, or Thargoid items. See this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bHqrlIara715jLs
@briefnotion6 жыл бұрын
ashan I really don’t think it is a bug. I think it’s something no one has figured out. They are definitely looking into my inventory, otherwise the scan would just be theatrical, and they would just behave the same. Also, I noticed the spin is on the same galactic plane, no matter what system I’m in. I’ll upload a vid when I get the chance.
@ashan_channel6 жыл бұрын
Oh no doubt they're scanning your cargo, it's just the spinning I think is a bug. I made a longer post about it here: forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/380504-Alien-archaeology-and-other-mysteries-Breaking-News-Theories-and-Tinfoil-Hattery?p=6875207&viewfull=1#post6875207

Just the Thargons. They get released due to proximity of the Thargoid, after the time for me to drop the meta alloys runs out.

Yup. It's basically going "back off". They don't maintain the distance anymore, so if they lose interest and you're out of range, they won't release.

Is there any lore explaining this? If so someone tell me. I’ve never seen this before
@ashan_channel2 жыл бұрын
Sort of, though nothing definitive. If you do the Guardian Codex missions, you can get a bunch of lore about it (since the Guardians went to war with them way back when). Short version; Meta Alloys come from Barnacles. Barnacles are seeded by Thargoids on planets, and essentially act as them "marking their territory" Barnacles seem to "leech" materials from the planet, forming the "spires" around them which can be destroyed for raw materials and a Meta Alloy or two. Thargoids are known to "feed/recharge/refuel/something" from Barnacles ( e.g kzbin.info/www/bejne/jF7WepSrmZJrrLc ) What's not clear is why they react to meta alloys, but not aggressively. They clearly want them, and will call in friends to collect them ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/sJLEoKKnr62peas ) though they also collect Thargoid items (kzbin.info/www/bejne/hpDYfXZ6icmogMk), which they will attack you for if you don't drop them. But in the case of meta alloys, they won't attack you, even though it's pretty blatant you smashed up a Barnacle to get them. What this all means is anyone's guess.
